Fashion & Finance Friday

Greetings fabulous Friday!  Love it when you get here so quickly!

Louis Boston, only bastion of fashion in the city of Boston, just announced that after 85 years and three generations of Greenberg leadership, will close it’s doors July 2015.

reversecommuter is heart broken.

Debi Greenberg has an incredible eye for talent within the fashion world.  Boston was beyond lucky to have her store situated here, as were the customers – and yes, no huge surprise she is a bit of a fashion industry icon for reversecommuter!

deb

She single handedly broke the city’s reputation as being somewhat fashion challenged.  Whatever will up and coming talents do when hoping to find a buyer with a trained eye and natural instinct for incredible fashion?

psme

Just ask Jason Wu, Proenza Schouler and Jonathan Simkhai what Debi and Louis Boston did for their careers when first launching their lines.

Today is a really bleak day for Boston fashion.

What do Palm Beach and Minnesota have in common in April?  Certainly not weather.  Answer: Lily Pulitzer is partnering up with Target for a 250 piece collection of clothing and housewares, dropping April 19.

Would the grand lady of pink & green palm tree shifts be excited about this?  reverse commuter thinks not.

10 years and counting – adidas by Stella McCartney Spring 2015 will be a big gorgeous birthday of loveliness (yes, I am excited!).

Look at what this brilliant British rock royalty designer does to workout wear!

Start saving those pennies because the better the outfit the harder you workout – that is my purchasing excuse and please don’t try to put holes in it!  Click here on January 15th to get the new collection!

Get outside, ignore the weather and enjoy the weekend!  Winter boots, skinny jeans, thick turtleneck sweater and a camel coat – walk into your favorite brunch spot, order a flute of pink champagne and pretend it is summer!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Sorry.  Late posting.  I blame the weather.

Jason Wu just presented a beyond-beautiful Spring 2015 Collection that was all about mules, navy blue *reversecommuter’s all-time-fave-color*, crisp whites, gorgeous tailored lines and rich suedes.

KIM_4874

Seemingly the perfect collection to launch on the day he announced he had sold a majority share to Interluxe.  CEO Gary Wasner has long been a Jason Wu fan, and the influx of cash will help him polish up his online business as well as build a flagship store.  Congratulations on a banner day!

Choupette’s Shupette Shu Umera Holiday Line has released a sneak peak at the feline-ferociously gorgeous make-up!

It’s enough to make a fashion blogger PURRRRRRRRRRR!

Unknown-1

NYFW is officially underway, which means reverse commuter is getting no sleep this weekend!

Unknown-2

Better pop the champs, raise the flute and smile for everything that makes you look taller, thinner and more fashionable!

Kinky

What the heck is this?

kink2

Hormones are to blame.  Apparently after a pregnancy the hormones can alter your hair – it can go dark, light, curly or ahem…kinky.          In. Just. One. Place.

Kink1Predictions for Fall 2014 Hair Trends include The Hair Tuck, whereby you tuck your ponytail into a scarf, shirt or coat.

renee-simonsen

The Mohawk Braid is another biggie.  I am kinda digging this one!

BLOG_collage_31

Chanel’s crimped, tweed twined ponytail was the closest do I could find to give me a little kinky-hair-hope.

Hair Trends for Fall 2014 have yet to mention the word KINKY but reversecommuter is on standby.

Jonathan Simkhai Visits!

Jonathan Simkhai came to Boston this weekend to pour me champagne.

js6

And host a Meet & Greet at Louis Boston…but mainly me and the champs.

JSc

Jonathan Simkhai Spring 2014 is a collection of feminine cuts, playful forms and flattering knitwear that can be ‘everyday incorporated’.  reversecommuter has been a fan obsessed with his clothes since first introduction 2012, and each season the designs improve to a new, unimaginable level.

js8

The other really incredible aspect of Jonathan Simkhai clothing is the price point, it is client friendly.  LOVE!

JS

“I know it sounds corny but I have always wanted to do this.  Being a designer is my dream.”  Jonathan Simkhai.

js5

Lucky for us Jonathan, dreams come true!

js3

reversecommuter is loving the slit godet tank – silk, sexy, versatile – bound to be a favorite basic in my Spring wardrobe.  The classic cropped turtleneck – ridiculousness reinvented! Jonathan’s knit pencil skirt is quite possibly one of THE most flattering (aka forgiving) knit pieces available!  Click the blue phrases, go shopping and wear gorgeous clothes!

Cropped WHO WHAT WHERE?!?!?

Option Two:  High Waisted Bottoms.

cropc

I kid you not, they are most definitely making a come back.  Released with crop tops, it’s almost like the designers feel our fear.  Click here to peruse 6 pages of high waisted pieces on net-a-porter.  Some of my favorites are Jonathan Simkhai, Alexander Wang and Jason Wu.

cropb

High Waisted Bottoms also hide a multitude of sins because of where the lines cut.  Seriously.

