New Column by yours truly in The Boston Globe in a special fashion feature this weekend!
The evening allowed Boston fashion fans to meet, ask questions, and even party late late late into the night with these incredibly talented and mad friendly designers.
Models rotated looks from the current and upcoming collections while the crowd posed, clinked glasses, danced and happily hung out with Dao Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne – or at least that is how reversecommuter did it!
The tartan biased cut skirt (think flannel tartan shirt tied sloppily at the waist and dangling down at various angles) was an absolute fave. Public School’s current FW’16 collection offers this in a darker tartan, and the upcoming Spring ’17 collection it will be in black and white.
Nothing better than a skirt designed to work with boots and a t-shirt or elevated with ankle boots and a leather top. The beauty of Public School’s designs is that they can absolutely be worn every single day in the ‘burbs. Ironic that when the children go to school the moms can wear Public School!
Public School‘s Fall 2016 magenta biker jacket better be in Santa’s sack for this blogger, it is THAT good a statement piece. This brilliant jacket will make any grey winter day seem a little blast of tropical happiness blew in!
Public School is also launching the Fitbit Alta collection, offering two sleek and stylish models that will make capturing those alluring 10,000 steps even more of an accomplishment – ever notice how obsessive a behavior that can be?!
reversecommuter has been a fan of this design duo for a while, the CFDA brought them to my attention, their designs have continued to capture my attention, and Maxwell Osborne’s Black Lives Matter letter to W Magazine fully delivered my loyalty.
ps my phone case is super cute (a Chanel perfume bottle shape with pink sparkles floating on the back – however my blurry pictures confirm it is infringing upon the camera lens – time to replace…
I am a goal focused person.
A great t-shirt reminder never hurts! Suburban Riot’s t-shirts are a favorite go to of mine. Inexpensive, fun fashion pick me ups.
I went, I saw, I conquered. NYFW Spring Summer 2017 was my first. Attending NYFW was one of my primary goals when I started reversecommuter.com. To know me is to know that setting and achieving my goals is my raison d’être.
Appropriately Jonathan Simkhai‘s show was my first. He is one of my absolute favorite designers, and being personally invited to his show was a major high point not quickly forgotten. The show was packed with instagram’s hotshots, Olivia Palermo, Ashley Graeme, Jamie Chung, Kylie Jenner, Joe Zee and Brad Goreski to name just a few. Jonathan Simkhai has quickly skyrocketed to super designer stardom, and so very deservingly.
This show was inspired by the Watts Towers in LA, an architectural creation of 17 interconnected structures built with garbage over 34 years – there are still some brand identifying labels to be seen on pop bottles!
This collection delivered a more polished version of his trademark cutout silhouettes, denim and Italian lace designs.
SS17 collection’s ivory, silks, chiffons, satins, navy blues (yup, my absolute fave), soft baby blue chambrays and the textures, ruffles and tears made the n models’ movement beyond spectacular.
The casting was exact with models in light, natural makeup, straight hair loose with undone unexpected braids scattered about.
Jonathan Simkhai‘s line is found in Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Intermix, Saks Fifth Avenue and at www.jonathansimkhai.com. This scattering of high end retailers is all in walking distance in NYC.
Trust me, I was searching for these gorg camel & navy pieces while attending NYFW and marched for miles to find them. Sadly they haven’t even been delivered yet and so reversecommuter is attempting fashion patience – so not my strong point!
This might seem like a rather high end selection of retailers but his price point in comparison to his creations is kind to the fashion consumer. It is rare to find a talent this rich offering his designs with a price tag we can all reach.
This SS2017 collection is all about layering and everyday luxury.
In case you are wondering these are my absolute favorite two looks from the runway show.
I was also invited to his After Party at a nightclub called The Blond.
I mean, how could I not go?!
Easiest way to brighten up a look? Add a shock of neon a la Andy Warhol.
Pompoms, currently found on everything from dresses, rompers, scarves and bags. Misa’s Camille dress (Recently spotted on Olivia Palermo) is a budget friendly fun example.
Pirates love this detail.
Sailors too. Luckily land-locked designers are fully embracing this too!
Monroe’s white lace up gives a major refresh to the perfect white tee.
Apparently Alexander Wang is all about this trend with this entertaining Spring 2016 cotton sweater. Is it just me or is this THE ultimate baseball sweater?
Equipment’s cotton lace up blouse (ahem – totally on sale right now!) is a fantastic addition that will carry right into the Fall!
Alexander McQueen’s mini dress has a sporty take on the lace up detail that screams summer!
