NYFW a la ‘burbs

There was a pity party happening in the suburbs.
Fashion blogger and style editor couldn’t go to NYFW. Too many commitments in my other role as a mom.
Luckily Vogue.com, instagram and the grooviest online fashion feeds allow me the super human combination of being super mama and fashion obsessed blogger all in a day’s work!

Truly all my technological fashion feeds are in direct thanks to Christopher Bailey, the CEO and design director of Burberry.

Christopher changed fashion forever when he permitted a live feed of his fashion show in February 2010.  Before this landmark event fashion shows were strictly for buyers and editors and certainly NOT for suburban moms!

The greatest luxury is being able to watch live video feeds of the shows (hello phenomenal new playlists!!!), translate the fashions into suburban mom-speak and write posts for the blog, news sites and magazine, all while running the corporation of home, husband and children!

This was Alexander Wang’s gift to his New York audience, along with his return to street wear FIERCE collection, British rapper Lady Leshurr.

Seriously add it to your workout playlist NOW!

Other designers tapped it back in the form of nineties artists, Willie Nelson and of course using the appropriately titled “begging for threads” tee hee!

Tune in tomorrow for a posting dedicated to the simplicity of Spring 2016 Fashion.  Imagine that!

Top 5 Vacation Dresses

One thing in common with all 5 of these choices – can be rolled up in  a ball then shaken out, add havianas or a stellar pair of Loubies, wear with children and still manage to be all put together!

1. Rick Owens

reversecommuter found this dress and immediately bought it in 2 different colors.  Draped, bias cut and absolutely rollable.

2. DVF

the queen of romp herself would approve of this choice – repeat after me, I can never go wrong packing a wrap dress.

3.  James Perse

Californian king of t-shirts just grab one of his long tank dresses or rushed mid-length dresses and go!

4.  Alexander Wang

this classic sheer paneled dress comes in light and dark colors and even in a shirt silhouette, clearly recognizing a good thing can come in different shapes & sizes.

5.  ETRO

the Italian design house that creates tapestry like no other can dream without hallucinogenic assistance once again proves that a combo cover-up / fabulous evening dress makes for a lighter suitcase…all the better to fill up at the duty free!

Random Acts of Sparkliness!

Sequins have been reversecommuter’s party piece of choice this Holiday Season!

Sparkly Skirts & Shorts…but no pants.

reversecommuter was SNAFUED this season in her hunt for gold sequin leggings (sounds MUCH tackier than in reality!!).  The closest I could find were these Donna Karan silver leggings at Neimans, close but no cigar.

Fendi’s Christmas Ornaments lit up 5th Avenue in NYC and I just had to add them to this Sparkly post!

Fendi

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and thank you so very much for always taking the time to read reversecommuter!   Here is hoping that Santa spoils you silly!!!!!!!!

Worth Every Penny

reversecommuter has a new man in her life…the cobbler.

cobbler

Perhaps one too many struts across the cobblestone streets of Boston is to blame, but some of my heels need some love!

shoes

Ironically the cobbler visit made me realize that investing in great quality, designer pieces really is a wise choice.  Proper care (ie new lifts on the heels) only extends the life and encourages the same type of investments.

Good Shoe Rules:

1. NEVER be the girl who goes “TICKTICKTICK” across the floor (it means the nail head is exposed & you need new lifts)

2. When the red wears off the soles, it’s time to replace the Loubies!

$12 Pants & Alexander McQueen

No lie.  $12 H&M pants.

Topped with my current favorite white button down, a thick collared Alexander McQueen.

In a salute to Sharon Stone, the queen of High/Low Fashion – at the 1996 Oscar’s she wore a black Gap turtleneck with a Valentino skirt, and at the 1998 Oscar’s she donned a Vera Wang skirt and a Gap button down (that she borrowed from her husband’s closet!!).

Kind of empowering to mix it up and respect the budget too!

She Wears Short Shorts….

Every mama’s wardrobe needs a little leather…

especially if she is trapped in the ‘burbs!

Don’t shy away from leather shorts.  Add heels and an open back top.

Nothing wrong with introducing the unexpected!

Classic Confusion!

One would think that going away for a weekend to Palm Beach with HH would be wonderful!  (it was).  But the weather was not exactly “beachy”…

Luckily it was Palm Beach – Worth Avenue is one of reversecommuter’s all-time fave streets!!!!  So while the rain drizzled down, a little shoe shopping for a new pair of classic black patent platform pumps occurred at Saks.

After INTENSE RESEARCH the conclusion is that Christian Louboutin has the most comfortable, sexy pair on the market…and is now happily habituating in my shoe closet!
(click the picture to be taken directly to the shoe department at Sak’s!)

Gucci had the best price, and a pretty shoe to boot!
(click the pic and buy the Gucci @ Saks)

Manolo Blahnik doesn’t make a platform, but a pair of Manolo’s is never a bad purchase!
(click the picture and visit the Manolo Blahnik cutie at Sak’s)

Jimmy Choo makes a darn sexy shoe, but a 5 1/2″ heel is just a little too scary!
(click the pic, go to Saks, buy the Jimmy Choos!)

While dangling dangerously off the balcony in my hotel room (LOL), I am wearing leopard pants from Zara, tank by Alexander Wang, Russian Navy OPI nail color, and a very sleepy look on my face!
