Favorite Parisian Drugstore Buys

Trips to Paris do not have to cost a lot of money.  Small pharmacy purchases are the secret, (aka les Petits Objets).

Some of my favorite purchases are made at the pharmacy. And that is a budget friendly store found on many Parisian corners.  There is something so fun about searching through a drugstore that is not a cvs and seems somehow so glamorous, how stereotypically French is that?  As French as a French poodle wearing his Goyard collar!

Marvis toothpaste is a must, especially at half the price that it is in the US.

Klorane hair products are some of my absolute favorites.  Blondes love the camomile line, but there are a multitude of options available.  Mango butter shampoo anyone?  Yummaroo!

Klorane is a natural plant based hair care company, and one of those lines that actually delivers immediate improvement to your hair.  ❤ that!

Nuxe body oil is pure magic.  I always stock up on it in Paris as half price is better than full – plus it leaves more euros for other purchases.  Nuxe is the only after shower oil that saves me from New England winter dry skin.

Et voila!

Hey Sailor

Navy and white stripes.  Simple. Classic.  Clean.  Always in style.

There is a reason the French line Saint James is constantly being “discovered”, even though the fisherman sweater was first created in the 19th century.  The line is currently being touted at J Crew, as well as their own online shop.

This is a great look year round, not just summer.  Add a jean jacket on top of this dress and it can work up until the leaves change and fall off the trees.

By far my favorite bag right now is my tiny little Chloe mini Marcie bag.  Cross shoulder, holds my phone (barely), keys, a couple of credit cards and my Kiehl’s tub of lip balm.  The best part of free hands is allowing more hand holding!

Shan Meeting!

Ever met someone you worship?  Someone who has captured your attention for a really long time and has definitely achieved hero like rockstar status?

reversecommuter recently met the Founder and Ceo of Shan Swimwear.  Can you tell in the pic that I am completely geeking out?!

Chantal Levesque is literally my Mick Jagger.  Her swimwear and designs have mesmerized me for over a decade.

I saved up to buy my first Shan bikini (red, kind of James Bond-ie) to take on my honeymoon.  My husband recently bought me a new red Shan bikini and told me it reminded him of the honeymoon one.  #whattheheckisbetterthanthat  #hunkahunkaburninglove

Shan swimwear is that good.  The styles and designs are impactful and beautiful.  Chantal knows what women like to wear, and how it should fit.  “Quality and design are always the most important details of the line”, this is not only Chantelle’s mantra but it also delivered in every collection.

Trust me, I have bought from almost every Shan collection over the past fifteen years!

Chantal has built up the company from the early days when she herself pulled the pigments out of the prints to create the colors for the collection.  “Sometimes it took at least 5 attempts to pull the perfect hue.”  Now she has “a great team in place” and doesn’t need to work around the clock.  But she still overseas the pallet and colors pulled for each collection.

Shan Spring 2017 might just be her very best.  One collection, “Do You think I’m sexy” is sumptuous, luxurious and subtly infused with classical French couture allure.

Moves like Jagger!

Mom Speak Fashion Translation

Versace’s Fall Couture 2015 was etheral.  The best dressed rockstar fairies ever!

_VER0934

Chanel’s Fall 2015 Couture was terrifically tweedy and fantastically luxe.

_024_CHA0385

But what exactly are moms’ supposed to wear to go pick raspberries?

IMG_9300

We deal with runny noses, messy love filled hugs and toppled ice cream cone sticky kisses.  Donatella and Karl don’t really design for these.

IMG_9301

reversecommuter adores high end fashion, and loves translating it into everyday speak.  Fashion is fun, not intimidating.  Fall Couture’s message thus far is a softer color palate and a more classic take on clothes.  But it is summer now, so brighten up your outfits with some color and a smile!  Slap on a pair of silk shorts and a tank top, grab a cute pair of sandals and a floppy hat and work that runway of life like nobody’s business!

Girl Crush with a side of Ruffles!

