Fashion & Finance Friday!

Spring has Sprung, and so has the weekend!

reversecommuter’s jaw has hit the floor!  Jeff Bezos’ Amazon has set it’s fashion goal WAY high with news this week that Amazon might be trying to buy net-a-porter.  THAT IS RIGHT, amazon is trying to BUY net-a-porter.com!

img-jeff-bezos-met-gala-2012_160846316382.jpg_carousel_parties

The deal has Natalie Massenet’s website of fashion deliciousness valued at 2 BILLION euros.

Massenet chased her dream to be the ultimate online luxury fashion site starting in her apartment (the luscious net-a-porter packaging was stored in her London flat’s bathtub!), and twelve years later sold the company to luxury goods group Richemont for 390 MILLION euros in 2010.

If this deal goes through, Jeff Bezos will truly earn his title as visionary within the business world.  First books, now luxury fashion, online all the time.  Mr. Bezos, reversecommuter is a little bit in awe.

Planning on a little cooking this weekend?  Why not take a recipe from the brand spanking new Bergdorf Goodman cookbook?

Berdorf’s released the cookbook this week and the food ideas are nearly as scrumptious as a visit to the second floor shoe boutique – trust me, it is THE closest thing to heaven!

The recipes include a ton of yummy cocktail ideas (WHOOP WHOOP!),

loads of salads – ladies who lunch on the 7th floor of Bergdorf’s LIVE for salads, salivate-worthy fish and meat entrees and desserts that include butterscotch brownies – I mean COME ON!!!!!!!!!

Salmon_v1-350x423

Needless to say, you can buy it on Amazon for a mere $25.

Put the boots in the back of the closet, slip into the strappy sandals and pop the champs – it’s Friday!!!!!!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Blogging with an ocean view is not as easy as it sounds – the temptation to play is way to great!  That is my excuse for a late submission today, can you really blame me?

IMG_0004New York Fashion Week is officially underway.  Devastated as reversecommuter is to have missed Jonathan Simkhai‘s crazy good show yesterday, at least I can drown my sorrows with a phenomenal margarita beachside.

YVL_1294 The signature ‘meshiness’ of his clothes makes me want to invest and layer up in Jonathan Simkhai pieces from head to toe, now and with the new Fall 2015 collection.

Ready for a clever segway?

Moda Operandi, the online boutique of immediate fashion gratification, has just received $60 MILLION Series E financing, with the most generous funding coming from Boston’s own Fidelity Investments.  Great news for any fashion fan who NEEDS/WANTS the latest luxury fashion directly from the runway.

The lines Moda Operandi carries include Jonathan Simkhai.  See how I did that?  🙂

Speaking of clever, chalk up another brilliant business move by Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon. Amazon just signed on as a major sponsor of Fashion Week, (starting with the upcoming Men’s Fashion Week), but reversecommuter predicts with the opening left by the departing Mercedez Benz, perhaps Amazon’s deep pockets could help NYFW like not many other sponsors could…

Bezos has grand fashion inspirations for Amazon (click here for more) so this new relationship is so very important!

Enjoy the weekend, ignore the impending snow storms and pop the cork on that champs with wild abandon…while wearing something romantic & fabulous!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Wasn’t it just Monday?  No Complaints here – Welcome to the Weekend!!!!!

Bottega Veneta knows a good thing when it has one, and it has for 13 years and counting!

Tomas Maier has been the (ridiculously handsome) creative director at the luxe leather weaver, as well as carrying his own line and boutiques.

TM Portrait Cruise 1213 Collier Schorr High.jpg

Maier’s designs for his own label are all about classic form, streamlines and structure.  Investing in his pieces is a wise play as there is very little trending about his clothing other than classic design.

Tomas has just opened a shop in NYC, to compliment his East Hampton and Palm Beach locations, and reversecommuter knows exactly where she is headed next New York jaunt!

Harvard Business Review just released it’s list of the Top 100 Performing CEO‘s, and retail has a huge positioning!  Please keep in  mind reversecommuter’s background is finance, so this merging of my two worlds (fashion & finance) makes me a little giddy!

Luxury fashion houses were not on the list at all but there were a few solid retail representations nonetheless.

