Fashion & Finance Friday!

It’s a LOOOOOOONG Weekend!!!!  WHOOOP WHOOOP!!!!!!!!!!

Ever wondered by Monaco’s Charlotte Gasiraghi has been the subject of Gucci’s equestrian ad campaign?  Yes she is an accomplished rider but it actually goes a little deeper.  Gucci loved Grace Kelly (Charlotte’s grandmother), the Italian design house created the Flora scarf for her.  The Gucci Museo in Florence offers a fascinating review of the fashion house’s archives, and the Flora scarf is one collection not to miss.

gucci

reversecommuter has visited the Gucci Museo in Florence a few times – a friend of mine suggested it was a return to the Mother Ship – loved that!

Target has to find some new hoops to jump through.  Wall Street spanked the discount bulk retailer and sent their shares down 2% after Target released it’s first quarter numbers.  Analysts want Target to get back to what Target did best – bringing in customers.  Wall Street does not believe in the designer collaborations, and reversecommuter is whole heartedly in agreement!  Fast Fashion is never the answer.  Focus on inexpensive paper towels and cleaning supplies and leave fashion to the experts please!

psme

Proenza Schouler had a Target collection when they were starting out and wanted to maximize on the marketing exposure Target would offer.  When Jack & Lazaro visited Boston in 2013, they were the first to recognize they would probably not do something like that again and were not particularly proud of the product.

Enjoy the loooooong weekend – that means put on something pretty and pop the champs!

Happy Dance All Around, it’s Friday!

NYC was THE fashion hotspot this past week.  FLOTUS opened the Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5th.  A ridiculously impressive list of attendees including Alber Elbez, Marc Jacobs, Andre Leon Talley, Ralph Lauren,  Proenza Schouler, Donatella Versace, Alexander Wang were on hand to watch the most powerful bob in the fashion world open her namesake Costume Center.

The Met Ball was held on May 5th, 2014 and this year the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute was “White tie & tails” to celebrate the work of Charles James – who’s work is coincidentally being profiled at the MET, and is divine!

reversecommuter’s favorite dresses included Donatella Versace, all the Stella McCartney pink girls and Victoria Beckham in her own stunning white design.

"Charles James: Beyond Fashion" Costume Institute Gala - Arrivals

How much does a fundraiser filled with A-listers actually raise?  Considering the 2014 Met Ball entrance was a modest (!!) $25,000 ticket,  it is a safe bet that this will be a banner year for the Costume Institute’s coffers!  Fair estimates of $12 Million are the buzz on the street.

victoria-beckham-met-ball

Speaking of the gorgeous classic look of Victoria Beckham, the tally on her Met Ball outfit (which apparently was on the low side of the crowd) was a mere $2.5 MILLION – and keep in mind she designed her own dress, so one can assume a slight discount on the retail price of $4718, which you can purchase online in the fall.

In celebration of a fabulously glamourous week of MET life (lol), pour some champs and enjoy in a gown…while saluting your mother /and or yourself if you are a mother – loose interpretation allowed!  :)

Happy Weekend!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Hot Diggity it is finally here!!!!  Happy Friday!!

Fashion reporters make news too.  Sartorialist favorite Bruce Pask for instance, (nope, he isn’t just some impeccably dressed dude who happens to always get snapped!).

imgres-5

Pask, formerly the men’s fashion director for the New York Times, has joined Bergdorf Goodman as the most magical retailer in the universe’s men’s fashion director.  CONGRATS!

imgres-6

And not to leave out the ladies, The New York Times has scooped Vanessa Friedman, ultra classy fashion editor of the Financial Times, as fashion director and chief fashion critic.  Vanessa will be replacing UBER fashion journalism institution Suzy Menkes, who announced she was leaving the NYTimes last month.

images-1As if the crazy schedule of the international Fashion Weeks wasn’t enough of a whirlwind, now it continues in the print!

CFDA announced it’s nominees for this year’s Designer of the Year awards in NYC March 11th, at a DVF hosted bash.

Accessory Designer of the Year is a PHENOMENAL KNOCK DOWN DRAG OUT between The Row, Proenza Schouler and Alexander Wang.

Unknown-2

This year’s host is the eccentrically moustached John Waters, and the magnificent man of all this sexy, Tom Ford, will be honored for Lifetime Achievement.  CFDA what a powerfully packed event June 2nd promises to be!!!!

Pop the champs, throw a strawberry in the flute and enjoy your fancy self!

O.W.O.

