Simkhai & The Beach!

NYFW is in full swing and reversecommuter is at the beach.  Literally.

The timing of fashion week always baffles me.   The middle of the coldest winter month, which also coencided with my children’s school break.  How is this blogger supposed to sneak away to New York during THAT week?

Happily Vogue, Tim Blanks, Instagram and the Internet are all willing to work on my behalf (lol) and keep me posted while I focus on swim, sun, surf and all things beachy!

Jonathan Simkhai presented his Fall 2016 Collection yesterday and dare I say it was one of THE best presentations!

Jonathan has created a niche using geometric cuts and lace in his deliciously designed dresses and knits.  Fall 2016 continued this but in a more wearable way.  His dresses were less crop top more hot wives who lunch.  Wearable but with a major statement of style and strength.

Movement was everywhere in this collection, with fringe, tassels and unfinished ends that seemingly danced down the runway.

Furs, neutrals, knits, navy (don’t think I am not ABSOLUTELY buying this complete look!!!) and suiting cut to perfection.

Bustiers and slip dresses complemented with luxurious furs delivered fantasy level date night outfits.  His romantic sensibility met body conscious sex appeal in every piece, by adhering to the age old adage of keeping somethings left to the imagination.

Seeing Stars & Snowflakes

Impending snow storms normally freak me out – note wonky facial expression in photo…

Now 5th Avenue behemoths Henri Bendel and Bergdorf Goodman are fighting over themselves to get the Boston bred Third Piece goddesses to bring their wares to NYC trunk shows throughout the year!

Jonathan Simkhai Visits!

Jonathan Simkhai came to Boston this weekend to pour me champagne.

And host a Meet & Greet at Louis Boston…but mainly me and the champs.

Jonathan Simkhai Spring 2014 is a collection of feminine cuts, playful forms and flattering knitwear that can be ‘everyday incorporated’.  reversecommuter has been a fan obsessed with his clothes since first introduction 2012, and each season the designs improve to a new, unimaginable level.

The other really incredible aspect of Jonathan Simkhai clothing is the price point, it is client friendly.  LOVE!

“I know it sounds corny but I have always wanted to do this.  Being a designer is my dream.”  Jonathan Simkhai.

Lucky for us Jonathan, dreams come true!

reversecommuter is loving the slit godet tank – silk, sexy, versatile – bound to be a favorite basic in my Spring wardrobe.  The classic cropped turtleneck – ridiculousness reinvented! Jonathan’s knit pencil skirt is quite possibly one of THE most flattering (aka forgiving) knit pieces available!  Click the blue phrases, go shopping and wear gorgeous clothes!

It is no secret how much reversecommuter LOVES Jonathan Simkhai, designer and designs, since being introduced to him through W Boston and Louis Boston last spring.  Click here for a refresher.

Jonathan Simkhai designs clothing that is fun, fashion forward, wearable – as in everyday gorgeousness even when schlepping children around, running errands and any other daily operation that normally elicits groans!  His pieces are easily added to a basic wardrobe to create a polished, fashionable effect with very little energy.

His studio is in the CFDA Fashion Incubator Studios, from 2012-2014.

Guess who got to visit and take a few pics?

JS4

What a trip to go inside the studio, small and intense, and see the inner machinations of the line.  There was a huge Mac screen on a back table, swatches and rolls of fabric littered throughout, even an old school Butterick pattern book (loved seeing that, it was like a little peek into the creative process in the beginning of his career!).

They even showed me some of the Spring Collection and the knitwear is BEYOND!!!!!!!!!!  reversecommuter feels like a knitwit for not grabbing a certain skirt and white cropped sweater – might have to make a call later this morning….

Hat Hunt

It’s over.  It was challenging and sometimes even exhausting…

reversecommuter did her due diligence, at Scoop NYC (the reindeer number was my running have…), Steven Alan (uber cool shop had quite the impressive selection…)

But I found it.

The Third Piece (click here for more) had their trunk show last night in Boston at Cafeteria, and perfection was found. The Ope Hat in sapphire, now otherwise known as reversecommuter’s!

Here I am with the founder, Carina (hours before she jetted off to NYC for another trunk show at Henri Bendel – this line is HOT!!!!).
