Fortuna for Us!

Fortuna is the Roman Goddess of luck, and is the inspiration for Diane von Furstenberg’s Spring 2016 Collection just unveiled at NYFW.

DVF_LAFortuna-blog

This was the first painting Diane ever bought, it hangs in her bedroom and represents freedom, nature, beauty and individuality, and luckily for us brought forth this dazzling collection.

The Spring 2016 DVF Collection delivered bright colors (hot pinks, turquoise, white, gold, navy blues, cherry pinks and golden yellows), textures and tassels a plenty and flowing goddess worthy dresses, crop pants and jumpsuits.

The greatest part of DVF is the woman herself.

She inspires greatness, she delivers beautifully crafted clothing that is approachable in price and her sexy effortless pieces are easily wearable in everyday life.

Move over Fortuna, there is a new goddess in town and her initials are DVF!

Dress Me Dolly

Mother’s Day is only 5 more sleeps!  Girls it is time to plan your Brunch outfit.

IMG_8418

Mother’s Day Brunch means getting everyone else clean, dressed and wrestling the boys into the dreaded blazer!  Doesn’t leave a lot of time for preening and primping.

Solution – the dress.  One piece.  Pull it on over your head and go.  This is good.  Here are a few front runners in reversecommuter’s humble opinion.  Click the pic to buy it.

Fashion & Finance Friday!

I will not comment about the weather.

I will not comment about the weather.

I will not comment about the weather.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Winter demands creativity.  Activities of the indoor persuasion become highly desirable.  Feeling culturally fancy in a fashion history kind of way?  GREAT!  There are four bastions of fashion that are currently on exhibit in museums around the world.

Lanvin, specifically the grande dame herself, Jeanne Lanvin, who founded the fashion house in 1889, is being feted in Paris at the Palais Galleria until August 23rd.

Lanvin at the Palais Galliera

Alber Elbez refused to submit any of his Lanvin designs for the exhibit so as to emphasize the simplistic beauty of fashion design being that of a seamstress and her hands, and it also displays the continuum of the style of Lanvin that Alber delivers.

Ralph Pucci is sharing some of his mannequins in NYC the end of March.  Specifically in an exhibit at The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD).

PUCCI_MAIN_IMAGE_02A

Pucci the designer was initially a mannequin sculptor, creating some of the most beautiful, curvaceous, ethnic and socially representative mannequins from the 1970’s through to today. His mannequins have been dressed by DVF, Anna Sui and many others.

Speaking of the 70’s, The Fashion Institute of Technology’s Museum in NYC, is hosting an exhibit showcasing Yves Saint Laurent and Haltson’s work that defined the sexy groovy vibe of 70’s fashion.

YSL_Halston_96.84.8_80.71.55_20140624_01_375

Think Studio 54 fashion, some of them donated by Tina Chow, Lauren Bacall and Paloma Picasso – imagine diving into those closets!!!!

YSL_Halston_91.41.12_P89.55.4_20140709_01_375

The clothing is iconic and timeless yet at the same time clearly represents the 70’s, which is an absolute testimony and tribute to their talents.

Nike obliterates the competition with their technology and reverse commuter is the proud owner (and creator) of possibly THE SICKEST b-ball shoes ever thanks to NikeID.

Nike brand president Trevor Edwards has pushed the technology envelope since joining Nike in June 2012, and one of the company’s target areas is women.

O.W.O. City Spitter Style

From beach to city.

spit3Traveling means fashion that rolls up into a suitcase, then rolls out unwrinkled, and works no matter the weather.  Darker colors are always a good idea when a tourist!  James Perse, Alexander Wang, Jonathan Simkhai and Diane von Furstenberg are all masters at this.

Chicago’s Millenium Park has the coolest art installation/fountain, the Crown Fountain, created by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, and funded by a multimillion dollar donation from the Crown Family…thus the name.  It consists of two LED walls that run 1000 videos of a variety of Chicagoans, all of whom were instructed to smile, frown, and then pretend to blow out a candle.

When that happens a spout sprays out a canon of water – much to the delight of anyone close enough to get sprayed!

Tom Ford is frowning.  Or at least he could if he wants to.  The newly married daddy has decided to stop getting Botox and fillers and just age naturally, and he is blaming it on his son and the lack of time in his schedule now that he is a dad.  Yet another reason reverse commuter LOVES Tom Ford!!!  (see reversecommuter’s original Top 10 here)
