Wynwood Walls

Graffiti is the most primitive expression of art.

All you need is a couple of cans of spray paint, some walls…

and mad crazy good talent!

Anyone else smell something burning?  Vaporize much creepy alien dude?

Wynwood Walls in Miami is an area of the city rich in Spanish, Haitian, and American culture.

The walls are a testament to the passion and creativity of the people.

Seriously inspirational place to be – I had to start writing immediately!

The artists change up the walls all the time, making this area an ongoing interactive art display.

It is also an area of up and coming designers and there are some ridiculously fantabulous boutiques and showrooms littered throughout.
One of my absolute faves is Style Mafia.  Trust me, you just have to go.  NOW!

I was lucky enough to take the founder of Style Mafiaand a fabulous friend of mine (who introduced us) out for THE best cup of coffee after shopping at the showroom.

Even the coffee bar baristas are full blown artists in Wynwood !

So spray on the “Off” to combat the Zika and spend a day cruising through an art gallery located on the walls in the streets of Wynwood.

Spec-ulating

Holding the phone a little too far away from your face?  Tired of contact lens early morning eye pokes?

How about updating your look with a new pair of designer glasses?

Tom Ford is my current obsession.

Totally asking Santa for Cèline’s tortoise shell round frames…oh yes, THE list is already being prepped!

Earlier this year in Italy I came across Micromega, “the most exclusive eyewear in the world”.

The designs are extraordinarily unique, and their prices are clearly living up to the description!   The first picture shows a pair for 1070 euros, and the ones below are a cool 840 euros.   A visit to the website is highly recommended, the creations are so incredibly artistic!
A new pair of designer specs is a faster fix on your total look that a great fitting pair of jeans (yup, going there in an upcoming post…)

Fortuna for Us!

Fortuna is the Roman Goddess of luck, and is the inspiration for Diane von Furstenberg’s Spring 2016 Collection just unveiled at NYFW.

DVF_LAFortuna-blog

This was the first painting Diane ever bought, it hangs in her bedroom and represents freedom, nature, beauty and individuality, and luckily for us brought forth this dazzling collection.

The Spring 2016 DVF Collection delivered bright colors (hot pinks, turquoise, white, gold, navy blues, cherry pinks and golden yellows), textures and tassels a plenty and flowing goddess worthy dresses, crop pants and jumpsuits.

The greatest part of DVF is the woman herself.

She inspires greatness, she delivers beautifully crafted clothing that is approachable in price and her sexy effortless pieces are easily wearable in everyday life.

Move over Fortuna, there is a new goddess in town and her initials are DVF!

Fornasetti Focused

reversecommuter has a little bit of a ceramic crush…

on Fornassetti pieces from Italy!

images

Originally created by Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) in Milan, the Fornasetti house is best known for it’s ceramics, specifically the plates.  Piero’s son, Barnaba has taken over the family business (great news for us) and continues the strict control of the images and creative process.

images-2

The plates and some of the furniture pieces created by Fornasetti have the face – and variations of the face – of Italian opera soprano Lina Cavalieri, after Piero randomly found her picture in a magazine.

Unknown-1
The paper patterns drawn by Piero are still used in creating the hand crafted items in the Milano atelier, and the distribution is an intensely guarded process. When you contact the Fornasetti shop in Milan, they will guide you through the purchasing process and how to avoid fakes which litter the resale market.  Deal with a reputable source to maintain the value and authenticity – designer products don’t deserve fake support!

The products available today maintain the strict creative process originated by Piero while living in Milan – in fact, you can visit the house and intimately walk amongst the books, drawings and music that inspired the creations via the Fornasetti website – reversecommuter’s fave pic is that of Piero drawing outside, inside a bathtub!

reversecommuter wants to amass a wall’s worth!  And even though the Fornasetti images are created on wallpaper (gorgeousness!!!!!!), I am holding out for the actual ceramic plates!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Hot tamales, it’s FINALLY Friday!!!!!!

Isabel Marant (la belle fille of all gorgeous boho-chicness) has announced a new capsule collection with H&M.  If you put your ear to the ground you can hear the line-ups forming already!

Resort Collections are being unveiled right now – apparently a majority of the designers presenting are in DIRE need of a vacation themselves – and their drab & dreary fashions are proof!  Marc Jacobs thinks browns, deep reds and tweed is all a gal needs to pack for a winter escape to the sun.

Balenciaga managed to put a smile on my face and make me start dreaming of where to wear 2014 Resort Wear (amazing when you consider Alexander Wang’s Resort Collection was meh at best).

Unknown-5

Burberry also nailed it – DELICIOUSNESS ABOUNDED throughout the entire Resort Collection.

Unknown-4

Speaking of Burberry, are you ready to pucker up and send kisses care of Burberry & Google?  Google’s helping Burberry break internet sales & advertising barriers, in a REALLY cool way!  Burberry’s ad campaign is dubbed “Art, Copy & Code”, and the Burberry Kiss is the initial offering.  Click here to set up your smoocher to be “mailed” to your sweetie.  You kiss the screen, enter your info, enter who the smooch is going to, and then you get to watch a fantastic world map swirl around during the delivery.  It is such a fun little exercise – perfect for a Friday!

Happy Smooch-filled, fantastically fashionable weekend!!!!

Shamps, Hip and Ole!

Imagine reversecommuter’s delight while sitting at her fave tapas restaurant Boqueria in (gasp, surprise, and obvious sarcasm) Soho, when her Handsome Husband (aka HH) leant over the table and said “Who knew we were still this cool?”  Sitting in Soho, sipping on a mango sangria, chomping on a little serano ham and manchengo, people watching GALORE and happy as a friggin’ Spanish chorizo!

Leaving the ‘burbs for a quick NYC getaway poses all kinds of packing problems.  My goal was a carry-on.  Yeah Yeah, laugh all you want but guess what?!  I DID IT!!!!!!  I packed three dresses, a silk blouse, a tank, a pair of hot pink jeans (you never know), a pair of Louboutains, some lingerie (did I mention we were away from our children for 40 hours), 3oz flight friendly toiletries, a hairbrush, a camera, an iPad, a charger, and a Britsh Vogue (don’t leave home without it!).

So for our big night out, I chose an T by Alexander Wang navy blue dress, Louboutain nude patent pumps and a little DVF clutch.  It was a little chilly that night but nothing some bubbles wouldn’t warm up!

Dinner was done, and just when I thought we headed to snoozeville, the big surprise occurs…HH announces that we MUST hit the rooftop bar at the Paramount.   Uh, excuse me Daddy of 3, where did the hip-and-hot-must-hit-list come from?  HOW LUCKY AM I?!!!!  Heck yeah, let’s go daddy-o!

Rooftop bar hanging over 5th Avenue, clear views of the Trump Tower (complete with lit up foliage about 30 floors up), distant lights of the Louis Vuitton boutique, a hint of a view of Bergdorf Goodman and Central Park, and the delish people circulating about the bar was bananas!

After a glass or two of shamps (purrrrrrrrr) and downloading about eight songs a la Shazam (part of my new summer playlist will remind me of my uber cool NYC night out), we were leaving.  But not before I fell in love with this great painting hanging in the elevator foyer:

Here is the artist’s signature (which I still find illegible), so if anyone knows who this is, PLEASE let me know!

We got back to our hotel and put the signage on the door.
