Inspiring NOT Stealing.

When I go get these done…

It’s Essie Tour de Finance.

Anywho, when I find myself stuck at the spa I notice that I actually take the time to see the details in a magazine.  Which leads me to adding to this little pile of ripped bits of inspiration.  Kinda like a hardcopy Pinterest board.

It isn’t stealing if it inspires me right?

ps I find that a decent fake cough almost completely covers up the ripping noise.  Just saying.

Blazers & Blossoms

Spring brings blossoms and blazers.

B1

There is nothing in the world like a good blazer.  It compliments any outfit and hides a multitude of sins!

B2

It is the perfect piece to add to jeans and a t-shirt.  It is the perfect date night piece to wear over a slinky-spaghetti-strapped-this-date-is-promising kind of top.  It is the perfect piece to wear when traveling (not too hot/not too cold).

B3

Classic navy and black basic blazers have some fun company this season.  Brilliant pinks, stripes, florals and metallics.  Click on the pics to go directly to the source!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Benvenuto Friday!!!!!  WHOOP WHOOP WEEKEND!!!!

Oooh La La! Quel dommage!  Luxury brands are being robbed in a tres grand manner!  Chanel, Celine and Dior’s Parisian boutiques have all been victims of robbery this week.  The bandits drove a stolen Audi into the front window of the Chanel boutique and stole approximately 25 bags.  The Dior boutique was robbed in the early hours of Wednesday morning and lost over $100,000 worth of inventory.

Have you played with the PORTER Magazine app yet?  It is dangerously fun!!!!!  Download the net-a-porter app (free) and then in the settings hit the Scan PORTER Magazine option. Then the real fun begins – scan the pages, hit the “concierge” option that pops up and shop your happy little heart out!  layAR technology is powering the interactive print technology and flipping through a magazine is never going to be the same.

This has been keeping reversecommuter quite busy while recovering from the Boston Marathon this week (apparently so much so that I need to charge my phone!!)  Theraputic retail therapy – LOVE!!!

Slap on something pretty, make an effort to feel pretty and believe it all weekend!

Goldilocks and the 3 White Jeans

ah, my ubiquitous search for the perfect white jeans…reversecommuter has been giving these near impossible perfect white jeans considerable thought.  (see how my eyes are shut – serious concentration level!)

white3

First up was Rag & Bone as my love for their jeans is a proven, long lasting denim affair (click here for proof)

Rag & Bone Skinny whites

Rag & Bone Skinny whites

Alas Rag & Bone’s skinny white jeans offered up for Spring 2014 had too much lycra, not enough denim.

MOTHER denim Patchie in mirror mirror

Patchie in mirror mirror

MOTHER denim white jeans are super pretty and reversecommuter LOVES MOTHER!!!!!!!!!! Seriously there are a like a kazillion postings to prove it so click here or here or here).  Unfortunately I cannot find a retailer that sells the patchie in mirror mirror (uh hello, cuter names only found on OPI bottles!!), so alas I will reserve my too-hot-too-cold-just-yummy-oatmeal-metaphor comment for these lovelies!

AG white capri rollups

AG white capri rollups

Never one known for her patience (understatement), reversecommuter bought a pair of AG stilt rollup white jeans that are just right!  As a rule of thumb reversecommuter ALWAYS buys up a size in white jeans because as unattractive as camel toe is, white jean camel toe is just that much more FUGLY!

MULE-ing It Over…

reversecommuter is resting & recovering her tootsies (click here to see why).

In the meantime what else would I be obsessing over…SHOES!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Bring on the LOOOOOONG Choco-Bunny Weekend!

“It’s good to have goals.” – One of reversecommuter’s favorite mantras, and it appears the same can be said for The Gap Inc.  in regards to China.  Gap has 81 stores in China and is planning on adding 30 more shops this year.  Gap Inc. will probably consider introducing additional Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta stores into China in the next 2 years.

Unknown-4

The Gap wants to reach $1BILLION in sales in China by 2017.  How do you say “Khaki’s Everywhere” in Mandarin?

images-1

reversecommuter mini-rant (* DIRECT bi-product of being cooped inside since Sunday with sick stomach flu children – apologies!)