Clearly this dress would be THE one piece wonder packed in that holiday suitcase, slap a pair of gladiator sandals and run from the beach to cocktails to dinner!
All that laces up doesn’t go in the front. Take Red Valentino’s flirty black coat with the lace detail in the back.
This coat would look phenomenal all dressed up OR paired with a favorite pair of jeans. That sounds like a perfect purchase!
Jonathan Simkhai’s Pre-Spring lace up sleeved blouse is beyond on trend – it is everything.
Slip off the blazer in the middle of the meeting – yup, even if it is a bake sale meeting, PTO meeting or an actual board meeting – these sleeves will Tie It All Up!
Yigal Azrouel is the perfect man. He is handsome, charming, talented, single and he surfs. He was in the Israeli military and recommends sit ups, push ups and running as the best workout. Surfing is his passion, and it allows him to decompress after presenting his collections.
Some may call him a unicorn in the fashion world.
This weekend Yigal is previewing his Fall 2016 Collection at the Greta Luxe boutique in Wellesley and mixing with the housewives.
Thursday night he was mingling and adding his gorgeous personal touch to every advance purchase of a line that is oozing with decadence. To say there was a line up would be an understatement. The intimacy was electric.
A full length lace off the shoulder dress with burgundy and greens wafting throughout in a romantic weave quickly caught my attention. Holiday season 2016 the bar has been raised!
Yigal Azrouel’s Fall 2016 Collection’s main inspiration was the Black Rose. Subtle, rich, hidden yet still representative of love. The clothes continue to deliver his love of decadence, texture and drama. The leathers and furs sourced from Italy and France are quite possibly the best offered by an American designer, collection after collection.
Rushing out of Greta Luxe to hit the baseball and soccer fields (as is the role of suburban mama), I giggled in the rain as I ran in Yigal Azrouel top and my stilettos, reliving how I had just played dress up with a handsome fashion designer unicorn!
Being chosen to review luxury products in the wide world of blogging is a lovely compliment.
Receiving a box of products you already use, and pay for without hesitation, is like Christmas arriving in Spring!
SK-II is a skin care product line that’s main ingredient is sake, specifically Pitera.
The youthful hands of aged sake brewers were the trigger for the SK-II scientists, something in the sake was responsible.
Seriously, sake. Needless to say it was not a hard sell to lure in reversecommuter. KONNICHIWA! (welcome!)
The SK-II facial treatment essence is a crucial part of my daily skin care. Easy to pat on right out of the shower, it smells yummy and moisturizes without ever feeling heavy. It’s as moisturizing as slurping coconut water or splashing in the ocean!
After I get dressed – sometimes the process of finding something in the closet of nothing-to-wear can take a loooooong time – yet my skin is still dewy and ready for a moisturizer to seal all that in for the day. Truly, DEWY is my ultimate goal – I live in New England for pete’s sake! Sake not Sake (punny right?!)
In a world of multiple step processes for everything we do from hair, skin, even multiple layers of clothing, a one step wonder is a welcome addition. SK-II, “Arigatou Gozaimasu!” (thank you very much!)
One of THE biggest and funnest trends for Spring 2016 is shoulder baring clothing.
The simplest piece in any wardrobe is a great dress.
Insert the shoulder baring option et Voila – Sexy Spring Style!!
Budgets need not beware.
The trend is delivered on both sprectrums of the dollar sign. #rejoicingbudgets
Purchase a shoulder showing top NOW! Add jeans or a great pair of shorts – mine are from H&M, top is from the incredible Tanya Taylor.
NYFW is in full swing and reversecommuter is at the beach. Literally.
The timing of fashion week always baffles me. The middle of the coldest winter month, which also coencided with my children’s school break. How is this blogger supposed to sneak away to New York during THAT week?
Happily Vogue, Tim Blanks, Instagram and the Internet are all willing to work on my behalf (lol) and keep me posted while I focus on swim, sun, surf and all things beachy!
Jonathan Simkhai presented his Fall 2016 Collection yesterday and dare I say it was one of THE best presentations!
Jonathan has created a niche using geometric cuts and lace in his deliciously designed dresses and knits. Fall 2016 continued this but in a more wearable way. His dresses were less crop top more hot wives who lunch. Wearable but with a major statement of style and strength.
Bustiers and slip dresses complemented with luxurious furs delivered fantasy level date night outfits. His romantic sensibility met body conscious sex appeal in every piece, by adhering to the age old adage of keeping somethings left to the imagination.
