O.W.O. City/Beach Style

Ever been to a busy bustling city that has a sandy beach one block away from your hotel?

chi

reversecommuter is experiencing this strange phenomenon right now in Chicago…and liking it!

Click here to peruse the boutique, and all the phenomenal designers that live there.

P.S. Completely addicted to the contents of this bottle.  Harmless Harvest’s Pink, raw, delicious coconut water (did you know it is better than sports drinks to replenish and rehydrate?).  Can you think of a better way to recover from the beach and strengthen up for shopping?!?!?

Beach Bag and Beyond!

reversecommuter is on the beach for the month of July…so really there is no better time to post about finding the perfect beach bag.

bach

Sail bags are obviously on the list (made out of recycled sails) – gorgeous (fyi reversecommuter has it on a very good source that you can now order sail shower curtains CLICK HERE!!!!!)

The $20 L’Occitane straw bag gets me more compliments than I can count – kinda funny as it was originally an accidental purchase.  reversecommuter was buying a few delicious smelling goodies for a friend and asked if I could buy the straw bag that L’Occitane encourages shoppers to use as a basket in the store.

And my summer IT bag was born – as obviously I had to buy one for myself too!

reversecommuter bought a Louis Vuitton “never full” bag five years ago as a diaper bag for baby boy.

tues

EVERYONE has one now which is precisely why I now bring it to the beach.  Sand, lotion, leaky juice box – fine by me.  Unfortunately this thing will last longer than Keith Richards!

Abaya Babes

Visiting Dubai was truly the experience of a lifetime!

Dub5

Camel rides on the beach…

Architecture that defies gravity and redefines structure…

Dub6

The Gold Souk – a gold market overflowing with all things 18 & 24K, intricately woven necklaces, rings, bracelets, and charms being hawked in fluorescent lit shops by deal promising Arabs…

Dub4

Visiting Dubai was also learning experience, one in culture and as a result I now have a new appreciation for the Abaya, the black cloak worn in public by Muslim women.

DSC_0019 2

Researching the cultural restrictions prior to leaving, reversecommuter was WORRIED about what part of my wardrobe I would actually be able to wear in Dubai (click here to revisit).  According to Muslim customs, Western women should have everything from the shoulders to the knees covered in public.   Uh…that eliminates my entire summer wardrobe.  Truly.

Dub1

Once I arrived in Dubai I noticed that Westerners were taking the dress code quite lightly.  As in Daisy Dukes, revealing sloppy tank tops and mini skirts galore.  All of a sudden the Abaya approach seemed to offer an element of class and grace. Prior to Dubai, the Abaya symbolized oppression and control to me. Dubai taught me that  it’s Abaya wearing women, who by the way compliment the black cloak with 6 inch towering Dior electric blue stiletto sandals, Chanel and Louis Vuitton handbags, expertly applied kohl pencil cats’ eyes, eyelash extensions and brilliantly painted talons, carried themselves with a quiet sophistication and femininity rarely delivered by the yoga pant uniform that has swept across the U.S.  Flashes of designer jeans and flowing wide leg linen pants peeked out of the abayas, gold belts synched the waists, and even the cloaks themselves were sometimes adorned with lace, Swarovski crystals and peekaboo organza patches.

Dub2

Poolside I was grateful for the Western summer uniform of a bikini, and the discomfort potential of a black cloak in 100+ degree desert heat is not something reversecommuter will be signing up for anytime soon, but thanks to Dubai’s Muslim women, I now have a new respect and appreciation for the Abaya adorned, with their grace, confidence and air of quiet superiority to the oafy daisy duked.

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Polar Vortex and unlimited snow storms will not lessen the level of AWESOMENESS that accompanies Friday!!!!!!!!!!!

OOOH LALA!  Paris Fashion Week has begun and so far so fabulous!  Lanvin delivered reversecommuter’s current favorite collection for Fall 2014, with a sea of luxury, fur, satin and predominantly all in navy blue (my favorite color!!).

LAN_0620.450x675

Alber Elbez designs are oozing with sex appeal, feminine grace and the structure of a true Parisian fashion house.  Purrrrr!

LAN_0179.450x675

Isabel Marant brought forth a Mayan influenced patterned in knitwear, as well as military green – which interestingly is quite the trend across most runways for Fall 2014.

H&M delivered it’s very first PFW show and it was rockstar clothing appropriate with plumes of ostrich feathers, lots of leather, studs and thigh-high boots.  Fingers crossed these looks are readily available!

Nicholas Ghesquiere’s inaugural show for Louis Vuitton is scheduled for March 5th, and noone is getting to him before that – la maison du Vuitton est tres calme (which means “quiet” not “calm” in French!!).

Unknown-1

reversecommuter is SO curious to see this collection, as Balenciaga’s loss of Nicholas was one that I felt personally!

Chill the champs for Sunday’s Oscars – the red carpet is a fashion watching must that is best accompanied with bubbles!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

What is it about Friday that instantaneously adds a big smile?!

NYFW is over, LFW is began today.  Snow to rain, fabulous fashion to fabulous fashion.

Marc Jacobs ended the shows in NYC, and he did not disappoint! Rich luxe colored furs, caramels, winter whites, mod patterns sequins, a little lace, some hand stitched organza and quite possibly some of the most beautiful dresses presented in a long time.  Almost like a celebration of his emancipation from other lines (Louis Vuitton) to give his line the love it demands!

_17G0419.450x675

Ralph Lauren’s collection was dreamy and rich, a line up of soft grey and purple and cream floated down the runway, dripping in cashmere, satin and wool crepes.  reversecommuter was hoping Ralph would end the show in one of those INCREDIBLE U.S. Olympic uniform sweaters, but alas his only nod to the snowy sports celebration was to be found on his feet!

Tod’s owner and all round favorite Italian patriarch (click here for why) is having a little spat with Fiat, or to be more specific with Fiat heir John “Yaki” Elkann, grandson to founder Gianni Agnelli.  The two “gentlemen” are throwing insults at each other in the media (click here to have a giggle), in a war of words that starting over soccer (football in the rest of the world except the U.S.).  The luxury Italian leather maker is also the owner of a soccer/football club in Italy, and it happens to be the main rival of the Fiat owned team.

I rigazzi sono rigazzi – that’s “Boys will be boys” in Italian!

On that note, pop some prosecco while wearing your cutest weekend get-up and celebrate love over this Valentine weekend!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Last week of January – Done & Done!  Greetings & Salutations FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here it comes….earnings season, and you know how much reversecommuter loves the numbers!

LVMH had a year of flat growth, with an profit increase of only 0.4%.  Don’t be too blue for the house that Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Celine, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, etc etc. built, they still managed to rock 4.7 BILLION in profits!  reversecommuter thinks that Bernard Arnault and Salma Hayek won’t need to adjust the budget too severely!!

Unknown-1

But this splat flat is interesting in that it reflects China and European luxury markets slowing considerably.  Suddenly vintage is in (aka nobody is buying anything new!!).

Breach is Bad. First Target, then Neiman Marcus and now Yahoo!  Yahoo announced Jan 30 that some of it’s email accounts had been hacked.  Neiman Marcus is working with federal investigators to provide insight into the 1.1 MILLION credit cards that were hacked over an estimated 3 month time frame.  Target had 40 million customers’ credit and debit card info stolen during the holiday shopping season.
