POP goes The Wrap!

DVF is at it again!  It must be truly exhausting being the uber fabulous Diane.

Diane is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the wrap dress, an iconic staple in every smart woman’s wardrobe since the ’70’s, and now a private collection spanning the entire 40 years is on display in L.A.

Imagine designing a piece that is as timeless and important within a woman’s wardrobe now as it was 40 years ago. It is nearly inconceivable to design a piece that your clients need, want and wear every single day for 40 years, without any limitation of age!

DVF held a bi-coastal party this past weekend to celebrate 40 years of the wrap dress.  “This is the first time that I ever honored the wrap dress, and she did so much for me,” said an ebullient Von Furstenberg, wearing a black wrap dress with floor-skimming yellow kimono sleeves. “She made me famous. She paid for all my bills. And tonight we celebrate the wrap dress.”  The ridiculously phenomenal Andy Cohen hosted the event in an appropriately studly manner.

How fabulous is Diane in referring to the wrap dress as “she”.  Adore.    reversecommuter thinks the best attribute of the wrap dress is that there are no buttons nor zippers, and the reason behind this is even better…Diane states that the dress is designed that way so that it doesn’t make any noise when it hits the floor after he takes it off you…no wonder the woman was married to a prince, worshipped by rockstars, painted by artists, obsessed by titans of industry!  (Click here for more)  reversecommuter had the absolute honor of meeting THE DIANE in 2008, and the pulsating energy that emits from this woman is truly wondrous!

DVF simultaneously launched “Pop Wrap” a DVF/Warhol collection, a collaboration of Diane’s wrap dress and Andy’s iconic, briliant silkscreens of flowers and dollar signs.

The silkscreens are applied to the bottom of the wrap and the end product delivers a euphoric time travel directly to the dance floor of Studio 54!

Warhol and Diane were friends in the 70’s and she is the subject of one of his mulit-colored portraits.  Photos of their friendship help define the 70’s, the vibe, the partying, the dancing and the decadence.  “The Journey of a Dress” exhibition has an extensive display of these photos, lining the walls between mannequins wearing Diane’s private collection of wraps, prints and jumpsuits.

In the art world an artist’s impact on society is re-visited at every 10 year anniversary of the artist’s death.   Andy Warhol died in 1987, his art work value skyrocketed in 1997, and it is expected that in 2017 the same will occur.  Maybe reversecommuter just gave you another reason to buy one of those limited edition AMAZING POP Wrap dresses.   Click here to get one!

  1. I love these elegant dresses and Diane is still gorgeous ! Once I’ve been to a exhibition of Andy Warhol in Milan and it was amazing, I like very much his Arte works, interesting and original post ! 🙂

  2. Oh, the fab wrap! It’s shopping festival in Dubai right now (annual BIG sales) and DvF has 30-40% reductions. I really, really want a wrap dress, but the ones I’ve tried tend to be a tad too long:/
