Caffeine with Style!

The Fall season in New England reminds me of the importance of caffeine.  The weather is cooler and the mornings are a little darker a little longer.  There is a prescription to combat that and it’s written by Dr. Smood!

reversecommuter recently discovered Dr. Smood in Wynwood, Miami.  The cafè’s tag line says it all “Smart Food for a Good Mood”.

Walking into the cafe you are immediately  drawn to the amazing architecture and the reminiscent feel of an apothecary accompanied with the unmistakable smell of aphrodisiacal coffee, oh and the vibe pulsates cool.

Models are nonchalantly splayed all about the cafe, in offduty hip attire and makeup free dewy gorgeousness.  “I’ll have what she’s having!”

The art that accompanies quite possibly THE best almond milk latte ever consumed is beyond mind blowing.  Who knew “sketching” was a foam art thing?

Dr. Smood is a growing concern. No need to FOMO your latte.  Dr. Smood has planned openings in NYC and throughout various countries.

In the meantime order your own Dr. Smood experience for home.  Just make sure you are appropriately fashionable in your attire!

NYFW SS 2017 – Jonathan Simkhai

I went, I saw, I conquered.  NYFW Spring Summer 2017 was my first.  Attending NYFW was one of my primary goals when I started  To know me is to know that setting and achieving my goals is my raison d’être.

Appropriately Jonathan Simkhai‘s show was my first.  He is one of my absolute favorite designers, and being personally invited to his show was a major high point not quickly forgotten.fullsizerender-1The show was packed with instagram’s hotshots, Olivia Palermo, Ashley Graeme, Jamie Chung, Kylie Jenner, Joe Zee and Brad Goreski to name just a few.  Jonathan Simkhai has quickly skyrocketed to super designer stardom, and so very deservingly.

This show was inspired by the Watts Towers in LA, an architectural creation of 17 interconnected structures built with garbage over 34 years – there are still some brand identifying labels to be seen on pop bottles!

This collection delivered a more polished version of his trademark cutout silhouettes, denim and Italian lace designs.

SS17 collection’s ivory, silks, chiffons, satins, navy blues (yup, my absolute fave), soft baby blue chambrays and the textures, ruffles and tears made the n models’  movement beyond spectacular.

The casting was exact with models in light, natural makeup, straight hair loose with undone unexpected braids scattered about.

Jonathan Simkhai‘s line is found in Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Intermix, Saks Fifth Avenue and at  This scattering of high end retailers is all in walking distance in NYC.

Trust me, I was searching for these gorg camel & navy pieces while attending NYFW and marched for miles to find them.  Sadly they haven’t even been delivered yet and so reversecommuter is attempting fashion patience – so not my strong point!

This might seem like a rather high end selection of retailers but his price point in comparison to his creations is kind to the fashion consumer.  It is rare to find a talent this rich offering his designs with a price tag we can all reach.

This SS2017 collection is all about layering and everyday luxury.

In case you are wondering these are my absolute favorite two looks from the runway show.

True Love.

I was also invited to his After Party at a nightclub called The Blond.

I mean, how could I not go?!

Wynwood Walls

Graffiti is the most primitive expression of art.

All you need is a couple of cans of spray paint, some walls…

and mad crazy good talent!

Anyone else smell something burning?  Vaporize much creepy alien dude?

Wynwood Walls in Miami is an area of the city rich in Spanish, Haitian, and American culture.

The walls are a testament to the passion and creativity of the people.

Seriously inspirational place to be – I had to start writing immediately!

The artists change up the walls all the time, making this area an ongoing interactive art display.

It is also an area of up and coming designers and there are some ridiculously fantabulous boutiques and showrooms littered throughout.
One of my absolute faves is Style Mafia.  Trust me, you just have to go.  NOW!

I was lucky enough to take the founder of Style Mafiaand a fabulous friend of mine (who introduced us) out for THE best cup of coffee after shopping at the showroom.

Even the coffee bar baristas are full blown artists in Wynwood !

So spray on the “Off” to combat the Zika and spend a day cruising through an art gallery located on the walls in the streets of Wynwood.

Cleaning Up!

Happy New Year!  Brand new 2016 is a time to get organized.

Bid adieu to the Christmas decorations and while I’m at it, get rid of a few pieces in the wardrobe.

