Simkhai Spring 2018 NYFW & A Party Too!

Jonathan Simkhai presented his Spring 2018 Collection on Saturday at Skylight Clarkson Square in New York City, as part of NYFW.

Pastels, light breezy chambrays, lacework cascading through delicious black, cream and navy dresses – yup, that is still my fave color.  Rose jumpsuits, pinstripes and black strappy dresses, and a one sleeved ruffly top that I have actually dreamt about for the past two nights, it is just that perfect.

The Collection had a strong softness, a romantic element (the models hair and makeup was magical) that celebrated the strength of femininity.  Ruffles, diagonal cut skirts, lace and denim all combined for a show not to be missed.

Simkhai also collaborated with Reebok and brought back the Hi Top, originally sported by none other that Jane Fonda in her workout videos!

This time round the Reebok Hi Tops are catering to the Simkhai collection.  Lace, soft blue and rose colored complimenting the distressed denim and various other bananas-good pieces Simkhai sent down the runway.

  * Full disclosure, the runway was actually a square but the gorgeous clothes were still sent “down”. *

When I started reversecommuter I had two personal goals.  One was to go to NYFW.  Jonathan Simkhai has invited me three times (so far) and it means the world to me.  Undeniably I am a mad fan for his clothing, but what is truly incredible is the person he is, he is THE example of the getting what you deserve.

But wait, there’s more.  After the show, Jonathan Simkhai had an after party, held at Made Hotel.  An incredibly, appropriately gorgeous crowd complete with crazy beautiful djs, custom cocktails and a phenomenally powerful happy vibe.

But don’t take my word for it, read all about it in Vogue!

Sensational Simkhai at Saks!

Saks Fifth Avenue hosted the ridiculously fabulous Jonathan Simkhai for a day of style, swings and seriously decadent designer wear.

reversecommuter has been consistent in my adoration and appreciation for the design and talent of Jonathan Simkhai

Seriously, take a tour through the past four years of this blog and count the numerous mentions of one of my absolute favorite designers!

Fun story about the white lace top I am wearing – Saks special ordered three of these for the event, and all three were snapped up before 2pm yesterday, in fact we were all trying them on at the same time, three dressing rooms in a row!

Yesterday’s Saks event was tremendous and proves that Jonathan Simkhai is a designer that knows what his clients desire.  Despite his crazy busy schedule, international clientele and mind-boggling success – he danced with Gigi & Kendal for Vogue for Pete’s Sake, he was absolutely in the moment in Boston.

Jonathan was literally running between jam packed dressing rooms yesterday, meeting and greeting his clients as well as offering customized one on one alterations and suggestions.  #fashionswoon!💕

He suggested I try this dress on – so obviously I did!

Sadly it was too big but perhaps a revisit may occur if an appropriate event pops up on the calendar – I’m thinking of a gala in June…or maybe this white lace and cotton full length dress which I absolutely covet (despite my goofy face in this pic!).

The clothes are decadent, feminine and yet strong at the same time.  Fancy lace detail paired with chambray denim or cotton that allows the client to interpret the way she wants to wear the piece – flip flops, sandals or Stillettos, casual patio lunch or dreamy date night.  This is the attribute that makes Jonathan Simkhai a favorite designer.  This red dress will be a perfect summer piece and I can pair it with gold flat sandals or a heel.  Dressed up or down, a Simkhai piece makes you walk just that little bit taller & happier!

The more I learn about the man Jonathan Simkhai and his incredibly talented, crazy intelligent team the more I own the validity of my four year & counting style crush.💕

Everything’s Coming up Rosie!

Rosie Assoulin‘s Spring Summer 2017 Collection is everything.  Everything I want to wear everyday for SS17!

Rosie’s NYFW presentation was held in the meatpacking district in a cool urban concrete industrial space, that she transformed into the coolest interpretation of a beach.

The sand dunes were comprised of recyclable packing peanuts, the palm trees were strategically placed throughout the space and there were fun, brilliantly colored, disruptive piles of foldable beach chairs on the beach.

Voluminous khaki wide leg pants (seriously no other designer does a wide leg like Rosie), chambray denim, stripes that beg for an accompanying surfboard and florals that immediately transport you somewhere ridiculously happy and warm.