Cropa

Sarah Jessica Parker herself said in 2003 that moms don’t need to wear low rise jeans (click here for that Vogue piece).  Same exact premise to be found here.  No need to fully expose the Shar Pei tummy region.

cropd It should not be a whole lotta skin that is showing.  Buy up in the size of the top, gain a little extra length.  Just be sure of one thing – feel comfortable in it.  If not, there is always Option #1 – click here to revisit!

ps my oldest son wanted to know what happened to the rest of my top…keeping it real in the ‘burbs.

Adios & Thank You 2013

Happy 2014!!!!
Hope the holidays were relaxing, fun, sensational and provided you ample opportunities to be with the ones you love and drink champs!

2013 was a spectacular year, and I am so excited for what 2014 will bring!

xo reversecommuter

ps keep warm if you are affected by the Arctic Freeze in the mid-west or any of the 33 states with a storm warning!  brrrrrrrrrr!!!

More More More Proenza Schouler!

First Proenza Schouler spoke to a relatively intimate crowd at ICA Boston (as discussed here) then for a few VERY LUCKY individuals it was time for a private reception at Louis Boston.

PS2

By the by, the dress with the back cut out is the runway version and I AM OBSESSED!!!!!!!!

PS1

Once again the Boston goddess of all things fashionable, Debi Greenberg (owner of Louis Boston and patron saint / fairy godmother to incredible young designers such as Proenza Schouler, Jason Wu, Jonathan Simkhai etc – click the blue to read about each), knocked it out of the park & into the milky way!

deb

Let it be said here and now, I absolutely adore this woman and as I said to her at this event, I would MOVE if it weren’t for her because Boston would be severely fashion challenged!

PS3

During the event at the ICA, Jack & Lazaro spoke at length about the exciting developments they have made with textiles, specifically at their mills in Italy, and leather is just one example of this.

Louis Boston’s Proenza Schouler $15,000 leather tweed jacket (literally leather woven into a tweed) just increased it’s value…immeasurably!

wowjkt

Lazaro Hernandez signed it!!!

jkt1Another UBER cool moment came when Lazaro gave up the details on his ink.  Apparently he and Jack have matching tramp stamps behind the ear – some fantastic hung over Sunday morning decision.  Um, how ridiculously adorable anyway??!?!?!

psink

Considering my day didn’t start off particularly well (I got hit in the face with a tennis racket – ouch!) the evening was extra special fantastic and ridiculously fashionable!!!!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Greetings to the Friday!  All hail the Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe it’s because school is out and children are on my mind but here are a couple of interesting items children focused:

Moncler Enfant is going to be a major push for Moncler – and really, is there anything more adorable than an itty bitty puffy jacket?!?!?

Unknown-1

Vince has announced Vince Kids and the design house is going to try to translate the simple lines and minimalist vibe into pint size adorableness.

And now back to adult land!

Jason Wu’s fall ad campaign features Christy Turlington and it is GORGEOUSNESS reincarnate!  reversecommuter is slightly obsessed with the red dress, and needless to say still hearts The Wu big time (click here for more).

christy-turlingtons-jason-wu-campaign

Neiman Marcus has filed for an IPO (as suspected here….)  should be interesting to see what they value the shares at…perhaps a little retail therapy over at Needless Mark-up is in order (to help the valuation process of course….)

Enjoy the weekend – pull the tags of the new stuff, don’t save it – wear it and celebrate with a glass of champs!!!!!!!!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

That was a FAST one! Friday already!!!

lvmh-global-logo

Hermes is going to change it’s signature box from orange to red if LVMH doesn’t back off!! Specifically there has been some sneaky shares purchased – 22.6% to be exact – which has enabled LVMH to become a major shareholder. The AMF (the SEC in France) has slapped LVMH with a 10 MILLION EURO fine for being underhanded in it’s acquisition of Hermes’ shares. LVMH has stated that they do not know how the purchase of shares happened “You know, we found ourselves owning shares in this company…unexpectedly.”, said CEO Bernard Arnault. That is a strangely similar response my children give when trying to avoid ownership of a mistake “uh, I don’t know.”.

jason-wu09Lots and Lots and Lots of designers presented Resort Collections this past week – Balenciaga, Jason Wu, Ralph Lauren, Proenza Schouler etc. Surprisingly lots of black and white, the shorts continued to be a prevalent trend and leather is NOT GOING ANYWHERE (YAHOOOOOO!!!). The gorgeous green leather coat pictured about is Jason Wu’s (click here to read more about Wunderful Jason Wu).

Live a little larger this weekend – slap on some strappy shoes and dance for a minimum of 30 minutes (60 if champs is involved!!)
