Straight Up

L’Oreal Paris has launched  Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight, a four step product line.  I have straight hair that has magically started to form weird kinky parts and curls that have never ever appeared before.  I wondered if this new line of hair care would unkink the kinks…

reversecommuter was asked to review the line, and that is where the fun started!

Step one – go to SoulCycle and workout like a fiend to get your hair really really really dirty!

ew…stinks and kinks…

Step 2 -Lather Up!  This is my cheeseball “and I’m worth it” pic

IMG_9183

Shampooing, an early morning art form!

The shampoo smells great (as does the entire line) and is not too heavy which is a good trait if you are not into the greasies.

Step 3 – No need to lather-rinse-repeat as there are 4 products to use…just move on to Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Boosting pre-conditioner

This step is new to me but seemed to enhance the conditioner when applied.  Not sure if it is necessary for me as my hair isn’t super curly just annoyingly kinky.

Step 4 – Conditioner

reversecommuter is a conditioner junkie – meaning there are usually two or three different bottles on the go at one time in a Goldilocks kind of approach : not too oily, not too heavy, not too light #pickypickypicky

L’Oreal Paris’ Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Straightening Conditioner smells like a bouquet of lilies, doesn’t feel oily or greasy and is not too heavy on the hair.

Step 5 – Styling Balm

I like the idea of the balm as a protector from the heat, and if it can help to unkink the weird kinks in my hair then this is one step I will be sure not to skip.

All in all I was impressed with the unkinking result Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight delivered, and even more impressed that it kept the kinks away for over 48 hours.

Geek Chic

Next time reversecommuter considers getting bangs someone please slap me hard to remind me of the really fun growing out phase that I am currently enjoying.

IMG_8601

Straight hair people have only just a few hair style choices.  Long or short.  Bangs or no bangs.   That is it.  Four possible outcomes.  Little wonder in the dark days of January 2015 I decided to throw caution to the Snowmageddon surroundings and go for bangs.

Unknown-2

I blame Brigitte Bardot.  Her fringe always look beach-wavy-just got-out-of-a-busy- steamy-rumpled-up-bed gorgeous kind of bangs.   Even Leandra Medine of Manrepeller fashion fame & fortune crumbled and got banged.

So I did what any self respecting bang-growing-out fashion obsessed type would do…I bobby binned those near blinding shaggy bits right out of sight.  Yup, a bobby pin.  Hence the nod to Geek Chic.

It works so don’t judge. When was the last time you solved a MAHJOR hair problem with something that costs 0.004?

The Big Bang!

What is it about January that begets BIG change in the hair department?

Every January, like clockwork, reversecommuter decides to mix it up.  Let’s keep in mind that this means DRASTIC change like…a trim…or maybe a few curls…or a side part.  WOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Easy does it Marcia Brady!

Blaming the cold weather is the perfect answer.  It’s SUPER cold, days are short, kinda trapped indoors like a poorly trained hibernator, if that doesn’t cue hair cut I don’t know what does!

Sienna Miller has bangs…

Jane Birkin arguably had THE best bangs…

Unknown-1

With a very close second place going to Bridget Bardot…

Unknown-2Adding bangs is a big change but at least it has been historically recognized as a lasting hair trend!

reversecommuter now has bangs.  Or as my 5 year old has dubbed them, “BING BANGS”.  Length is now a few inches shorter too – did you know that long hair should be trimmed every 8-12 weeks?

If nothing else, mixing up the order apres shower has made this frosty January fun and different – who knew you have to dry bangs quickly so as to avoid crazy hair?!?!?!?

Ms Manners has her opinion…

Unknown-2

“Fashion has retained the essence of the old-fashioned custom of a lady’s putting up her hair on reaching maturity by frequently assuring women that short hair is more flattering and more appropriate than long to anyone over twenty-five.”

Oy.

Or not…

Marie Antoinette said “Let Them Eat Cake!” IMG_0871 In the same vein I say “Let reversecommuter Wear Hermes!”… IMG_0868 in my hair… IMG_0867 if I have to do hours upon hours upon hours of Fun Laundry! IMG_0866

Yes, that is what I call it…it’s is a sad attempt at reverse psychology for reversecommuter!
