Bowie, Unicorns and Yigal

Yigal Azrouel is the perfect man.  He is handsome, charming, talented, single and he surfs.    He was in the Israeli military and recommends sit ups, push ups and running as the best workout.  Surfing is his passion, and it allows him to decompress after presenting his collections.

Some may call him a unicorn in the fashion world.

This weekend Yigal is previewing his Fall 2016 Collection at the Greta Luxe boutique in Wellesley and mixing with the housewives.

Thursday night he was mingling and adding his gorgeous personal touch to every advance purchase of a line that is oozing with decadence.  To say there was a line up would be an understatement.  The intimacy was electric.

reversecomuter’s first obsession in the collection is the full length black jersey off the shoulder dress, complete with requisite sexy side slit.

This dress is quite possibly one of the sexiest pieces I have ever put on.  Yet it literally felt as comfortable as when wearing pajamas – I could have worn it forever!

A full length lace off the shoulder dress with burgundy and greens wafting throughout in a romantic weave quickly caught my attention.  Holiday season 2016 the bar has been raised!

Cut-out sweaters in dreamy cream and textured, offering the promise of a fabulous winter outing après anything!

Chunky sweaters reminiscent of Rihanna’s favorite (and reversecommuter’s) from 2014 were offered in an updated cut and color.

Blood red, grey and white with a subtle reference to classic glen check?  IN BASKET!

Yigal Azrouel’s Fall 2016 Collection’s main inspiration was the Black Rose.  Subtle, rich, hidden yet still representative of love.  The clothes continue to deliver his love of decadence, texture and drama.  The leathers and furs sourced from Italy and France are quite possibly the best offered by an American designer, collection after collection.

The motif of the black rose is found throughout the collection, in the lace pieces and the furs.

When asked which piece he would most love to see a suburban mom pick up, he immediately chose the “Bowie” mink jacket with the black roses, at a cool $9950.

He has dressed supermodel Iman and had the pleasure of meeting David Bowie.  The jacket is a luxurious and appropriately rock & roll nod to the legend.

Rushing out of Greta Luxe to hit the baseball and soccer fields (as is the role of suburban mama), I giggled in the rain as I ran in Yigal Azrouel top and my stilettos, reliving how I had just played dress up with a handsome fashion designer unicorn!

Brogue Nation

A Rogue Nation is defined as a renegade state.

Try to find a more renegade state than suburban moms!  United in a lack of sleep, an overflow of mommy guilt, an excess of baby bragging capabilities (irregardless of the child’s age), and a daily challenge to find the perfect uniform that works while running, chasing, laundry, cooking, cleaning, dodging body fluids and still managing to look hot.  woah.

Suburban moms, it is time to celebrate and WHOOP it up!  Brogues are THE shoe for Fall 2015.

Flat.  Leather. Comfortable. Stylish. Cute. Work with jeans, shorts, leather pants, skirts, whatever.  Dress them up or down.  Just wear them.

As an added bonus brogues allow you to wear those super duper silly adorable itty bitty no-see-um socks.  Seriously, the inventor of those babies needs to win some sort of serious award.

Clogged

One thing with fabulous fashion trends and styles is that they eventually repeat.

Clogs are back this Spring with a solid wooden-heeled thunk!

IMG_7690

Marc Jacobs clogged up his Spring 2015 runway with color coordinated Dr. Scholl-esque shoes that are SO cute…ranging in price between $2000 – $2300, and selling out fast as per NYC boutique!

Gold, Military Green, Navy Blue (obviously reversecommuter is SUPER happy about that!), velvet, satin twill and suede – take your pick and stomp all over town owning that wooden statement!

Gucci has a heeled version with all the stomping power needed to get through the day.

Bits, leather and wood – yummy…and $850.  Worth the investment – reverse commuter bought a pair of Gucci clogs in the late nineties (I KNOW!!!!) and they are still every bit as gorgeous now!

Dr. Scholl (as in the original clog meister) still delivers a collection in plain and stripes!

Super duper delightful and budget loving at a modest $55 – seriously.

Whatever your spending limit, run like a little Dutch girl to pick up a pair of wooden clogs for Spring 2015!

Slitted Skirts Naughty & Nice

The countdown continues with Day 6 of Christmas Party Looks (or Holiday Party Looks, whichever floats your seasonal boat).

A fashion blogger formerly in the financial sector who lost count of the 12 Days of Christmas?  Yup.  As today is December 17th, there will be 2 postings daily from now until December 24th in order to deliver a complete set of 12 Holiday Looks.