Jeff Bezos, amazon.com’s leader is #1  / Japan’s Fast Retailing is #11(J Brand, Uniqlo, Theory are some of their better known lines) / TJX #51 (Maxxinistas everywhere rejoice!) / Nordstrom #54 / Macy’s #66 /Adidas #73 / Nike #76 / and closing up the rear in a most sparkly form, Tiffany #92.  HBR’s list is a great read, hit the link to see for yourself!

Happy Weekend – raise that flute, enjoy the bubbles and wear something special just because!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

How is it ALREADY Friday?  LOVE when that happens!!!!

Amazon is continuing it’s quest to become the fashion world’s one stop shopping site.  Really.  The online behemoth has just added luxury make-up and skin care to its line up.  Click here to buy a jug of LaPrarie then jump over regular ol’ Amazon and pick up some grocery supplies and maybe a book.  Didn’t anyone ever mention to Jeff Bezos that it is not ideal to be all things to all people in the world of retail?  Click the blue for more…

jeff-bezos-1008-lg

Speaking of luxury shopping and make-up (clever segway huh?) there was a flurry of gossip surrounding reversecommuter’s favorite site, net-a-porter.com.  WWD had a story run earlier in the week that suggested that yoox.com was planning on buying net-a-porter.

ob-jq887_magazi_g_20100823114840

HAPPILY Princess Natalie (the UBER gifter fashion visionary that created net-a-porter & mr. porter) is not reliquishing control of the kingdom anytime soon.  Net-a-porter quickly shot down the rumors and the most luxurious of all luxury shopping sites is not for sale, thank you very much!  (can you hear my exhale of relief? net-a-porter is my happy place!!!! – click the blue if you don’t believe me!)

Enjoy the looooooong weekend and feel free to pack a fashionable something and an extra bottle of bubbles for the trip!

Glamazon?!

Amazon is a big fish and it is about to go swimming in the high-end Fashion Ocean!

Jeff Bezos is luring in some big fashion names, Amazon was the corporate sponsor for the Met Ball, some impressive designers have joined the new Amazon fashion site and even Anna Wintour advised him on his puff choice for his Tom Ford tuxedo at the Met Costume Ball last week.  ANNA FREAKIN” WINTOUR!!!!!

Michael Kors, Jack Spade, Tracy Reese have all aligned themselves with Amazon’s new fashion focus.  The details are not clear in terms of what exactly Amazon is planning, but it is a safe bet that it is going to be big!  The shipping costs for a book or for a haute couture piece are the same for Amazon, so the sky is the limit for potential profits.  I love a good fashion & finance story (as I prove every Friday).

I sincerely hope there is some MAJOR TWEAKING that is about to happen to the existing Amazon fashion site (kinda yucky, just saying’).  Here is the home page (yawn)….

Amazon has over $5 Billion in cash, already owns ShopBop (love that site), Zappos (easier way to buy children’s shoes – I doubt it!!!), and MyHabit (blah….not my fave Gilt.com impersonator).  But apparently the new venture is going to be completely different from all of these….

I admit it, I am SO CURIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Jeff Bezos, please feel free to contact me if you need a little help.  really.  seriously.

Fashion and Finance Friday!

Oh Yeah, it’s Friday!!!!!

I cannot even BEGIN to wax on about Jeff Bezos, Amazon and the fashion world takeover….that will come in a separate, completely devoted posting, and it will be TRES GOOD!

All I will say about Jeff Bezos is that he wore Tom Ford to the Met Ball earlier this week, and was a fashion dude DO!

….and speaking of Tom Ford…..

Tom Ford takes four to five baths daily, says the baths are meditative and help him decompress after stressing about emails.  LOVE THAT!  He was very serious as a child, even carried around a briefcase at the age of 7 – ADORABLE!   He also freely admits to walking around his house naked – lucky neighbor!  He was the host of 92Y in NYC on Wednesday, and the event sold out four months ago on the pull of his gorgeousness alone!

Coty Inc. really wants to buy Avon, and back for a second shot at it Coty has called in the BIG DOG…Warren Buffett!  Coty has a new offer of $10.65 BILLION, and this despite Avon being decimated on the stock market (down another 3% yesterday to $20.89 per share).  DING DONG….TAKE THE OFFER!!!!!!

“‘Cause if you don’t look good, we don’t look good, we take pride in you”……Vidal Sasson passed away earlier this week.  An icon in the hair industry, he built his company on the merits of one amazing haircut – an asymmetrical bob.  Then of course came his hair care products and his designer jean line as well.  Truly an inspiring, business-brilliant, talented man.