O.W.O = One Weekend Outfit.

SE2

Went into Boston’s South End yesterday for a little promenade, lattes and a red velvet cupcake for the little dude (big siblings out at various play dates).

SE3

The THAW has officially begun, which in Boston means the snow begins to melt and the salt is still inches deep on the streets – do not wear the good boots out!

SEFX

Now that winter is on the way out, reversecommuter is getting all reved up about Spring Collections and a big ol’ dose of retail therapy!!  Jonathan Simkhai’s quilted pony hair bomber from Fall ’13 reminded me of his incredible Spring Collection.  There really is no simple explanation of how reversecommuter’s mind works!  :)

SE6

Bought an awesome new cookbook on my walk – have to share as it is meatless Monday, and this cookbook is vegetarian deliciousness!  Click here to get it!

SE5

Speaking of vegetarian…Don’t forget to like reversecommuter’s FaceBook page to be entered into the KALE sweatshirt giveaway – click this blue phrase for all the details  - contest over tomorrow!

Everybody do The Happy Dance!  It’s finally Friday!!

The CFDA offers it’s winning contestants mentoring as part of the package.  NYC’s Public School won this year, and they are now going to be guided by the President of Alexander Wang (who by the way, is not actually Alexander Wang, but rather Rodrigo Bazan).  This year’s runners up are Marc Alarv and Juan Carolos Obando.  Marc is going to be mentored by Tomas Maier (OHEMGEEEE) and Juan Carolos will received industry guidance from the CEO of Proenza Schouler.

reversecommuter thinks that in this instance coming in second wasn’t so bad!  :)

Travel is a great fashion influencer.  Whenever reversecommuter travels, a new look is discovered.  Recently in Miami (click here for more on that little bit of sunshine) I noticed a serious love of boots & shorts put together.  It ranged from sequin shorts and a plain tank, jean cutoffs with over the knee suede boots and even khaki shorts with a leather hiking boot.

reversecommuter loves the opportunity to take a look and translate it into my own style – that is what fashion is all about!

Victoria Beckham is a busy designer jetsetting all across the Pond.  Recently in NYC for a whirlwind 2 day visit, looking dynamite in reversecommuter’s all time fave color – navy blue.

article-2537969-1A94ACEF00000578-448_306x719

Victoria recently announced she will be setting up a NYC based office for her label, and will be opening a stand alone boutique for her line in London.  Stating that after building the brand for the past five years, she is now ready to deliver a shop catering to her clients’ tastes and needs.  LOVE!!!

Wishing you a weekend filled with bubbles, fun outings and perhaps even a fab outfit combining shorts & boots!

Chunky Knit Not Monkey

Chunky knits and winter coats don’t really mix well, unless you like feeling like the michelin man.

swtr5

reversecommuter has never fully embraced the Chunky knits because of the bulk issues under a coat, icky-uncomfy!

swtr8

Why not take the layering to the inside?

swtr1

Natural fabrics such as silk and cotton work best against the body to trap body heat.  Grab a long sleeve t-shirt or even silk long underwear on super chilly days.

swtr6

Next bring on the Chunkers!  Slap on a scarf and a pair of gloves and KABOOM!  Instant winter glam without the Chunky Monkey feeling.

swtr4

Here are a couple of gorgeous chunkers I found on net-a-porter (and they are on sale now too!  What Santa wouldn’t appreciate a little break on the wallet?)  Click here to peruse & purchase!

EVERYBODY DANCE NOW – It’s Friday!!!

Pitbull has launched an Amazon.com exclusive fragrance collection for both men and women.  Coco Chanel’s parfumiers should be shaking in their tweed adorn boots…not.

images

Tom Ford hosted the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund dinner on Monday in New York, where Public School won this year’s top honor.  His speech was full of sound bites of advice, interestingly focusing in on the intense pace expected of designers, which was something another design team in the audience, Proenza Schouler, spoke of when reversecommuter attended an event at Boston’s ICA (click here for more).  With the Fall & Spring Collections now preceeded with PRE-Spring & Fall, plus Resort, the CHURN of fashion creativity offers a potential BURN that designers are well aware of.

Unknown-2

Tom also told a fun story about walking on a nudist beach in St. Barth’s and running into Anna Wintour (she fully dressed, he sans).  Tom leaned in for a very fashion-world-acceptable-kiss-kiss-hello, then realized he was buck naked!  Quite possibly my new favorite fashion story!  Not to mention the visual!!!