Now back to slits!  Alice and Olivia’s dusty pink slitted long fitted skirt is divine, and would make a perfect accompaniment to a chilled glass of pink champs!

Oh my, isn’t a subtle slit a wondrous thing in a girl’s wardrobe?  Combine that with an exquisite piece of Balmain’s butter soft, chestnut leather and va-va-va-VOOM!

Mini skirts aren’t the only power wielding flouncy in the closet!  A maxi long flowy skirt with an unexpected flash of leggy flesh is palpitatingly delightful!

Etro’s luxurious scarf skirt and Malene Berger’s navy blue number both deliver that leg appeal.

The classic black pencil skirt with a big badass slit is precisely what Jonathan Simkhai had in mind with his modern day interpretation.  A cropped top adds a fun way to celebrate those hard earned abs!

Leather for Christmas…

Or at least for Day 4 of reversecommuter’s 12 Days of Christmas Parties (or Holiday Parties = whichever floats your festive boat)

Could it be any easier than  a leather dress?   Miu Miu has just the pièce de résistance! Add heels, clutch and beware the mistletoe!

A leather top, adorned with a peplum waist or open back can be the perfect topping to your Party Outfit tree!   Veronica Beard’s leather top even delivers a surprising lace back detail.

Leather pants complimented with a stunner of a blazer (think back to Day 3’s tuxedos) make a mommy outfit a YUMMY MUMMY outfit!  Acne Studios does things to leather that most fashionistas simply dream of touching…

Transatlantic Transcendence!

Bibhu Mohapatra is a designer who deftly manipulates fur, fabric and designs into jaw dropping elegance.

bibhu2

New York based Mohapatra began working for J Mendel, Parisien furrier extraordinare.  Bibhu travelled to Paris to work with Mendel’s father, Jacques, who taught Bibhu the intricacies of working with fur.

_LKV3633

In 2009 Mahapatra launched his first solo collection, notably his main focus was evening gowns and furs.  Bibhu’s Spring 2015 Collection had been spinning around in his mind for a couple of years but despite a vague nautical direction, the full definition was somewhat incomplete.

images-1

Until two years ago when Bibhu Mohapatra sailed transatlantic for seven days on The Queen Mary, with his partner, spotty internet,  and a library littered with random yet fascinating titles.  His book of choice was a biography on Nancy Cunard, heiress to the Cunard shipping line,  an adventurous woman who’s spirit inspired Bibhu.   Cunard, along with the transatlantic voyage, helped to seamlessly create and define Bibhu Mohapatra’s Spring 2015 Collection.

_LKV3689

The Spring 2015 Collection offers an interesting element of fur, an element notably absent from most designers when presenting that season.  Bibhu’s mastery in working with fur to make it pretty, fun and light are a testimony to his years learning the trade.  Saks Fifth Avenue carries his line, a must!

_LKV3572

His cuts and tailoring are masterfully appreciative of the female body, slipping into one of his dresses is like being luxuriously cucooned in the finest fabrics perfectly molded onto your body.  It is truly an experience better than chocolate!

_LKV3668

Evening gowns with spiralgraph-esque patterns cascading down the skirt, a pattern Bibhu created himself.  But if evening gowns are not currently part of your wardrobe, he has extended his creations to cigarette pants and organza flanked crop tops in the same swirly  movement.

bibhu3

Furs in a perfect pink, manipulated into looking like polyantha roses (perfect tiny super fragrant roses) set on buttery soft leather in that same exact perfect pink.

_LKV3529

Beautiful beading can be found throughout the collection, and Bibhu told me the secret to it’s decadence.

Bibhu1

He uses a beader who relocated to India from Paris, and is also the Balenciaga beader.  The detailed work speaks for itself!

photo 2-2

reversecommuter was fortunate enough to be invited to play dress up in this delicious little number I dubbed ‘naughty Mrs. Cleaver goes on safari’ (much to the amusement of Bibhu!).  The tight fitting bodice is enveloped with a satin filled skirt that playfully offers the most decadent of details – pockets!  The safari reference comes from an unexpected frivolity on the back of the dress, two trench styled flaps that sit on the shoulder blades – SO FUN!

Silly sidebar moment – I told Bibhu I was mildly obsessed with look #10 from his NYFW and he immediately pulled this dress.  Apparently we share an obsession!

photo 1-2

The Collection is fun, as is the designer.  He is grateful to where he is at this exact moment, and wants to grow “with baby steps, surround himself with good people and focus on his passion.”  His energy, confidence and warmth are intoxicating, almost as much as his clothing.
