Plane Jane

What do you wear to travel?  Airlines have exorcised the glamor right out of plane travel.

The onus is on each and everyone of us is to be prepared for any potential temperature, seating arrangement or delay.

Full Disclosure I am sitting on the tarmac delayed while I write this…

Slides are the first absolute must every air traveler should own.

Easy on and off when going through security and stylishly cute enough to keep you happy even when your feet are swelling.  Don’t try to deny it, it happens to all of us!

Next up is a good blazer.  Flying from one climate to another can be challenging, and there is not always a need to bring a big bulky jacket.  A blazer can be layered,  hoodies are HOT right now, so why not invest in a Vestments piece to go with the blazer?

Once you land somewhere warm, the blazer goes perfectly with a tank or t-shirt.

Next on the list, a carry on suitcase.  Seriously.  Yes, just one bag.

Never again will your eyes well up with tears as the luggage belt circles around & around, empty without your bag.  Don’t check it, bring it on the plane with you.  If the editors of British Vogue can do it during fashion weeks, then so too can we!  Rimowa offers colorful, hard case carrying suitcases that allow a lot inside.

Finally, an  exaggerated sized cashmere scarf.  Planes get cold and passengers get sleepy.  Why not pack something like Alexander McQueen’s scarf, that will make you feel like a princess despite the stranger snoring loudly right beside you?  It will also double nicely as a wrap in the evening wherever you are traveling to.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to run to my connecting gate!

Favorite Parisian Drugstore Buys

Trips to Paris do not have to cost a lot of money.  Small pharmacy purchases are the secret, (aka les Petits Objets).

Some of my favorite purchases are made at the pharmacy. And that is a budget friendly store found on many Parisian corners.  There is something so fun about searching through a drugstore that is not a cvs and seems somehow so glamorous, how stereotypically French is that?  As French as a French poodle wearing his Goyard collar!

Marvis toothpaste is a must, especially at half the price that it is in the US.

Klorane hair products are some of my absolute favorites.  Blondes love the camomile line, but there are a multitude of options available.  Mango butter shampoo anyone?  Yummaroo!

Klorane is a natural plant based hair care company, and one of those lines that actually delivers immediate improvement to your hair.  ❤ that!

Nuxe body oil is pure magic.  I always stock up on it in Paris as half price is better than full – plus it leaves more euros for other purchases.  Nuxe is the only after shower oil that saves me from New England winter dry skin.

Et voila!

Sweater Weather

In Boston that is pronounced “Sweatah Weathah”.

Some of reversecommuter’s favorite sweaters for Fall 2016 are surprisingly reasonably priced!  #yay

Autumn Cashmere is a brand that consistently delivers gorgeous Cashmere styles and colors with a user friendly price point.

This boyfriend cut Cashmere olive green turtleneck has holes delicately peppered throughout.  I cannot tell you how many Fall soccer games this distressed sweater has been worn too – it is a no brainer addition to the wardrobe!

Fair Isle patterns are all over the place for Fall 2016.  Chloe offers a “fleece-ish” style pull over for a cool $1300 at Kirna Zabete.  m

Alternatively J. Crew has a collection Fair Isle sweater currently on sale for $89 (plus an additional 30% off with the top secret code “SHOPNOW”).

Cut out style sweaters seem like the ultimate oxymoron (wearing holes in the cold), but really with enough red wineand a roaring fireplace, the extra “va-voom” style factor will seem like a brilliant idea.

reversecommuter is loving Yigal Azrouel’s cable knit cut out winter white sweater from his current collection.  Pair it with wide leg frayed jeans or leather pants or a great pencil skirt.

Iro’s cutout cream sweater is simply begging for a distressed pair of jeans and a biker boot for a simple statement of cozy contentment.

Bell sleeves are everything for transitioning from day to night with one fantastic statement piece.  Elizabeth and James has a ribbed bell sleeve piece of drama for a user friendly price.  LOVE that!

So no need to panic when you read that chilly forecast, get excited…about which sweater you will wear!

Warm Cold Shoulders

Fall is here.  The leaves are changing and the leaf peepers are peeping.

The temperature did not get the memo.  It is sunny and hitting 70 daily.

Grab those open shoulder tops and sweaters, pronto!  How about a budget loving $54 option, thank you Nordstrom.

Gotta love when Mother Nature follows fashion trends and delivers weather that works it!

Romper Bomper

Heat waves mean getting creative at minimal dressing.  Naked only works in certain circles.

Rompers make it easy to keep cool and look great with clothes on!

What is better than a one piece wonder?  Iro’s georgette playsuit works perfectly well at keeping it cool during the day and then adding a little heat at night with a pair of gladiator sandals and a fun clutch.

Rompers are the equivalent of an adult onesie.  Why should the little ones get all the perks?  James Perse linen playsuit is a perfect example of simplistic pleasure.  And it doesn’t get much better than having it called a “playsuit” – it’s practically a dare to have fun!

For a more budget friendly option Tart’s strapless cotton romper (with a great price of $ 128) represents what just might be the single best piece of clothing you own on a disgustingly sticky hot humid day!

reversecommuter owns Tart’s “textured diamond” print (sadly sold out online) but the gray is absolutely available.

Summer weather is supposed to be sticky and uncomfortably hot but with rompers the biggest dilemma will be which one will you wear first?

Geek Chic

Next time reversecommuter considers getting bangs someone please slap me hard to remind me of the really fun growing out phase that I am currently enjoying.

IMG_8601

Straight hair people have only just a few hair style choices.  Long or short.  Bangs or no bangs.   That is it.  Four possible outcomes.  Little wonder in the dark days of January 2015 I decided to throw caution to the Snowmageddon surroundings and go for bangs.

Unknown-2

I blame Brigitte Bardot.  Her fringe always look beach-wavy-just got-out-of-a-busy- steamy-rumpled-up-bed gorgeous kind of bangs.   Even Leandra Medine of Manrepeller fashion fame & fortune crumbled and got banged.

Unknown

So I did what any self respecting bang-growing-out fashion obsessed type would do…I bobby binned those near blinding shaggy bits right out of sight.  Yup, a bobby pin.  Hence the nod to Geek Chic.

It works so don’t judge. When was the last time you solved a MAHJOR hair problem with something that costs 0.004?
