NYFW SS 2017 – Jonathan Simkhai

I went, I saw, I conquered.  NYFW Spring Summer 2017 was my first.  Attending NYFW was one of my primary goals when I started reversecommuter.com.  To know me is to know that setting and achieving my goals is my raison d’être.

Appropriately Jonathan Simkhai‘s show was my first.  He is one of my absolute favorite designers, and being personally invited to his show was a major high point not quickly forgotten.fullsizerender-1The show was packed with instagram’s hotshots, Olivia Palermo, Ashley Graeme, Jamie Chung, Kylie Jenner, Joe Zee and Brad Goreski to name just a few.  Jonathan Simkhai has quickly skyrocketed to super designer stardom, and so very deservingly.

This show was inspired by the Watts Towers in LA, an architectural creation of 17 interconnected structures built with garbage over 34 years – there are still some brand identifying labels to be seen on pop bottles!

This collection delivered a more polished version of his trademark cutout silhouettes, denim and Italian lace designs.

SS17 collection’s ivory, silks, chiffons, satins, navy blues (yup, my absolute fave), soft baby blue chambrays and the textures, ruffles and tears made the n models’  movement beyond spectacular.

The casting was exact with models in light, natural makeup, straight hair loose with undone unexpected braids scattered about.

Jonathan Simkhai‘s line is found in Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Intermix, Saks Fifth Avenue and at www.jonathansimkhai.com.  This scattering of high end retailers is all in walking distance in NYC.

Trust me, I was searching for these gorg camel & navy pieces while attending NYFW and marched for miles to find them.  Sadly they haven’t even been delivered yet and so reversecommuter is attempting fashion patience – so not my strong point!

unknown-9

This might seem like a rather high end selection of retailers but his price point in comparison to his creations is kind to the fashion consumer.  It is rare to find a talent this rich offering his designs with a price tag we can all reach.

This SS2017 collection is all about layering and everyday luxury.

unknown-6

In case you are wondering these are my absolute favorite two looks from the runway show.

True Love.

PS.

I was also invited to his After Party at a nightclub called The Blond.

I mean, how could I not go?!

SKIN SLURP!

Being chosen to review luxury products in the wide world of blogging is a lovely compliment.

Receiving a box of products you already use, and pay for without hesitation, is like Christmas arriving in Spring!

SK-II is a skin care product line that’s main ingredient is sake, specifically Pitera.

The youthful hands of aged sake brewers were the trigger for the SK-II scientists, something in the sake was responsible.

sake

Seriously, sake.  Needless to say it was not a hard sell to lure in reversecommuter.  KONNICHIWA! (welcome!)

The SK-II facial treatment essence is a crucial part of my daily skin care.  Easy to pat on right out of the shower, it smells yummy and moisturizes without ever feeling heavy.  It’s as moisturizing as slurping coconut water or splashing in the ocean!

After I get dressed – sometimes the process of finding something in the closet of nothing-to-wear can take a loooooong time – yet my skin is still dewy and ready for a moisturizer to seal all that in for the day.  Truly, DEWY is my ultimate goal – I live in New England for pete’s sake!   Sake not Sake (punny right?!)

In a world of multiple step processes for everything we do from hair, skin, even multiple layers of clothing, a one step wonder is a welcome addition.  SK-II, “Arigatou Gozaimasu!” (thank you very much!)

Velvet Noir

Marc Jacobs forgot to invite me to Monday’s Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir mascara launch party in NYC.

Luckily for this blogger Sephora chose me to preview the new mascara before its official launch.  Thank you!

It is now available online, $26 and it can be yours – click here!
Cute packaging with stylish Marc Jacobs branding.  Easy application.  Definitely a lengthening and volumizing mascara.  Not to mention a really great price point.

One little drawback is how quickly the raccoon eyes started to form underneath my eyes.  With so many mascaras on the market that are tried and trusted, not to mention the limited time a mom has to actually put on mascara let alone monitor for black smudges, it’s a very good thing Marc has that clothing line too!

Happy to test drive some of the gorgeous Spring 2016 Collection…

Linen, from 100% Capri.

“The wrinkle of wealth” was what my grandmother called linen, and Anthony Aiello is the man responsible for the most luxurious wrinkles around.

100% Capri was founded in 2000, on the small Italian island of Capri (clever name huh?).   Handmade pieces light as breath and simplistic perfection in design.

The Bal Harbor Shops boutique is stylistically representative of a romantic beach escape, you can almost hear the ocean!

Tropical Polish

It is snowing again. Dumping obscene amounts of snow across New England. Boston’s suburbs are blanketed, school is shut down and the record books are quivering with delight at the new heights reached with the freezing cold white stuff.
reversecommuter could choose to wax on about Snowmageddon 2015, but instead I’ve chosen to zero in on tropical nail Polish offerings.

What’s better than a brilliantly cute named, beach friendly OPI nail polish to take the brrrr out of February?

TransAtlantic Girl Crush

reversecommuter has a notsosecret girl crush on Victoria Beckham.

Her clean lined minimalistic clothing line is drool and dream worthy.  This little navy number is SO my new obsession!

The aesthetics cross over seamlessly into her luxe leather goods line.

Now VB has delivered again in her collaboration with NAILS INC., launching two colors Judo Red and Bamboo White.

reversecommuter wrote about this limited collection just before Christmas, so imagine my delight when the big man in the red suit slipped a couple of each color into my stocking!

The polish is phenomenal – not as rough on hands as gel but just as glossy and quite durable.  These are important virtues when considering daily life of the suburbanly challenged – cooking, cleaning, washing little hands and faces, walking dogs in the freezing cold tundra-like winter, running errands and basically doing all things that pretty much guarantee death to a manicure!
