Plane Jane

What do you wear to travel?  Airlines have exorcised the glamor right out of plane travel.

The onus is on each and everyone of us is to be prepared for any potential temperature, seating arrangement or delay.

Full Disclosure I am sitting on the tarmac delayed while I write this…

Slides are the first absolute must every air traveler should own.

Easy on and off when going through security and stylishly cute enough to keep you happy even when your feet are swelling.  Don’t try to deny it, it happens to all of us!

Next up is a good blazer.  Flying from one climate to another can be challenging, and there is not always a need to bring a big bulky jacket.  A blazer can be layered,  hoodies are HOT right now, so why not invest in a Vestments piece to go with the blazer?

Once you land somewhere warm, the blazer goes perfectly with a tank or t-shirt.

Next on the list, a carry on suitcase.  Seriously.  Yes, just one bag.

Never again will your eyes well up with tears as the luggage belt circles around & around, empty without your bag.  Don’t check it, bring it on the plane with you.  If the editors of British Vogue can do it during fashion weeks, then so too can we!  Rimowa offers colorful, hard case carrying suitcases that allow a lot inside.

Finally, an  exaggerated sized cashmere scarf.  Planes get cold and passengers get sleepy.  Why not pack something like Alexander McQueen’s scarf, that will make you feel like a princess despite the stranger snoring loudly right beside you?  It will also double nicely as a wrap in the evening wherever you are traveling to.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to run to my connecting gate!

Designer Sneaks

Remember when a pair of sneakers were just something to wear to workout in?

Those days are gonezola people.  High end designers have gotten into the game and the sneaks are snazzy!

The prices can be startling too.  But for art and fashion we happily pay.

Golden Goose Deluxe Brand, from Italy is a major player in the designer sneaker club.  Basic cut, either low or high top, ALWAYS with the signature leather star, then add sparkles, suede or buttery soft Italian leather with an unbelievably comfortable insole.  The $500 price tag is up there but once you try, you fall in love and buy.
Ports 1961 knot sneaker is a yummy design that translates beautifully season after season.  Leather, satin, velvet or the newest offering multi-print knot is establishing itself as a major contender.  A $700 price tag, and rarely can you find them on sale.

Gucci’sAlessandro Michele has adorned Gucci’s adidas Stan Smith inspired sneakers with bumble bees, hearts, studs, snakes and/or stripes.

All of which can be matched to a gorgeous handbag or clothing piece from Gucci’s couture or ready to wear line.  Grazie Miele Alessandro!

Alessandro has deemed sales are no longer part of Gucci’s retail existence, so buying a pair of the sneakers is really a smart investment, at a cool $950.  (clearly I am the one you need to help you justify a purchase…)

Saint Laurent made it exceptionally easy for reversecommuter to choose her sneakers – palm trees!

January being the month of avid fitness and New Years resolutioners crowding the gym, set yourself apart from the crowd with some serious kicks!

Hey Sailor

Navy and white stripes.  Simple. Classic.  Clean.  Always in style.

There is a reason the French line Saint James is constantly being “discovered”, even though the fisherman sweater was first created in the 19th century.  The line is currently being touted at J Crew, as well as their own online shop.

This is a great look year round, not just summer.  Add a jean jacket on top of this dress and it can work up until the leaves change and fall off the trees.

By far my favorite bag right now is my tiny little Chloe mini Marcie bag.  Cross shoulder, holds my phone (barely), keys, a couple of credit cards and my Kiehl’s tub of lip balm.  The best part of free hands is allowing more hand holding!

POP goes the Neon

Easiest way to brighten up a look?  Add a shock of neon a la Andy Warhol.

Tassels stacked from a necklace or two.

Pompoms, currently found on everything from dresses, rompers, scarves and bags.  Misa’s Camille dress (Recently spotted on Olivia Palermo) is a budget friendly fun example.

Sunglasses lenses – did you know you can build your brilliant lenses on Rayban?
A cute pair of espadrilles, like these from Pitusa.

Neon adds instant happiness to an outfit and is a fun and inexpensive way to extend that summer vibe!

All Tied Up

Pirates love this detail.

Sailors too.  Luckily land-locked designers are fully embracing this too!

Monroe’s white lace up gives a major refresh to the perfect white tee.

Apparently Alexander Wang is all about this trend with this entertaining Spring 2016 cotton sweater.  Is it just me or is this THE ultimate baseball sweater?

Equipment’s cotton lace up blouse (ahem – totally on sale right now!) is a fantastic addition that will carry right into the Fall!

Alexander McQueen’s mini dress has a sporty take on the lace up detail that screams summer!

Clearly this dress would be THE one piece wonder packed in that holiday suitcase, slap a pair of gladiator sandals and run from the beach to cocktails to dinner!

All that laces up doesn’t go in the front.  Take Red Valentino’s flirty black coat with the lace detail in the back.

This coat would look phenomenal all dressed up OR paired with a favorite pair of jeans.  That sounds like a perfect purchase!

Jonathan Simkhai’s Pre-Spring lace up sleeved blouse is beyond on trend – it is everything.

Slip off the blazer in the middle of the meeting – yup, even if it is a bake sale meeting, PTO meeting or an actual board meeting – these sleeves will Tie It All Up!

Weather or not…

Spring 2016 is the East is chilly, as in freezing cold!

Allow reversecommuter to turn chilly lemons into lemonade.

Spring collections are seconds away from going on sale.  No need to feel blue about your frozen baseball bleacher trapped body parts.  Warmer weather is (hopefully) just days away.

Retail is a strange business.  Fall 2016 collections will be on store floors & websites by mid June.

Happily that means the spring collections need to be cleared out at discount prices!
Swimwear 2016 included.

Coveted designer labels such as Marysia Swim are already dropping prices online.

Dresses, on sale too.  Alexander Wang just sent out their VIP private sale announcement yesterday, and this awesome striped racer back dress is 40% off.  Ahoy there!

Sandals, ditto.

Yup, even the tassels magical unicorn of shoes (sexy, high heeled and comfy!), Aquazzura‘s wild thing!

A clever strategy right about now would be to go to all your favorite online shopping spots and fill up your wishlist basket.

Then sit back, pour yourself a lovely glass of rosé and wait for the email to arrive trumpeting the beginning of the sales!

Don’tcha just love a happy ending?!

Happen Stance

It just happened.
Walking around Soho on a sunny afternoon, a window display teetering on an artistic exhibit caught my eye.

Imagine my surprise when I realized it was a sock store.  Just socks.  In the entire store, socks.

Not just the plain daily white tube sock variety mind you.

Stance socks are so much more than socks.  Stance socks rock.

As in designed by Rihanna socks that rock.

As in Star Wars characters’ socks that rock.

As in Stance brand ambassadors waaaaaay cooler than mere mortals will ever be.
