Sensational Simkhai at Saks!

Saks Fifth Avenue hosted the ridiculously fabulous Jonathan Simkhai for a day of style, swings and seriously decadent designer wear.

reversecommuter has been consistent in my adoration and appreciation for the design and talent of Jonathan Simkhai

Seriously, take a tour through the past four years of this blog and count the numerous mentions of one of my absolute favorite designers!

Fun story about the white lace top I am wearing – Saks special ordered three of these for the event, and all three were snapped up before 2pm yesterday, in fact we were all trying them on at the same time, three dressing rooms in a row!

Yesterday’s Saks event was tremendous and proves that Jonathan Simkhai is a designer that knows what his clients desire.  Despite his crazy busy schedule, international clientele and mind-boggling success – he danced with Gigi & Kendal for Vogue for Pete’s Sake, he was absolutely in the moment in Boston.

Jonathan was literally running between jam packed dressing rooms yesterday, meeting and greeting his clients as well as offering customized one on one alterations and suggestions.  #fashionswoon!đź’•

He suggested I try this dress on – so obviously I did!

Sadly it was too big but perhaps a revisit may occur if an appropriate event pops up on the calendar – I’m thinking of a gala in June…or maybe this white lace and cotton full length dress which I absolutely covet (despite my goofy face in this pic!).

The clothes are decadent, feminine and yet strong at the same time.  Fancy lace detail paired with chambray denim or cotton that allows the client to interpret the way she wants to wear the piece – flip flops, sandals or Stillettos, casual patio lunch or dreamy date night.  This is the attribute that makes Jonathan Simkhai a favorite designer.  This red dress will be a perfect summer piece and I can pair it with gold flat sandals or a heel.  Dressed up or down, a Simkhai piece makes you walk just that little bit taller & happier!

The more I learn about the man Jonathan Simkhai and his incredibly talented, crazy intelligent team the more I own the validity of my four year & counting style crush.đź’•

Favorite Parisian Drugstore Buys

Trips to Paris do not have to cost a lot of money.  Small pharmacy purchases are the secret, (aka les Petits Objets).

Some of my favorite purchases are made at the pharmacy. And that is a budget friendly store found on many Parisian corners.  There is something so fun about searching through a drugstore that is not a cvs and seems somehow so glamorous, how stereotypically French is that?  As French as a French poodle wearing his Goyard collar!

Marvis toothpaste is a must, especially at half the price that it is in the US.

Klorane hair products are some of my absolute favorites.  Blondes love the camomile line, but there are a multitude of options available.  Mango butter shampoo anyone?  Yummaroo!

Klorane is a natural plant based hair care company, and one of those lines that actually delivers immediate improvement to your hair.  âť¤ that!

Nuxe body oil is pure magic.  I always stock up on it in Paris as half price is better than full – plus it leaves more euros for other purchases.  Nuxe is the only after shower oil that saves me from New England winter dry skin.

Et voila!

Tennis Love

I literally stopped playing in the middle of a tennis clinic because I couldn’t read the logo on a girl’s cute outfit.

Believe me, I am a genius of discretion but I didn’t recognize the logo and I really needed to know what this fabulous outfit was!

Tennis clothing is a fairly tight family.  There are the behemoths Nike, Adidas, my personal obsession adidas by Stella McCartney and some others such as Lucky in Love, Monreal London, Fila and Chrissy by Tail.

Attention please – there is a new kid in town and she is not messing around!  Yaffa Activewear, founded by Laura Preskin, is an entrepreneurial fashion startup that is delivering tennis gorgeousness, courtside and then off the court.
Influenced by ready to wear fashion, designed by a former fashion executive, Yaffa brings clever additions and unexpected details that absolutely set their clothes apart from the competition.  Blues, greys, brilliant whites and even spf treated pieces that reduce skin exposure to the sun.

Ruching is such a flattering addition to design, especially for the tennis set made up predominantly of women who have had children – there is only so much a daily plank can do, am I right?

Yaffa is available online and in various tennis and country clubs across the USA.  It can also be found in my closet…quite a few pieces actually, as I am a big fan!

Shortie

Summer dresses are a strange length this year. Resembling more of a short coverup or a long t-shirt.

At first I thought it was just me, but it is an actual thing.  Goop’s  got about half a dozen for sale in their summer shop.

J Crew’s offering a bunch of short dresses too.  See, it’s a veritable “thing”.

Super short is not a great look for little girls and it most certainly isn’t ideal for their mamas.

Consider how many times you bend down in a typical day!

Simple solution, a great pair of shorts.  They don’t even have to be seen.  Keep them guessing!

Shan Meeting!

Ever met someone you worship?  Someone who has captured your attention for a really long time and has definitely achieved hero like rockstar status?

reversecommuter recently met the Founder and Ceo of Shan Swimwear.  Can you tell in the pic that I am completely geeking out?!

