Bring on the LOOOOOONG Choco-Bunny Weekend!
“It’s good to have goals.” – One of reversecommuter’s favorite mantras, and it appears the same can be said for The Gap Inc. in regards to China. Gap has 81 stores in China and is planning on adding 30 more shops this year. Gap Inc. will probably consider introducing additional Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta stores into China in the next 2 years.
The Gap wants to reach $1BILLION in sales in China by 2017. How do you say “Khaki’s Everywhere” in Mandarin?
reversecommuter mini-rant (* DIRECT bi-product of being cooped inside since Sunday with sick stomach flu children – apologies!)
The world’s total clothing spenditure is $1.4 Trillion. If Gap Inc. hits $1 Billion by 2017, reversecommuter shudders to think how very similar everyone’s outfits will be. At the risk of ranting (on a Fashion & Finance Friday no less!), fashion is not about looking like everyone else, nor is it about mass producing inexpensive, poor quality clothing – that puts garment workers in developing countries at risk.
King Karl once again proves his regal worthiness.
Despite the shared opinion of reversecommuter and Karl Lagerfeld (um, how much fun was that sentence to write?!?!?), it seems as though the fashion world’s love of all things workout-y is expanding. How is it that the suburban masses of yoga pant uniformed housewives are influencing Paris, Milan, New York and London?!?!?! net-a-porter is rumored to be expanding the website into workout wear, Tory Burch is about to launch her workout line, and Lululemon is about to launch their “&Go” line of everyday clothing.

Tory Burch being “influenced” by recognizing a lot of women wear their gym clothes all day makes reversecommuter once again ask “how is she considered a leading designer in fashion?”. And if designers waive the white flag and surrender their creativity based on the bored masses in their yoga pants and unkept ponytails, this era will be more horrific than the 80’s shoulder pad debacle.
reversecommuter appreciates gorgeous, stylish workout clothing probably more than most, perfect example is this adidas by Stella McCartney top I just nabbed on net-a-porter.com, but I will be wearing it to work out in, and then I will shower, float around on my endorphin high and change into other clothes!
Easter Weekend is upon us, get ready for happy, giggly children, pastel outfits, chocolate bunnies, egg hunts, family time, sugar highs, and Easter bonnet parades (my absolute favorite Bill Cunningham spread in the New York Times Fashion section of all year!!!!).
Dress up, smile for all you have and add some champs to that glass of o.j. at Easter Brunch!