Rosie Assoulin is my designer girl crush.

IMG_8968

reversecommuter has coveted from afar her designs, her creativity and her crazy cool ruffles since she launched her line in 2014.

The 2015 CFDA WINNER earned her fashion wings under such designer legends as Oscar de la Renta and Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz.

Are you beginning to appreciate the master level of the ruffled wonder?

Brilliant colors, cuts that flow and billow, pants that beg for a surfboard while simultaneously sashaying down a runway.  The elements Rosie incorporates into her clothing illustrates her ease in identifying the women who she designs for – moms, wives, professionals, busy whatevers with complicated lives who LOVE fashion.

Rosie’s bff is none other than Leandra Medine, übererest of all über fashion bloggers.  Leandra wears Rosie beautifully, by incorporating the high end line into low priced pieces from her closet.

reversecommuter is willing to share a teeny tiny fraction of Rosie’s wonderfulness with you.  Invest in a piece or two or twelve and be confident knowing your Rosie will look fantabulous now, next year and the years after that!

Coachella, which started in 1999, has evolved into a fashion statement as much as a music festival, so it really does make perfect sense for the fashion world to start paying attention! Click here to see what a Coachella Mama wears!

Net-a-porter and Chanel have teamed up for the very first time to launch Coco Crush, a collection of fine jewelry that will be available online at net-a-porter.com for a three week period.  Click here to sign up for shopping, and mark your calendars for April 15th.

Speaking of Chanel – and what prettier, quiltier, chain-strapped topic is there?  Chanel shoppers in China are very pleased with the price adjustments Chanel made on April 8th.  Click here to read more about this from an earlier post.

A 20% price drop is WAY significant and it might just seem like Chanel is having a sale in Shanghai today!

Enjoy the weekend – go get a pedicure and wear those fabulous strappy shoes (that have been buried in the back of the closet all winter), while sipping champs on a patio!

C Day!

C as in Chanel.  The day is question is today, April 8th.  Today is the day that Chanel increases prices on it’s classic bags by 25% worldwide, decreases prices in China by 20%, initiates a leveling of merchandise to it’s customers and delivers a nod of “merci beaucoup” to Chanel’s established French clientele.

ls

Chanel’s boutiques in Paris enjoyed a two week business boom which created such a throng as 30 people deep line-ups across the city of light.  Indeed, what would Coco say to such behavior?

IMG_7844

One saleslady at the rue de Montagne store said she had never seen such crowds but then again “had never experienced such a sale at Chanel.”  The ‘sale’ was announced by a March 17 Chanel press release and the luxury fashion shopping throngs embarked on planes from Saudi Arabia, Dubai, China, and the US.

Why not enjoy the suddenly strong US dollar, the VAT return and the increased inventory and selection along with a stunning burgundy, a bowl of mussels and a crepe?  Currently the cost of a pair of Chanel patent leather ballet flats in the US is $780, Paris offers them for 400 euro, and the tax back as you leave Europe.  Who wouldn’t want to enjoy a little Spring time in Paris shopping?

Unknown-1

The items affected April 8th will be Chanel’s Boy bag, the the 11.12 and the 2.55.

Unknown-2

The buttery leather, rare skins and multitude of ribbon wrapped chain straps are just the beginning.  Shoes, ready to wear and haute couture will all eventually be adjusted to offer a more level playing field for all the fans of the double C.

Sexy Lingerie Partout en Paris!

reversecommuter spent Easter in Paris and as a result I have come to conclusion that French women love their lingerie.  Like really love their lingerie.  As I am quite sure the French men do as well 😉  Maybe even like lingerie more than les patisseries (bakery).

paris

It is truly everywhere in Paris.   Walking about the Parisian streets one is suddenly in possession of a burning desire to buy MANY lacy, frilly pieces of lingerie in a great variety of colors and styles.  A neutral t-shirt bra did not make the shopping list AT ALL!

images

Printemps is a gorgeous, huge, designer stocked department store that has dedicated an entire floor just to frilly bits.  Beautiful, florals, bright hot pinks, seductive blacks, lacy, racy, frilly, sexy, sumptuous lingerie.

