Fashion and Finance Friday!

Thank the heavens above, the week is done!  Now if only the deep freeze would thaw….

Ralphie has done it again!  Ralph Lauren unveiled the US Olympic Team uniforms yesterday and they are purdy!!!!!!!  (having said that, reversecommuter is still SO UBER OBSESSED with Austria’s Olympic Uniforms from Bogner – click here to salivate!)

This video from Ralph Lauren tells the story of a wool producer from an Oregan ranch that has been a family owned business for over 140 years.  It is a beautiful vignette and instills immediate patriotism!

In the video the narrator comments on the friendliness of the NYC Ralph Lauren design team.  reversecommuter had the pleasure of working with these designers a few years back and I can personally vouch for the warmth, design skills and energy offered from this fashion mammoth.

Ralph Lauren should be commended for their creativity, design and vision of delivering the athletes uniforms that are completely designed and produced in the USA.

Instagram as a science project?  Instagram has been helping a tech firm named Olapic and professors at the University of Wisconsin study marketing and the relationship between photos and online sales (file under SUPER cool!).  According to their findings the colors yellow and blue increase sale.  The filters available on Instagram and other photo apps influence emotional reaction to the pictures.

And here you thought your favorite filter option just made your skin glow a little more!  Olapic counts Steve Madden, Bumble and bumble, Gilt, Coach, NastyGal, Veuve Cliquot and Vineyard Vines as clients who turn to them to pull Instagram pics from users into marketing data and mine it to increase sales.

Speaking of Instagram (nice segway huh?!), please follow reversecommuter at http://instagram.com/reversecommuter (click it to go right there!).

Pop the champs, ignore the snow and wear your most gorgeous shoes and celebrate every single minute (they all really do count!).

Hello End of the Week!

Lord & Taylor logo

Is nothing sacred?  Lord & Taylor’s 5th Avenue flagship store is going to open for business on Thanksgiving!  Let’s hope the Macy’s parade doesn’t drop off it’s employees by float to work a shift or two to compete…

reversecommuter used to live in Toronto, and Sundays were retail non grata days, it was a family day.  Then a couple of retailers fought hard enough and soon Sunday was just another day to hit the stores.  Let’s hope major holidays don’t become a thing of the past!

Coach logo

Coach & The Jones Group both released very positive numbers for Q3 – let’s hear it for the  non-luxury goods sector kicking it!

And now back to luxury…

Versace opened a cool new store, Versace Vibe this past week in SOHO – big BIG party! Dior opened up two STELLAR boutiques in as many weeks – one in Milan and one on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.  Louis Vuitton opened it’s first Brazilian boutique this week.  Alexander McQueen opened it’s first men’s only boutique in London, and there are creative plans to launch new retail for men and women and McQ!

Happy Happy Weekend!

Helllllllllo Sunny Gorgeous Weekend!

Very cool development on the internet – the first 1930 applications have been submitted to ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) for gTLDs (generic top level domains).  HUH?  In other words, uber cool fashion house Chanel has applied to have it’s new url end in .chanel as opposed to .com.  Other companies listed include L’Oreal, Coach, Nike, Gucci, Target, ZARA, Wal-Mart and Chloe.  Each application comes with a $185,000.00 fee, and so far ICANN has received $350 MILLIONl!

hmmmmm, reversecommuter.reversecommuter?  🙂

Seven For All Mankind is launching “Slim Illusion” denim mixed with soy protein which will deliver improved stretch and a better recovery process.  What this means is fewer women will be seen pulling up their belt hoops when they get out of the car!  The Slim Illusion Twill will be introduced in the Fall, will come in a rainbow of colors such as blackberry, ginger and lagoon,  and will sell for $168.00 US.  The process is from Japan, and the fabric supplier is top secret.

reversecommuter is off to NYC for the weekend and is SO EXCITED!!!!!!  (watch for more on that in later posts)

Have a fab weekend!