Swarovski crystals played a really large part in this collection.  Complete rainbow brilliant sparkly dresses

Happy Faces and Thank You’s

Tangerine dreams dresses that beg for an outdoor event with a tent!

The only disappointing point of the Rosie Assoulin SS17 collection is that we all have to go through Winter 2016 before we can wear all this happiness!

NYFW SS 2017 – Jonathan Simkhai

I went, I saw, I conquered.  NYFW Spring Summer 2017 was my first.  Attending NYFW was one of my primary goals when I started reversecommuter.com.  To know me is to know that setting and achieving my goals is my raison d’être.

Appropriately Jonathan Simkhai‘s show was my first.  He is one of my absolute favorite designers, and being personally invited to his show was a major high point not quickly forgotten.fullsizerender-1The show was packed with instagram’s hotshots, Olivia Palermo, Ashley Graeme, Jamie Chung, Kylie Jenner, Joe Zee and Brad Goreski to name just a few.  Jonathan Simkhai has quickly skyrocketed to super designer stardom, and so very deservingly.

unknown-10

This show was inspired by the Watts Towers in LA, an architectural creation of 17 interconnected structures built with garbage over 34 years – there are still some brand identifying labels to be seen on pop bottles!

This collection delivered a more polished version of his trademark cutout silhouettes, denim and Italian lace designs.

SS17 collection’s ivory, silks, chiffons, satins, navy blues (yup, my absolute fave), soft baby blue chambrays and the textures, ruffles and tears made the n models’  movement beyond spectacular.

unknown-8

The casting was exact with models in light, natural makeup, straight hair loose with undone unexpected braids scattered about.

Jonathan Simkhai‘s line is found in Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Intermix, Saks Fifth Avenue and at www.jonathansimkhai.com.  This scattering of high end retailers is all in walking distance in NYC.

Trust me, I was searching for these gorg camel & navy pieces while attending NYFW and marched for miles to find them.  Sadly they haven’t even been delivered yet and so reversecommuter is attempting fashion patience – so not my strong point!

unknown-9

This might seem like a rather high end selection of retailers but his price point in comparison to his creations is kind to the fashion consumer.  It is rare to find a talent this rich offering his designs with a price tag we can all reach.

This SS2017 collection is all about layering and everyday luxury.

In case you are wondering these are my absolute favorite two looks from the runway show.

True Love.

PS.

I was also invited to his After Party at a nightclub called The Blond.

I mean, how could I not go?!

Hey Sailor

Navy and white stripes.  Simple. Classic.  Clean.  Always in style.

There is a reason the French line Saint James is constantly being “discovered”, even though the fisherman sweater was first created in the 19th century.  The line is currently being touted at J Crew, as well as their own online shop.

This is a great look year round, not just summer.  Add a jean jacket on top of this dress and it can work up until the leaves change and fall off the trees.

By far my favorite bag right now is my tiny little Chloe mini Marcie bag.  Cross shoulder, holds my phone (barely), keys, a couple of credit cards and my Kiehl’s tub of lip balm.  The best part of free hands is allowing more hand holding!

Shortie

Summer dresses are a strange length this year. Resembling more of a short coverup or a long t-shirt.

At first I thought it was just me, but it is an actual thing.  Goop’s  got about half a dozen for sale in their summer shop.

J Crew’s offering a bunch of short dresses too.  See, it’s a veritable “thing”.

Super short is not a great look for little girls and it most certainly isn’t ideal for their mamas.

Consider how many times you bend down in a typical day!

Simple solution, a great pair of shorts.  They don’t even have to be seen.  Keep them guessing!

POP goes the Neon

Easiest way to brighten up a look?  Add a shock of neon a la Andy Warhol.

Tassels stacked from a necklace or two.

Pompoms, currently found on everything from dresses, rompers, scarves and bags.  Misa’s Camille dress (Recently spotted on Olivia Palermo) is a budget friendly fun example.

Sunglasses lenses – did you know you can build your brilliant lenses on Rayban?
A cute pair of espadrilles, like these from Pitusa.

Neon adds instant happiness to an outfit and is a fun and inexpensive way to extend that summer vibe!
