Fashion & Finance Friday!

Last week of January – Done & Done!  Greetings & Salutations FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here it comes….earnings season, and you know how much reversecommuter loves the numbers!

LVMH had a year of flat growth, with an profit increase of only 0.4%.  Don’t be too blue for the house that Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Celine, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, etc etc. built, they still managed to rock 4.7 BILLION in profits!  reversecommuter thinks that Bernard Arnault and Salma Hayek won’t need to adjust the budget too severely!!

But this splat flat is interesting in that it reflects China and European luxury markets slowing considerably.  Suddenly vintage is in (aka nobody is buying anything new!!).

Breach is Bad. First Target, then Neiman Marcus and now Yahoo!  Yahoo announced Jan 30 that some of it’s email accounts had been hacked.  Neiman Marcus is working with federal investigators to provide insight into the 1.1 MILLION credit cards that were hacked over an estimated 3 month time frame.  Target had 40 million customers’ credit and debit card info stolen during the holiday shopping season.

You know those websites that offer a grading of your password?  Maybe it’s time to start paying special attention to creativity!

  1. Entered! 🙂
It will be interesting to see what happens in Toronto when Saks, Nordstrom and Holts are all in a 3 km radius. Is the demand for luxury goods that high here? Time will tell…have a great weekend!

  2. I’m pretty sure at least a few of my online accounts have been hacked. Even with strong passwords there are always hackers smarter and more efficient at stealing information. Maybe it’s time to update them again!

I think brands like LV, Marc Jacobs, etc. will always turn a decent profit. They have such a dedicated customer base. Also, the quality of product is generally very good which in my book is a good enough reason to pay more for something.

    Have a fantastic Friday! 🙂

    • MP I am right there with you – I can justify a luxury good purchase waaaaaay faster and more enthusiastically than a quick cheap disposable piece. Always worth the investment!
As for those pesky hackers, it is so annoying to think that despite our best, most creative, symbol inclusive password creations it is really still just like taking candy from 1.1 MILLION babies every time they hit a major retailer.
      Happy Weekend!!

  3. Oh no! My sister’s hotmail-account just got hacked, so now she’s involuntarily spamming everyone with offers on cheap counterfeit handbags. Hard-to-break passwords is the way to go:)

    • Nasty spam! Hackers make me mad – I don’t like feeling vulnerable, I’m much too trusting a creature for that!
Creativity on the passwords is key…just don’t forget to write it down somewhere! 🙂
