Fashion & Finance Friday!

Blogging with an ocean view is not as easy as it sounds – the temptation to play is way to great!  That is my excuse for a late submission today, can you really blame me?

IMG_0004New York Fashion Week is officially underway.  Devastated as reversecommuter is to have missed Jonathan Simkhai‘s crazy good show yesterday, at least I can drown my sorrows with a phenomenal margarita beachside.

YVL_1294 The signature ‘meshiness’ of his clothes makes me want to invest and layer up in Jonathan Simkhai pieces from head to toe, now and with the new Fall 2015 collection.

Ready for a clever segway?

Moda Operandi, the online boutique of immediate fashion gratification, has just received $60 MILLION Series E financing, with the most generous funding coming from Boston’s own Fidelity Investments.  Great news for any fashion fan who NEEDS/WANTS the latest luxury fashion directly from the runway.

The lines Moda Operandi carries include Jonathan Simkhai.  See how I did that?  🙂

Speaking of clever, chalk up another brilliant business move by Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon. Amazon just signed on as a major sponsor of Fashion Week, (starting with the upcoming Men’s Fashion Week), but reversecommuter predicts with the opening left by the departing Mercedez Benz, perhaps Amazon’s deep pockets could help NYFW like not many other sponsors could…

Bezos has grand fashion inspirations for Amazon (click here for more) so this new relationship is so very important!

Enjoy the weekend, ignore the impending snow storms and pop the cork on that champs with wild abandon…while wearing something romantic & fabulous!

Desperate Housewife clinging to your style and love of fashion, yet as a “Real Housewife of SOMEBURB” you are uncomfortably friendly with your yoga pants?

Wide leg culottes – buy them now.  Wear them now with sandals, flip flops or heels.  Parlay them into fall with ankle boots, brogues and a denim jacket.  Winterize them with boots.

Navy Blue.  Classic, cool, rich, navy blue.  (full disclosure, this is reversecommuter’s all time fave color!!)  Invest in a great piece worthy of this color.  Think navy blue blazer (so good with ripped jeans, shorts and patterned pants).  Maybe a navy blue jumpsuit.  Something meaningful, significant and navy.

Lace has invaded the runway in a Valentino pleasing manner!  Veronica Beard, Jonathan Simkhai, Oscar de la Renta, 3.1 Philip Lim, Cynthia Rowley and more, all offering gorgeous, light, airy, lace detailed pieces.

Light blue.  Think robin’s egg and invest in it.  Rosie Assoulin and Jonathan Simkhai (who’s dress was inspired by broken glass shards), delivered my personal favorites.

Start lightly with a t-shirt or sweater, test drive the light blue color, fall in love deeply before a heavy investment.  This is a great color to break up the grey winter blahs!

Suburban Kale

Sub Urban Riot is a so-Cal label that is getting a ton of press right now for their celeb favorite KALE sweatshirt.

Their Cali-Casual attitude is reflected in their line and their Downtown L.A. shop.  They instruct their customers to “Ditch the car, lose the big box retail, forget the suburbs…ride a bike.”  It is like music to reversecommuter’s ears!

Personally reversecommuter is digging the men’s collection, especially the RIOT zip up hoodie, the KALE sweatshirt and the KWay Fleece Jacket (hello old school!).  Click to “add to basket!”

Sweatshirts are the new hottest oldest thing to wear right now.  They have been aroundsince grade school but are enjoying a redefined moment as a fancy dress up item.  Who saw that coming?  Click here for that answer (hint…reversecommuter).

What is better than a versatile, patterned or phrased piece that adds an element of unexpected fun?  A piece that can be dressed up (add a blazer) or down (cut off jeans & flip flops after a day at the beach).  A piece under $50.  SAY WHAT??!?!!?!?

k6reversecommuter has a little surprise waiting for you – check in later today for a new posting related to Kale….