Aubade is one of reversecommuter’s favorite lingerie lines, and whenever I am in Europe I try to stock up due to better selection and price.  Their trademark lace up design is trés coquette (very flirty).

culotte-st-tropez-bahia-aubade

La Perla is another crowd pleaser that held major real estate in the Printemps store.  DROOLWORTHY lingerie.

USCFILPD906402_AZ0065_2

La Perla’s Everyday Essentials is a new line, softer pricing and ridiculously soft cotton.  reversecommuter has numerous pairs of the drawstring pants and tanks – makes for great post bubble bath hangout wear, comfy with a subtle side of sexy (and less than a pair of yoga pants).

CFILPD0010977_BN0001_1_1

There is also Princess Tam Tam, which has stand alone stores plus is in Printemps.  Great selection and even better prices.

19853

Sort of a sexier version of Victoria’s Secret, imagine that!

tumblr_mf3yudtSdy1rqapveo1_500

So here is a golden nugget of knowledge.  Lingerie makes the outfit.  It reminds you that  you are STILL the sexy little vixen you were before becoming a mother, a chauffeur, a cook, a laundress and a nose wiper extraordinaire.  So take a moment to tour the links littered throughout this post, and treat yourself (and the one you love) to a quick Parisian update to your wardrobe.

Fashion & Finance Friday!

I will not comment about the weather.

I will not comment about the weather.

I will not comment about the weather.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Winter demands creativity.  Activities of the indoor persuasion become highly desirable.  Feeling culturally fancy in a fashion history kind of way?  GREAT!  There are four bastions of fashion that are currently on exhibit in museums around the world.

Lanvin, specifically the grande dame herself, Jeanne Lanvin, who founded the fashion house in 1889, is being feted in Paris at the Palais Galleria until August 23rd.

Lanvin at the Palais Galliera

Alber Elbez refused to submit any of his Lanvin designs for the exhibit so as to emphasize the simplistic beauty of fashion design being that of a seamstress and her hands, and it also displays the continuum of the style of Lanvin that Alber delivers.

Unknown-1

Ralph Pucci is sharing some of his mannequins in NYC the end of March.  Specifically in an exhibit at The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD).

PUCCI_MAIN_IMAGE_02A

Pucci the designer was initially a mannequin sculptor, creating some of the most beautiful, curvaceous, ethnic and socially representative mannequins from the 1970’s through to today. His mannequins have been dressed by DVF, Anna Sui and many others.

image024

Speaking of the 70’s, The Fashion Institute of Technology’s Museum in NYC, is hosting an exhibit showcasing Yves Saint Laurent and Haltson’s work that defined the sexy groovy vibe of 70’s fashion.

YSL_Halston_96.84.8_80.71.55_20140624_01_375

Think Studio 54 fashion, some of them donated by Tina Chow, Lauren Bacall and Paloma Picasso – imagine diving into those closets!!!!

YSL_Halston_91.41.12_P89.55.4_20140709_01_375

The clothing is iconic and timeless yet at the same time clearly represents the 70’s, which is an absolute testimony and tribute to their talents.

So grab the kiddos, dress up so you don’t feel like a schlep in a puffer coat and hit the museums.  Gain a little culture and enjoy a celebratory glass of champs on your new found grey matter!

Don’t let the weather interrupt your fabulous weekend!!!!!!!!!!

Scarves & Car Singing

The little things in life really do make me ridiculously happy.

Case in point, my scarf that throws in some much needed sunshine at a time when the weather is dipping into scary-frostbite-freezing-zone (and yes, that is an actual made-up meteorological term!).

Don’t let the cold win. Grab a bright accessory that makes you sing in the car with wild abandon.  Click the pictures to get a bright scarf worth singing about!