Unknown-3

Brunello Cucinelli, the undisputable king of CashCash, just released some gorgeous numbers – profits are up 10% this year.  This small luxury goods company, operating in an Umbrian hamlet named Solomeo that he single handedly restored – if you are ever near Solomeo, PLEASE take the time to experience it – magical!

Unknown-1

He has 720 employees, paid above the national rate, offers them 3.50 Euro subsidized gourmet meals with wine (obviously in Italia!) for their 90 minute lunches and during the recession did not lay off anyone.  In short, this company’s leader cares about his employees and his professional reputation.  Hand crafted luxury cashmere products created in Italy, and now that Brunello Cuccinelli is a publicly traded company, his decisions are having an impressive impact for his investors too – even in this economy when most luxury brands are suffering from price conscious customers.

Have a wondrous weekend – put on that cashcash sweater, and become transfixed watching the bubbles in the flute!

Bright Fall Colors

Don’t let the leaves steal your thunder…

add a pop of color to your outfit…

Mother Nature, game on!

reversecommuter is not much of a leaf peeper (more a fan of the palm tree…) but New England sure is pretty this time of year.

Holy Mother of all things LONG Week Related!  Hello Friday!

Google hearts Diane!  Yup, the love affair continues.  First the grand lady the wrap donned the funky GoogleGlass for her Spring 2013 runway show (click the blue for a refresher) and last night Diane chatted live for 40 minutes on #shopthehangout.google.com/+dvf…and it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

diane-von-furstenberg-sergey-brin-dvf-google-glasses

reversecommuter was beyond deliriously happy listening to Diane describe the essence of her designs and what she wants for her clients:

“I don’t want the dress to be remembered, I want the woman to be remembered”

“Buy things that will remain your friends for a long time”

“Be the woman you want to be.  The more you imagine it, the more it will happen” – this advice interestingly enough she gives to her two teenage granddaughters!

“I design simple clothes with details from old fashioned dress making – moulding the body to make it look effortlessly sexy”.

Unknown-1

In addition to watching her chat live with Eva Chen, (editor of Lucky Magazine) and Michelle Phan (of youtube makeup fame), Google+ set up coordinating shopping windows so you could buy the looks as they were presented on your screen – UBER COOL CONCEPT!!!!

Marc Jacobs has left Louis Vuitton.  Some are saddened by the news, but reversecommuter thinks this is EXTREMELY exciting for the boy wonder of American fashion.  Marc Jacobs is gearing up to go public (probably inspired by Michael Kors KAZILLION DOLLAR successes).

PSME

In the words of Proenza Schouler (click here for more Proenza Schouler & reversecommuter), “…at the end of the day Tom Ford and Nicolas Ghesquiere (two of our idols) were just employees and they got fired.”  OUCH!  Better perhaps to be independent fashion designers, and “rock the independent vibe for sure!”

Those boys are prolific!

Happy Weekend – go pop some bubbles and in your highest heels “rock the independent vibe for sure!”

More More More Proenza Schouler!

First Proenza Schouler spoke to a relatively intimate crowd at ICA Boston (as discussed here) then for a few VERY LUCKY individuals it was time for a private reception at Louis Boston.

PS2

By the by, the dress with the back cut out is the runway version and I AM OBSESSED!!!!!!!!

PS1

Once again the Boston goddess of all things fashionable, Debi Greenberg (owner of Louis Boston and patron saint / fairy godmother to incredible young designers such as Proenza Schouler, Jason Wu, Jonathan Simkhai etc – click the blue to read about each), knocked it out of the park & into the milky way!

deb

Let it be said here and now, I absolutely adore this woman and as I said to her at this event, I would MOVE if it weren’t for her because Boston would be severely fashion challenged!

PS3

During the event at the ICA, Jack & Lazaro spoke at length about the exciting developments they have made with textiles, specifically at their mills in Italy, and leather is just one example of this.

Louis Boston’s Proenza Schouler $15,000 leather tweed jacket (literally leather woven into a tweed) just increased it’s value…immeasurably!

wowjkt

Lazaro Hernandez signed it!!!

jkt1Another UBER cool moment came when Lazaro gave up the details on his ink.  Apparently he and Jack have matching tramp stamps behind the ear – some fantastic hung over Sunday morning decision.  Um, how ridiculously adorable anyway??!?!?!

psink

Considering my day didn’t start off particularly well (I got hit in the face with a tennis racket – ouch!) the evening was extra special fantastic and ridiculously fashionable!!!!