Replace white t-shirts, any sweaters with mega-balls or the moths have nibbled on, distressed jeans that are more holes than denim (see photo) and anything else that is deemed stale, icky or bleuch.

The wintry weather is the perfect time to burrow indoors and get the annual closet purge done!

Shorts and the 3 Letter “A” Word

“Age” or “Ass” it’s completely up to you, but one of these 3 letter “A” words NEEDS to influence the shorts you wear!

It’s not by accident that J Crew offers shorts in 3″, 4″, 5″ and 7′ options.  Click here to buy any length on sale!

Slip-on shorts make summer dressing a breeze!

Find a pair with lace or tassels or some sort of embellishment like these gorgeous Paloma Blue silk shorts to increase the WOW factor, then pull them over a bathing suit, slip on an unbuttoned linen short and baddabing you are gorgeous!

Denim cutoffs…where to start?  Delicately put, if it hurts to sit in them they are too short.

Denim cutoffs are the epitome of summer, and the possibilities are endless.  Tanks, t-shirts, loose blousey silk shirts a la Equipment with a bikini top underneath.

Could it be easier?

Board shorts are a classic closet fave of mine because of the easy-peasy factor.  Bikini, board shorts, flip flops, basic white t-shirt BOOM go hit that beach side bar!

Shorts Season is here!  Celebrate the gams girls!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Springtime Weekends – potential patio openings, tulips a plenty & gorgeous outfits come out from beneath big winter coats!

Coachella isn’t just about music, fashion is coming to the dessert in a BIG way!  CFDA will be present for the first time, and reverse commuter favorite designer Jonathan Simkhai (also a member of the CFDA) will be playing int he dessert too.  H&M, PopSugar and Trina Turk will also be at the festival.

Coachella, which started in 1999, has evolved into a fashion statement as much as a music festival, so it really does make perfect sense for the fashion world to start paying attention! Click here to see what a Coachella Mama wears!

Speaking of Chanel – and what prettier, quiltier, chain-strapped topic is there?  Chanel shoppers in China are very pleased with the price adjustments Chanel made on April 8th.  Click here to read more about this from an earlier post.

A 20% price drop is WAY significant and it might just seem like Chanel is having a sale in Shanghai today!

Enjoy the weekend – go get a pedicure and wear those fabulous strappy shoes (that have been buried in the back of the closet all winter), while sipping champs on a patio!

Sexy Lingerie Partout en Paris!

reversecommuter spent Easter in Paris and as a result I have come to conclusion that French women love their lingerie.  Like really love their lingerie.  As I am quite sure the French men do as well😉  Maybe even like lingerie more than les patisseries (bakery).

It is truly everywhere in Paris.   Walking about the Parisian streets one is suddenly in possession of a burning desire to buy MANY lacy, frilly pieces of lingerie in a great variety of colors and styles.  A neutral t-shirt bra did not make the shopping list AT ALL!

Printemps is a gorgeous, huge, designer stocked department store that has dedicated an entire floor just to frilly bits.  Beautiful, florals, bright hot pinks, seductive blacks, lacy, racy, frilly, sexy, sumptuous lingerie.

Aubade is one of reversecommuter’s favorite lingerie lines, and whenever I am in Europe I try to stock up due to better selection and price.  Their trademark lace up design is trés coquette (very flirty).

La Perla is another crowd pleaser that held major real estate in the Printemps store.  DROOLWORTHY lingerie.

La Perla’s Everyday Essentials is a new line, softer pricing and ridiculously soft cotton.  reversecommuter has numerous pairs of the drawstring pants and tanks – makes for great post bubble bath hangout wear, comfy with a subtle side of sexy (and less than a pair of yoga pants).

There is also Princess Tam Tam, which has stand alone stores plus is in Printemps.  Great selection and even better prices.

Sort of a sexier version of Victoria’s Secret, imagine that!

So here is a golden nugget of knowledge.  Lingerie makes the outfit.  It reminds you that  you are STILL the sexy little vixen you were before becoming a mother, a chauffeur, a cook, a laundress and a nose wiper extraordinaire.  So take a moment to tour the links littered throughout this post, and treat yourself (and the one you love) to a quick Parisian update to your wardrobe.
