Fashion & Finance Friday!

Wasn’t it just Monday?  No Complaints here – Welcome to the Weekend!!!!!

Bottega Veneta knows a good thing when it has one, and it has for 13 years and counting!

Tomas Maier has been the (ridiculously handsome) creative director at the luxe leather weaver, as well as carrying his own line and boutiques.

TM Portrait Cruise 1213 Collier Schorr High.jpg

Maier’s designs for his own label are all about classic form, streamlines and structure.  Investing in his pieces is a wise play as there is very little trending about his clothing other than classic design.

Tomas has just opened a shop in NYC, to compliment his East Hampton and Palm Beach locations, and reversecommuter knows exactly where she is headed next New York jaunt!

Harvard Business Review just released it’s list of the Top 100 Performing CEO‘s, and retail has a huge positioning!  Please keep in  mind reversecommuter’s background is finance, so this merging of my two worlds (fashion & finance) makes me a little giddy!

Unknown

Luxury fashion houses were not on the list at all but there were a few solid retail representations nonetheless.

Jeff Bezos, amazon.com’s leader is #1  / Japan’s Fast Retailing is #11(J Brand, Uniqlo, Theory are some of their better known lines) / TJX #51 (Maxxinistas everywhere rejoice!) / Nordstrom #54 / Macy’s #66 /Adidas #73 / Nike #76 / and closing up the rear in a most sparkly form, Tiffany #92.  HBR’s list is a great read, hit the link to see for yourself!

Happy Weekend – raise that flute, enjoy the bubbles and wear something special just because!

HEAT WAVE FRIDAY!!!!!!!  Break out that maxi and keep cool!

images

Macy’s is guilty of some self-love!  The retailer is investing over $400 MILLION into the NYC flagship.  The renovation is divided into 4 phases, and will add over 100,000 square feet bring the total shop size to 1.2 MILLION square feet which covers over ten levels of shopping floors between now and Fall 2015.  Plans include building the LARGEST shoe department of 39,000 square feet – capable of holding 300,000 pairs of shoes!!!!!!!  Clearly Macy’s takes it’s existing title of “World’s Largest Store” extremely serious.

WAHOOOIEY – those kind of numbers can really excite a girl with an appreciation for all things fashion!

Unknown-2

Tory Burch is going after the counterfeiters in a big bad way!  Apparently learning of the fakes directly from clients who were proudly displaying the big ol’ T’s around their necks, Tory Burch and her legal beagles are opening cases against a bunch of “industrial entrepreneurs” who are brazen enough to sell their knockoffs directly to trade shows and retailers, with orders amounting to thousands of dollars.  Tory is even going after retailers who bought from the companies who made the knockoffs!  reversecommuter thinks that is a little aggressive considering the store owner went to a show, placed an order and received the goods thinking they were legitimate.  Absolutely hit the counterfeiters but attacking the shop owner is a little wonky!

Find a body of water, slap on a fabulous fashionable hat, and enjoy the weekend!

Greetings & Salutations FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

VB6

Fall trends that have been sashaying down runways from NYC to Milan include leather –  and LOTS of it – as exhibited by Veronica Beard’s Fall Collection (click the blue to see more), capes (how super hero-ish!) and florals (yup, even into fall).  So that means that clever fashion savvy shoppers now know what makes a smart buy!

Peek-a-Boo LuLu!

Lulu Lemon had an unfortunate yoga pant transparency issue earlier this week – and it has cost the company a bundle in stock value!  Lulu’s CEO, Christine Day told Bloomberg News that the only way to confirm the see-thru quality was for customers to bend over – the transparency issue was only when customers’ stretched in them.  Click the blue to go to lululemon.com.

Which makes reversecommuter point out the obvious – THEY ARE YOGA PANTS, THERE IS GOING TO BE ALOT OF STRETCHING!!!!!!  Unless of course the customer is wearing them all day long and not doing yoga -which is another travesty all together!

Q4 Earnings have started rolling in (reversecommuter LOVES this time of year!!) and the news is pretty good so far – NIKE, Tiffany’s, Hermes, Sak’s, The Gap have all reported an increase in earnings despite a difficult holiday period and wacky winter weather.

Enjoy the weekend – mix your patterns just for giggles and drink some champs too!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Well Hello There End of The Week!

Sales are a plenty this time of year – roam any of your favorite online retailers and find a plethora of deals!  Mr. Porter is up to 80% off, as is Barneys.  (click the blue to go shop up a storm!).

barneys-preview

Boston readers should take a little time to go to Louis Boston, their 40% off sale started this am!  Gretta Luxe is also celebrating the end of the season with 50% off their winter collection.  (click the blue for the websites).

Louis Boston, Seaport

Retail expectations are slowing and the number estimates are coming down – quickly! Tiffany’s, Target, Macy’s, Kohl’s, have all announced a slight rejigging of their numbers.  Economists that follow the sector (dream job for reversecommuter!!!) think that 2013 will be a year of modest spending but upward nonetheless.

Hope you all have a RIDICULOUSLY FUN & FASHIONABLE weekend!

Hello End of the Week!

Lord & Taylor logo

Is nothing sacred?  Lord & Taylor’s 5th Avenue flagship store is going to open for business on Thanksgiving!  Let’s hope the Macy’s parade doesn’t drop off it’s employees by float to work a shift or two to compete…

reversecommuter used to live in Toronto, and Sundays were retail non grata days, it was a family day.  Then a couple of retailers fought hard enough and soon Sunday was just another day to hit the stores.  Let’s hope major holidays don’t become a thing of the past!

Coach logo

Coach & The Jones Group both released very positive numbers for Q3 – let’s hear it for the  non-luxury goods sector kicking it!

And now back to luxury…

Versace opened a cool new store, Versace Vibe this past week in SOHO – big BIG party! Dior opened up two STELLAR boutiques in as many weeks – one in Milan and one on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.  Louis Vuitton opened it’s first Brazilian boutique this week.  Alexander McQueen opened it’s first men’s only boutique in London, and there are creative plans to launch new retail for men and women and McQ!

Happy Happy Weekend!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

This edition of Fashion & Finance Friday has a GIrl Power Theme (must have been the Olympic performance of the Spice Girls’ influencing reversecommuter!)

SPANX (every girl’s bff) is a company started by a fabulously clever gal named Sara Blakely to improve how her butt looked in pants – true story!  LOVE IT!

SPANX has wholesale numbers of approximately $240 MILLION annually – inspirational!!!

The company is planning on opening some SPANX retail stores in the US – GREAT NEWS as the formal season is right around the corner, and evening gowns looked 10X better with a little SPANX love underneath.

Martha Stewart is being fought over by two very powerful men – corporate CEO’s.  Macy’s is suing J C Penney over Martha’s home goods line, basically fighting over the right to sell Martha Stewart dishes, towels, etc.  This could prove to be a very costly fight…and entertaining!

Cosmopolitan’s Editor Helen Gurley Brown passed away this week at 90.  Best selling author, editor extreme and mentor for women and their sex lives around the world.  Celebrate the woman this weekend, have a cosmo and a romp!

Happy Weekend!!!
