Style Mafia Bella!

Miami Swim Week.  What part of that statement doesn’t deliver excitement?

A beach lined city of pulsating music, bikini clad models strutting the newest swimwear lines on floating swimming pool runways, Latino energy and fashion, fashion, fashion.

I may never go home.  Seriously.

One event reversecommuter was lucky enough to attend was Coast’s rooftop party presenting a handpicked lot of designers and their incredible lines.  Designers included Acid NYC, Luxchillas, YannaK and Style Mafia.

Style Mafia is a Miami based line of beautifully designed clothing, incredible craftsmanship and seriously ridiculous-in-the-good-way pricing.

Ruffles, pinstripes, off-the-shoulder tops, cropped frayed pants, scalloped tanks and tops, flirty crop tops and nautical striped flowing tops in a clever color assortment.

Valeska and Simmonett Perera are the mother/ daughter masterminds behind Style Mafia.  Creating a line that didn’t break the bank yet still delivered trend on fashion was the absolute goal.

No exaggeration, I saw the Maeve top in yellow and thought it was Fendi.  The price on the Maeve top is $69.

Valeska (on the far left), having just returned from traveling abroad to Lebanon and Columbia, was not exhibiting any jet lag at the party, but rather was warm and friendly towards the crowd of Mafia Style fashionistas!

“Springter” Outerwear

Sun is out, blue skies are trying to peek through and snow is STILL on the ground.  This season has officially been dubbed SPRINGTER!

Winter jackets are so yesterday – even if the temperature still dips into scary cold territory every other day.  Layer it up and put away the puffer coats!

Veronica Beard’s dickie jacket offers the perfect solution.  Blazer with interchangeable dickies that adapt as the season changes.  Right now the obvious choice is their luxuriously warm Upstate woolen dickie.

As the snow melts (and it eventually will…) switch over to something a little less wooly and a little more fun such as Veronica Beard’s Tech Camo hoodie #LOVESWOONLOVE!  No big surprise these gorgeous sisters-in-law were made CFDA members.

Another fun SPRINGTER option is a trench coat.  But why not mix it up a little with a brilliant yellow Michael Lo Sordo silk satin trench?

This Australian designer has an unspoken elegance mixed with a wink of sporty fun in his designs that BEG to be worn and worn and worn until worn out completely!

Finally there is the classic trench option.  Burberry’s hooded taffeta trench coach isn’t just fun to say but equally fun to wear!

The best option for the budgetarily impaired would be Zara’s cropped cotton trench at $149.  The short cut mixes up a classic just enough to allow for a spring in your step!

Warm Spumoni

How is it already happening?

It is cold enough that burying your face in the clean clothes fresh out of the dryer feels like a spa treatment.  A stretch I know, but reversecommuter really hates the cold!

A solid plan is needed to make it through winter 2014/15, and this plan is called “Operation Bright Coat“.  How bad can a snow storm really be if my coat is a fashionable bright beacon?

Can a polar vortex play havoc with circulation if my coat is screaming happy-color-coded-cashmere thoughts?  I think not.

Scattered throughout this post are some of the semi-final contestants of the “I’m reversecommuter’s new spumoni inspired winter coat!“, (really exciting big contest in some parts).  Just click on the picture to go shopping, and try not to focus on the ice cream reference.  🙂

Budget Friendly Tip of the Day: don’t forget to check out the daily deals on some of the shopping sites such as Gilt.com and RueLaLa.com.

Totally stole this hat from my four year old’s closet (Baby Gap, not just regular Gap!).

$12 Pants & Alexander McQueen

No lie.  $12 H&M pants.

Topped with my current favorite white button down, a thick collared Alexander McQueen.

In a salute to Sharon Stone, the queen of High/Low Fashion – at the 1996 Oscar’s she wore a black Gap turtleneck with a Valentino skirt, and at the 1998 Oscar’s she donned a Vera Wang skirt and a Gap button down (that she borrowed from her husband’s closet!!).

Kind of empowering to mix it up and respect the budget too!
