Fashion & Finance Friday!

EVERYBODY DANCE NOW – It’s Friday!!!

Pitbull has launched an Amazon.com exclusive fragrance collection for both men and women.  Coco Chanel’s parfumiers should be shaking in their tweed adorn boots…not.

Tom Ford hosted the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund dinner on Monday in New York, where Public School won this year’s top honor.  His speech was full of sound bites of advice, interestingly focusing in on the intense pace expected of designers, which was something another design team in the audience, Proenza Schouler, spoke of when reversecommuter attended an event at Boston’s ICA (click here for more).  With the Fall & Spring Collections now preceeded with PRE-Spring & Fall, plus Resort, the CHURN of fashion creativity offers a potential BURN that designers are well aware of.

Tom also told a fun story about walking on a nudist beach in St. Barth’s and running into Anna Wintour (she fully dressed, he sans).  Tom leaned in for a very fashion-world-acceptable-kiss-kiss-hello, then realized he was buck naked!  Quite possibly my new favorite fashion story!  Not to mention the visual!!!

Brunello Cucinelli, the undisputable king of CashCash, just released some gorgeous numbers – profits are up 10% this year.  This small luxury goods company, operating in an Umbrian hamlet named Solomeo that he single handedly restored – if you are ever near Solomeo, PLEASE take the time to experience it – magical!

Unknown-1

He has 720 employees, paid above the national rate, offers them 3.50 Euro subsidized gourmet meals with wine (obviously in Italia!) for their 90 minute lunches and during the recession did not lay off anyone.  In short, this company’s leader cares about his employees and his professional reputation.  Hand crafted luxury cashmere products created in Italy, and now that Brunello Cuccinelli is a publicly traded company, his decisions are having an impressive impact for his investors too – even in this economy when most luxury brands are suffering from price conscious customers.

Have a wondrous weekend – put on that cashcash sweater, and become transfixed watching the bubbles in the flute!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Hot Diggity it’s Friday in the Summer!

Vince is the next designer that is thinking of becoming a publicly traded company, and the plans to expand Vince’s retail presence is proof.  NYC is now home to a flagship Vince store that is over 3000 square feet – that is a lot of Vince!

GREAT NEWS!   H&M has decided to re-enlist David Beckham to sell their undies with a new Fall campaign.  Here is a sneak peek at what every 38 year old man’s abs should/could look like.

Joe Fresh is launching Joe Fresh Kids in all 700 J C Penny stores, and the kick off was putting up an orange grove in Times Square.  It was very orange, and executives at beleaguered J C Penny have their fingers crossed that lots of people will buy Joe Fresh Kids – not only to increase the charity donations directed at school focused causes but also to rally the stock!

Live large this weekend and dress spectacularly!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Greetings to the Friday!  All hail the Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe it’s because school is out and children are on my mind but here are a couple of interesting items children focused:

Moncler Enfant is going to be a major push for Moncler – and really, is there anything more adorable than an itty bitty puffy jacket?!?!?

Vince has announced Vince Kids and the design house is going to try to translate the simple lines and minimalist vibe into pint size adorableness.

And now back to adult land!

Jason Wu’s fall ad campaign features Christy Turlington and it is GORGEOUSNESS reincarnate!  reversecommuter is slightly obsessed with the red dress, and needless to say still hearts The Wu big time (click here for more).

Neiman Marcus has filed for an IPO (as suspected here….)  should be interesting to see what they value the shares at…perhaps a little retail therapy over at Needless Mark-up is in order (to help the valuation process of course….)

Enjoy the weekend – pull the tags of the new stuff, don’t save it – wear it and celebrate with a glass of champs!!!!!!!!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

HELLLLLOOOOOOO FABULOUS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!

Harry Winston plays the ulitmate hand of “Daddy’s Little Girl” – the jeweler has a new CEO Nayla Hayek, daughter of the founder & CEO of Swatch Inc, the new owner of Harry Winston (click here for more).  reveresecommuter has always found the relationship between those bright plastic watches and those decadent diamonds a little weird (click here for more).

Unknown-3

Neiman Marcus might go public…rumor on the street is that the lux retailer is in talks to launch an IPO and are shopping around banks and apparently Credit Suisse is the chosen one.

Unknown-2

reversecommuter should buy the stock as a means to buying back some of her previous investments.  🙂

Wishing you the BEST weekend filled with fantastically high heels and gorgeous clothes!

F-R-I-D-A-Y!!!!!!!!!!!!

H&M is going Big in the Big Apple.  Really Really BIG!  The Swedish retailer has announced plans for a new flagship, their biggest store in the world.  It will be a 57,000 square foot store!  5th and 48th will be transformed into H&M corner, the store will offer 6 floors of merchandise – that is a lot of shopping potential!  And this H&M will sell their home collection as well as clothing, (click the blue to peruse).

DVF has brought in a big gun!  Joel Horowitz (former Tommy Hilfiger business partner and CEO) as co-chairman of Diane von Furstenberg.  Industry insiders suspect that the reasoning behind this addition is that an IPO (Initial Public Offering) is in the future.  What this means is that DVF may become a publicly traded company – reversecommuter wonders if the ticker DVF is available?

Speaking of Diane von Furstenberg, her husband, UBER BUSINESS MOGUL Barry Diller’s former company, HSN (Home Shopping Network) is celebrating it’s 35th birthday.  HSN rakes in over $3 BILLION annually in sales – that is a lot of tv watching!!!

reversecommuter had the pleasure of working with HSN a few years ago and it is the most incredible operation.  Located in St. Petersburg, FLA, the compound resembles a Hollywood movie set and is unlike anything else.  Everyone gets around on go carts, there is product storage warehouses the size of condo buildings, and the level of professionalism was truly inspirational!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HSN!

Have a SENSATIONAL weekend!

Friday Fashion & Finance

Happy Friday!!!!!

TUMI went public, following in the footsteps of Michael Kors who is now not only a brilliant designer but also a KA-BILLIONAIRE!!!  TUMI‘s IPO has now valued the company at $1.79 billion…that is a lot of luggage!!!  As an aside, TUMI is my handsome-professional-road-warrior-husband’s favorite luggage brand, because it is so durable, and I like it’s sleek, masculine design and style.

Thought I would infuse a little Canadian flavor in the post today, considering I am still visiting Toronto….Joe Fresh (think Canada’s light version of H&M meets Target brand clothing) just opened a big honking’ flagship in Manhattan (located on 5th Avenue in the 40s) – MAJORLY GREAT LOCATION!!!!!

As it is a Canadian based retailer, I had the opportunity to go into a store in Toronto yesterday.  They are located (peculiarly) beside LOBLAWS grocery stores, are bright orange and sell VERY inexpensive clothes (for example $29.00 CND for bright colored capri jeans), for men, women and children. JOE FRESH is planning on opening up to 800 stores in the US (that is QUITE AMBITIOUS!!!!!!).