The world’s total clothing spenditure is $1.4 Trillion.  If Gap Inc. hits $1 Billion by 2017, reversecommuter shudders to think how very similar everyone’s outfits will be.  At the risk of ranting (on a Fashion & Finance Friday no less!), fashion is not about looking like everyone else, nor is it about mass producing inexpensive, poor quality clothing – that puts garment workers in developing countries at risk.

King Karl once again proves his regal worthiness.

Unknown-2

Despite the shared opinion of reversecommuter and Karl Lagerfeld (um, how much fun was that sentence to write?!?!?), it seems as though the fashion world’s love of all things workout-y is expanding.  How is it that the suburban masses of yoga pant uniformed housewives are influencing Paris, Milan, New York and London?!?!?!  net-a-porter is rumored to be expanding the website into workout wear, Tory Burch is about to launch her workout line, and Lululemon is about to launch their “&Go” line of everyday clothing.

reversecommuter mini-rant Part II (* DIRECT bi-product of being cooped inside since Sunday with sick stomach flu children – apologies!)

Tory Burch being “influenced” by recognizing a lot of women wear their gym clothes all day makes reversecommuter once again ask “how is she considered a leading designer in fashion?”.  And if designers waive the white flag and surrender their creativity based on the bored masses in their yoga pants and unkept ponytails, this era will be more horrific than the 80’s shoulder pad debacle.

Unknown-3

reversecommuter appreciates gorgeous, stylish workout clothing probably more than most, perfect example is this adidas by Stella McCartney top I just nabbed on net-a-porter.com, but I will be wearing it to work out in, and then I will shower, float around on my endorphin high and change into other clothes!

Easter Weekend is upon us, get ready for happy, giggly children, pastel outfits, chocolate bunnies, egg hunts, family time, sugar highs, and Easter bonnet parades (my absolute favorite Bill Cunningham spread in the New York Times Fashion section of all year!!!!).

Dress up, smile for all you have and add some champs to that glass of o.j. at Easter Brunch!

Fornasetti Focused

reversecommuter has a little bit of a ceramic crush…

images-3

on Fornassetti pieces from Italy!

images

Originally created by Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) in Milan, the Fornasetti house is best known for it’s ceramics, specifically the plates.  Piero’s son, Barnaba has taken over the family business (great news for us) and continues the strict control of the images and creative process.

images-2

The plates and some of the furniture pieces created by Fornasetti have the face – and variations of the face – of Italian opera soprano Lina Cavalieri, after Piero randomly found her picture in a magazine.

Unknown-1
The paper patterns drawn by Piero are still used in creating the hand crafted items in the Milano atelier, and the distribution is an intensely guarded process. When you contact the Fornasetti shop in Milan, they will guide you through the purchasing process and how to avoid fakes which litter the resale market.  Deal with a reputable source to maintain the value and authenticity – designer products don’t deserve fake support!

shopping

The products available today maintain the strict creative process originated by Piero while living in Milan – in fact, you can visit the house and intimately walk amongst the books, drawings and music that inspired the creations via the Fornasetti website – reversecommuter’s fave pic is that of Piero drawing outside, inside a bathtub!

shopping-1

reversecommuter wants to amass a wall’s worth!  And even though the Fornasetti images are created on wallpaper (gorgeousness!!!!!!), I am holding out for the actual ceramic plates!

Needles, Eggs, Roses & Stripes

Day started with a double dose of cortisone shots – big needle for each foot – as a preemptive approach to Monday’s Boston Marathon (psychosomatic healing works for wimps!)…

needlesThen home on doctor’s orders to put my bandaged feet up, just relax and smell the proverbial pre-race roses…

stripeC

Never one to actually sit in one place for more than 5 minutes…my plan was to boil up a bunch of eggs, gather up the banditos and have them sparkle, tie-dye and create some fab Easter eggs…

stripes

Stomach flu has derailed the plans.  Very sick little banditos in the casa.  Nothing but popsicles and apple juice on the horizon.  Poor babies.  Rumor has it the Easter Bunny is shopping overtime online (while resting her feet) to bump up the Easter basket fillings…
