Shan Meeting!

Ever met someone you worship?  Someone who has captured your attention for a really long time and has definitely achieved hero like rockstar status?

reversecommuter recently met the Founder and Ceo of Shan Swimwear.  Can you tell in the pic that I am completely geeking out?!

Chantal Levesque is literally my Mick Jagger.  Her swimwear and designs have mesmerized me for over a decade.

I saved up to buy my first Shan bikini (red, kind of James Bond-ie) to take on my honeymoon.  My husband recently bought me a new red Shan bikini and told me it reminded him of the honeymoon one.  #whattheheckisbetterthanthat  #hunkahunkaburninglove

Shan swimwear is that good.  The styles and designs are impactful and beautiful.  Chantal knows what women like to wear, and how it should fit.  “Quality and design are always the most important details of the line”, this is not only Chantelle’s mantra but it also delivered in every collection.

Trust me, I have bought from almost every Shan collection over the past fifteen years!

Chantal has built up the company from the early days when she herself pulled the pigments out of the prints to create the colors for the collection.  “Sometimes it took at least 5 attempts to pull the perfect hue.”  Now she has “a great team in place” and doesn’t need to work around the clock.  But she still overseas the pallet and colors pulled for each collection.

Shan Spring 2017 might just be her very best.  One collection, “Do You think I’m sexy” is sumptuous, luxurious and subtly infused with classical French couture allure.

Moves like Jagger!

Style Mafia Bella!

Miami Swim Week.  What part of that statement doesn’t deliver excitement?

A beach lined city of pulsating music, bikini clad models strutting the newest swimwear lines on floating swimming pool runways, Latino energy and fashion, fashion, fashion.

I may never go home.  Seriously.

One event reversecommuter was lucky enough to attend was Coast’s rooftop party presenting a handpicked lot of designers and their incredible lines.  Designers included Acid NYC, Luxchillas, YannaK and Style Mafia.

Style Mafia is a Miami based line of beautifully designed clothing, incredible craftsmanship and seriously ridiculous-in-the-good-way pricing.

Ruffles, pinstripes, off-the-shoulder tops, cropped frayed pants, scalloped tanks and tops, flirty crop tops and nautical striped flowing tops in a clever color assortment.

Valeska and Simmonett Perera are the mother/ daughter masterminds behind Style Mafia.  Creating a line that didn’t break the bank yet still delivered trend on fashion was the absolute goal.

No exaggeration, I saw the Maeve top in yellow and thought it was Fendi.  The price on the Maeve top is $69.

Valeska (on the far left), having just returned from traveling abroad to Lebanon and Columbia, was not exhibiting any jet lag at the party, but rather was warm and friendly towards the crowd of Mafia Style fashionistas!

Bikini Squeeze

No, this is not a posting on a fashion blog with pictures of a woman who has had 3 children.  #PHEW

It is a posting on a fashion blog about how summer doesn’t end until September 21, and the weather is all about bathing suits and not so much about suede and wool.  So why not do a little bikini shopping to help soothe the sadness you are feeling over the kiddos going back to school today?  tee hee

reversecommuter was recently in Italy and THE trend is all about the ruffle bikini with a flossy bottom!

Bikini Lovers from Italy (seriously, could there be a better name?) is a GORGEOUS line of brilliant prints and bright fun happy colors sprinkled throughout a phenomenal bikini line of ruffles and butt floss (start doing those squats while reading this!).

There is even an accompanying diaper cover baby bottom line – adorable!!!!

Almamia from Columbia is a line that every woman should buy from.

Not only are the bikinis BEYOND BEAUTIFUL but they are hand made by an army of 80 single mothers, how ridiculously amazing is that?!

Oh, and this is what they create.  #WOAH

Get that new suit, lather up the SPF and go outside and play!

Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me, I won’t tell the children this is what we mamas really do when they are at school!

Boatload of Bikinis!

Living on a boat for a week demands a fairly specific suitcase.

Australia’s Triangl is set to hit $60 MILLION in sales this year.  Not too shabby for a newly engaged couple who started the neoprene bikini biz after their second date!

