WildFox Foxy

reversecommuter has a thing for WILDFOX, and no, I have not suddenly embraced furry suburban critters.

This Los Angeles based, Malibu-centric clothing line is the perfect definition of sexy beachy comfy.  Collections such as Barbie Dream House, Astrology, Gypsy and Sense & Eccentricity are making my UPS delivery dude (aka Brown Santa) fit and trim during the winter months.

Even in the depths of winter a little WILDFOX is so cute it can transport you to a sunny spot!  My current fave reads “the beach is my happy spot”.

Accurate.

WILDFOX also has a children’s line too immediately upping the cuteness factor.

I even found an impressive selection of WILDFOX when visiting Dubai in April 2014, reversecommuter was directed to a fabulous boutique,  boutique1, by an equally fabulous blogging friend of mine, Mitzie Mee.

Yes, the driveway needs to be shoveled, AGAIN, but at least now you can throw on a piece from WILDFOX and pretend the snow is sand!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Greetings & Salutations to the Weekend!!!!!

Timing is everything!  Yes, reversecommuter got to take camel selfies and shop at Chanel in Dubai in April, but I completely botched the opportunity to attend the 2014 Chanel Cruise Collection held in Dubai on May 13th.

Camel Selfie!

The CHA CHA appreciative Dubai audience was appropriately quilted, double C jewelry and bel adorn, and there were also a few black abayas, scarved heads (Chanel scarves obvi!), and some Keffiyehs scattered amongst the audience sitting upon pillows on the ground of the most glamorous tent ever created complete with indoor palm trees and shishas!

The fashion seemed perfectly tailored for the U.A.E. crowd, with veils, Chanel’s diamond encrusted crescent moon hair clips, gold lamè pants, the obligatory fabulous tweed, pearl dotted quilted bags and sunglasses and oodles of Kurta pajama inspired skinny pants.

Chanel’s 2014 Cruise collection (available in October fyi!), went far beyond beautiful – it was like watching a magical performance of Alladin meets Lawrence of Arabia, complete with the best transe filled soundtrack. King Karl said that Dubai is “…interesting and exciting…the modern thought of the world… mix of the old world and the new world…it is the 21st Century Chanel.  Dubai is the home of the tallest buildings in the world, it was time for an Oriental revival.”  BRAVO KING KARL!!

Rumor on the money street is that there may be a takeover in the works for Lululemon.  The yoga pant machine has been suffering with low stock price, bumbling ex-CEO quotes insulting the curvaceous qualities of Lulu’s army of size 12+ devotees, and a couple of falsely labelled bamboo/not-bamboo pants headlines.

Some potential interested parties include NIKE, V.F. (as in Splendid, Ella Moss, Wrangler…) and even Columbia Sportswear.    Goes without saying this fashion blogger is doing a happy dance over the potential demise of the company responsible for the SINGLE WORST fashion trend to fall upon our society!  Toodles everyday lazy uniform of yoga pants, hello sportswear for sports!

Bellinis for everyone at least once this weekend!

First Date in Dubai

reversecommuter had a first date in Dubai last week.

DSC_0056

It was not with a camel.

It was with Mitzee Mee, a gorgeous, funny, extremely well traveled blogger (click the blue to visit her fab travel and lifestyle blog).  Mitzee Mee lives in Dubai (lucky), used to be a pilot (lucky), is married to a pilot (lucky) and is busy planning her summer trips (lucky!!).

As mentioned in a previous posting, reversecommuter was concerned about packing appropriate clothing to wear in a predominantly Muslim city.  This Alexander Wang dress was my most risque choice, above the knees and with sheer paneling.  Full disclosure, it was my last night in Dubai and we met at an outdoor bar at my hotel.

Thanks for the pic Mitzee Mee!

fyi O.W.O. is back next week.

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Helloooooo Fabulous Friday!

reversecommuter is going to deliver Fashion & Finance Friday with a little Arab flair today – one last hurrah for Dubai!

Dubai is responsible for 40% of the world’s gold trade, and after visiting the Gold Souk in the old part of the city, I conquer.  The value of the physical gold traded in Dubai is $75 MILLION, which explains the wealth that is displayed in the city’s infrastructure, architecture, inhabitants and their fashion!

Gold Souk

And where better to spend some of that gold trade money but The Mall of the Emirates. The MoE (my acronym) is the 7th most lucrative shopping mall in the world.  The 2.5 MILLION square foot mall, (of which reversecommuter walked quite a few) is host to numerous designer boutiques including Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Cartier, Celine, Chanel, Fendi, Gucci etc etc etc.

MoE & Me!

MoE & Me!

Over 535 international stores can be found in the mall, as well as an indoor ski resort, Ski Dubai, as well as over 95 restaurants and two hotels.  The Mall of the Emirates also offers world class fashion & people watching – honestly what more could you ask for?!

Just be aware of the MoE’s interesting “Courtesy Policy”.

The

Abaya Babes

Visiting Dubai was truly the experience of a lifetime!

Dub5

Camel rides on the beach…

Architecture that defies gravity and redefines structure…

Dub6

The Gold Souk – a gold market overflowing with all things 18 & 24K, intricately woven necklaces, rings, bracelets, and charms being hawked in fluorescent lit shops by deal promising Arabs…

Dub4

Visiting Dubai was also learning experience, one in culture and as a result I now have a new appreciation for the Abaya, the black cloak worn in public by Muslim women.

DSC_0019 2

Researching the cultural restrictions prior to leaving, reversecommuter was WORRIED about what part of my wardrobe I would actually be able to wear in Dubai (click here to revisit).  According to Muslim customs, Western women should have everything from the shoulders to the knees covered in public.   Uh…that eliminates my entire summer wardrobe.  Truly.

Dub1

Once I arrived in Dubai I noticed that Westerners were taking the dress code quite lightly.  As in Daisy Dukes, revealing sloppy tank tops and mini skirts galore.  All of a sudden the Abaya approach seemed to offer an element of class and grace. Prior to Dubai, the Abaya symbolized oppression and control to me. Dubai taught me that  it’s Abaya wearing women, who by the way compliment the black cloak with 6 inch towering Dior electric blue stiletto sandals, Chanel and Louis Vuitton handbags, expertly applied kohl pencil cats’ eyes, eyelash extensions and brilliantly painted talons, carried themselves with a quiet sophistication and femininity rarely delivered by the yoga pant uniform that has swept across the U.S.  Flashes of designer jeans and flowing wide leg linen pants peeked out of the abayas, gold belts synched the waists, and even the cloaks themselves were sometimes adorned with lace, Swarovski crystals and peekaboo organza patches.

Dub2

Poolside I was grateful for the Western summer uniform of a bikini, and the discomfort potential of a black cloak in 100+ degree desert heat is not something reversecommuter will be signing up for anytime soon, but thanks to Dubai’s Muslim women, I now have a new respect and appreciation for the Abaya adorned, with their grace, confidence and air of quiet superiority to the oafy daisy duked.

Jetlagged!

reversecommuter is a little sleepy after a lovely 14 hour flight home from Dubai.

Enjoy the flipagram and I’ll see you tomorrow!