Chantal Levesque is literally my Mick Jagger.  Her swimwear and designs have mesmerized me for over a decade.

I saved up to buy my first Shan bikini (red, kind of James Bond-ie) to take on my honeymoon.  My husband recently bought me a new red Shan bikini and told me it reminded him of the honeymoon one.  #whattheheckisbetterthanthat  #hunkahunkaburninglove

Shan swimwear is that good.  The styles and designs are impactful and beautiful.  Chantal knows what women like to wear, and how it should fit.  “Quality and design are always the most important details of the line”, this is not only Chantelle’s mantra but it also delivered in every collection.

Trust me, I have bought from almost every Shan collection over the past fifteen years!

Chantal has built up the company from the early days when she herself pulled the pigments out of the prints to create the colors for the collection.  “Sometimes it took at least 5 attempts to pull the perfect hue.”  Now she has “a great team in place” and doesn’t need to work around the clock.  But she still overseas the pallet and colors pulled for each collection.

Shan Spring 2017 might just be her very best.  One collection, “Do You think I’m sexy” is sumptuous, luxurious and subtly infused with classical French couture allure.

Moves like Jagger!

Romper Bomper

Heat waves mean getting creative at minimal dressing.  Naked only works in certain circles.

Rompers make it easy to keep cool and look great with clothes on!

What is better than a one piece wonder?  Iro’s georgette playsuit works perfectly well at keeping it cool during the day and then adding a little heat at night with a pair of gladiator sandals and a fun clutch.

Rompers are the equivalent of an adult onesie.  Why should the little ones get all the perks?  James Perse linen playsuit is a perfect example of simplistic pleasure.  And it doesn’t get much better than having it called a “playsuit” – it’s practically a dare to have fun!

For a more budget friendly option Tart’s strapless cotton romper (with a great price of $ 128) represents what just might be the single best piece of clothing you own on a disgustingly sticky hot humid day!

reversecommuter owns Tart’s “textured diamond” print (sadly sold out online) but the gray is absolutely available.

Summer weather is supposed to be sticky and uncomfortably hot but with rompers the biggest dilemma will be which one will you wear first?

Two Piece Too Good

Bikinis.  The two piece wonder of swimsuits.

Simple in design, complicated in embracing.  Too many women give up the bikini after having children.  Too many women give up the bikini after a certain age.  “Pshaw” I say!  Go get yourself a bikini, own it with your sassy self and add an extra minute to your morning plank as bikini incentive!

Swimwear designers are people too, predominantly the female kind.  Shan, one of reversecommuter’s faves is founded and run by Chantal Levesque.  Click here to see previous posts!

Her designs are flattering, the vibrant prints and colors more enticing than a brand new box of crayolas, and Shan provides numerous options for both bikini tops and bottoms.

Triangles, over the should support, pads, high waist, full butt coverage, medium butt coverage, etc.  Chantal understands the Shan customer, and what a  Shan bikini needs to deliver in both cut and style.

MarysiaSwim is a new found love of reversecommuter’s.  Maria Dobrzanska Reeves founded MarysiaSwim based on a love of both surfing and style.

Her trademark scalloped edge bikinis offer a sleek new take on the bikini.  Brilliant colors, hypnotizingly sexy prints and limited collections make purchasing MarysiaSwim pieces an absolute hobby!

The Mott bikini is everything.

DĂ©colletĂ© over-exposure is so over.  Cover up your ĂĽber sensitive skin with this design, and still look beyond fabulous!

The MarysiaSwim bandeau is magical.  Clearly when a swimsuit line is designed by an active mom with exceptional style and taste, the bandeau stays up even when you jump in to save your iPhone, which of course your child wanted to see if it could swim.  It can’t by the way.

SKIN SLURP!

Being chosen to review luxury products in the wide world of blogging is a lovely compliment.

Receiving a box of products you already use, and pay for without hesitation, is like Christmas arriving in Spring!

SK-II is a skin care product line that’s main ingredient is sake, specifically Pitera.

The youthful hands of aged sake brewers were the trigger for the SK-II scientists, something in the sake was responsible.

sake

Seriously, sake.  Needless to say it was not a hard sell to lure in reversecommuter.  KONNICHIWA! (welcome!)

The SK-II facial treatment essence is a crucial part of my daily skin care.  Easy to pat on right out of the shower, it smells yummy and moisturizes without ever feeling heavy.  It’s as moisturizing as slurping coconut water or splashing in the ocean!

After I get dressed – sometimes the process of finding something in the closet of nothing-to-wear can take a loooooong time – yet my skin is still dewy and ready for a moisturizer to seal all that in for the day.  Truly, DEWY is my ultimate goal – I live in New England for pete’s sake!   Sake not Sake (punny right?!)

In a world of multiple step processes for everything we do from hair, skin, even multiple layers of clothing, a one step wonder is a welcome addition.  SK-II, “Arigatou Gozaimasu!” (thank you very much!)