Triangl bikinis are only about $90 US and come in a neon rainbow of styles and colors!

Marysia Swim is a new line on reversecommuter’s bikini radar.  Scalloped details and brilliant styling make this designer someone to watch!

Marysia Swim’s founder,  Marysia Dobrzanska Reeves is also a surfer so it is safe to assume that her designs will stay on in the water!

E. I. E. I. Woah!

Summer dressing just got a lot easier!

O.W.O. City/Beach Style

Ever been to a busy bustling city that has a sandy beach one block away from your hotel?

reversecommuter is experiencing this strange phenomenon right now in Chicago…and liking it!

P.S. Completely addicted to the contents of this bottle.  Harmless Harvest’s Pink, raw, delicious coconut water (did you know it is better than sports drinks to replenish and rehydrate?).  Can you think of a better way to recover from the beach and strengthen up for shopping?!?!?

“Not As Flat As Her” – O.W.O.

Yup, some lady in a shop actually pointed to me and said that, LOUDLY, when describing to a salesperson the shape of her daughter.  Stellar Moment.

reversecommuter responded in an appropriate manner for a fashion blogger…

IMG_3746

Nothing like a teeny weeny Italian bikini to make a girl grateful for her “limitations”.

O.W.O.

reversecommuter was in a bikini or a cover-up all weekend.

Attacking the monster water slide (all day long!!!), made me appreciate investing in a well made bathing suit!

Merci beaucoup Shan!

Abaya Babes

Visiting Dubai was truly the experience of a lifetime!

Architecture that defies gravity and redefines structure…

Dub6

The Gold Souk – a gold market overflowing with all things 18 & 24K, intricately woven necklaces, rings, bracelets, and charms being hawked in fluorescent lit shops by deal promising Arabs…

Dub4

Visiting Dubai was also learning experience, one in culture and as a result I now have a new appreciation for the Abaya, the black cloak worn in public by Muslim women.

DSC_0019 2

Researching the cultural restrictions prior to leaving, reversecommuter was WORRIED about what part of my wardrobe I would actually be able to wear in Dubai (click here to revisit).  According to Muslim customs, Western women should have everything from the shoulders to the knees covered in public.   Uh…that eliminates my entire summer wardrobe.  Truly.

Dub1

Once I arrived in Dubai I noticed that Westerners were taking the dress code quite lightly.  As in Daisy Dukes, revealing sloppy tank tops and mini skirts galore.  All of a sudden the Abaya approach seemed to offer an element of class and grace. Prior to Dubai, the Abaya symbolized oppression and control to me. Dubai taught me that  it’s Abaya wearing women, who by the way compliment the black cloak with 6 inch towering Dior electric blue stiletto sandals, Chanel and Louis Vuitton handbags, expertly applied kohl pencil cats’ eyes, eyelash extensions and brilliantly painted talons, carried themselves with a quiet sophistication and femininity rarely delivered by the yoga pant uniform that has swept across the U.S.  Flashes of designer jeans and flowing wide leg linen pants peeked out of the abayas, gold belts synched the waists, and even the cloaks themselves were sometimes adorned with lace, Swarovski crystals and peekaboo organza patches.

Dub2

Poolside I was grateful for the Western summer uniform of a bikini, and the discomfort potential of a black cloak in 100+ degree desert heat is not something reversecommuter will be signing up for anytime soon, but thanks to Dubai’s Muslim women, I now have a new respect and appreciation for the Abaya adorned, with their grace, confidence and air of quiet superiority to the oafy daisy duked.

A small selection of reversecommuter’s Shan collection

Please don’t undermine the intensity of my decision making process.  The wrong selection could deeply affect my beach time…(not really).

The navy blue python tassel bikini it is!  Although the raspberry is still calling my name…

Shan delivers variety in every collection, with material, cut and style but fit is never an issue, always exactly as expected.  Hit the blue to go to Shan.ca and take in all of the 2014 Collection – both men’s and women’s, fyi!

souplesse_celeste_2_3

I haven’t tried Shan’s full piecers yet – at what time of your life do you bid adieu to the bikini – or do you? But that alas, is an entirely different conversation to be posted some other time!  😉
