Tennis Love

I literally stopped playing in the middle of a tennis clinic because I couldn’t read the logo on a girl’s cute outfit.

Believe me, I am a genius of discretion but I didn’t recognize the logo and I really needed to know what this fabulous outfit was!

Tennis clothing is a fairly tight family.  There are the behemoths Nike, Adidas, my personal obsession adidas by Stella McCartney and some others such as Lucky in Love, Monreal London, Fila and Chrissy by Tail.

Attention please – there is a new kid in town and she is not messing around!  Yaffa Activewear, founded by Laura Preskin, is an entrepreneurial fashion startup that is delivering tennis gorgeousness, courtside and then off the court.
Influenced by ready to wear fashion, designed by a former fashion executive, Yaffa brings clever additions and unexpected details that absolutely set their clothes apart from the competition.  Blues, greys, brilliant whites and even spf treated pieces that reduce skin exposure to the sun.

Ruching is such a flattering addition to design, especially for the tennis set made up predominantly of women who have had children – there is only so much a daily plank can do, am I right?

Yaffa is available online and in various tennis and country clubs across the USA.  It can also be found in my closet…quite a few pieces actually, as I am a big fan!

Wimby Wear

Wimbledon 2016  just ended this past weekend, and I for one am a little sad.  Tennis is my bad habit.  Not only playing, but specifically watching major tournaments while simultaneously online shopping on my iPad/phone/ laptop for the outfits of the pros.  Naughty naughty naughty reversecommuter.

A highly anticipated late June tennis tournament played on the All England Club grass courts in England since 1877, the fashion image conjured up is stuffy.

reversecommuter is here to correct that bland boring fashion reputation.  Yes, players at Wimbledon do have to wear white.  Not cream nor off white – the Wimbledon official website has laid out the details clearly!

Please note if the players have any color on their tennis whites, it cannot be any larger than a one centimeter trim.  Pretty sure this Monreal London neon fold over skirt (on sale right now) might just be acceptable!

Just to be perfectly clear, that includes warm up jackets and headbands and shoes!  Nike might have to dial down the do-rag swoosh

True story, at the Miami Open 2016 I came uncomfortably close to purchasing one of these – I convinced myself that for sure I could/would rock the do-rag in the burbs.

Note to self – less champagne booth time prior to shopping time at the tennis majors.

Back to Wimby Whites…

Nike’s pleated white “dress” was the talk of London’s grass courts, and not all of it good.  Nike’s Premiere Slam dress was very short, very breezy and very busy moving in ways that didn’t exactly please the tennis players.  Belts were added (not a good look FYI), alterations were made to close the side slits, leggings were worn underneath, and the media went banookies!

Actually other than Canadian Genie Bouchard, not one single player had a positive comment towards the dress.

Naturally reversecommuter fell completely in love with it (blissfully unaware of the brewhaha) and managed to buy it before it completely sold out in both black and white.  Guess not everyone hated it after all!

Fun fact – that’s tennis legend Cliff Drysdale reversecommuter is standing beside, and he even commented on the dress!

Thankfully, Stella McCartney for adidas has many less volatile pieces in her collection  Her gorgeous prime knit white dress is divine!

Monreal London could also contribute to the Wimby white dress with their Finish Line dress

Sadly the red visor and multicolored (fabulous) tennis bag might have to be left in the locker room.

Alo Yoga’s Goddess Bra Top  has the very best back around and could single handedly wake up the English audience.  For post Wimbledon wear, the Goddess comes in a veritable rainbow of happy sexy colors!

Now if you will excuse me I need to charge my iPad/cel phone / laptop for the Olympics – imagine the shopping!

Back to the Future Jacket

Futuristic Metalics are changing outerwear.

Outerwear needs to be warm.  Obviously.  But why not add a little color, texture or shine?

adidas by Stella McCartney has a fun metallic crop jacket that is ridiculously warm and efficient as a wind breaker.  Safe to say my hair speaks to the wind factor.

The fact that it resembles the delorean silver car in Back to the Future is the perfect reason to profile it on Back to the Future Day!

Straight Up

L’Oreal Paris has launched  Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight, a four step product line.  I have straight hair that has magically started to form weird kinky parts and curls that have never ever appeared before.  I wondered if this new line of hair care would unkink the kinks…

reversecommuter was asked to review the line, and that is where the fun started!

Step one – go to SoulCycle and workout like a fiend to get your hair really really really dirty!

ew…stinks and kinks…

Step 2 -Lather Up!  This is my cheeseball “and I’m worth it” pic

IMG_9183

Shampooing, an early morning art form!

The shampoo smells great (as does the entire line) and is not too heavy which is a good trait if you are not into the greasies.

Step 3 – No need to lather-rinse-repeat as there are 4 products to use…just move on to Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Boosting pre-conditioner

This step is new to me but seemed to enhance the conditioner when applied.  Not sure if it is necessary for me as my hair isn’t super curly just annoyingly kinky.

Step 4 – Conditioner

reversecommuter is a conditioner junkie – meaning there are usually two or three different bottles on the go at one time in a Goldilocks kind of approach : not too oily, not too heavy, not too light #pickypickypicky

L’Oreal Paris’ Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Straightening Conditioner smells like a bouquet of lilies, doesn’t feel oily or greasy and is not too heavy on the hair.

Step 5 – Styling Balm

I like the idea of the balm as a protector from the heat, and if it can help to unkink the weird kinks in my hair then this is one step I will be sure not to skip.

All in all I was impressed with the unkinking result Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight delivered, and even more impressed that it kept the kinks away for over 48 hours.
* please note that I did not receive payment just the product *
