A Great White (T-Shirt)

Holy Moly I do love a good t-shirt, almost as much as I love gardenias.

T3

But not when they dissolve into a pile of holes – the t-shirts, not the gardenias.

T5

And I don’t want to break the bank – especially as white tees need to be a new annual purchase, so as to avoid the dreaded yellow pits.

T4

I am loving J Crew linen t-shirts again – click here to read about the love.  The short sleeve crew neck t-shirts come in a rainbow of colors and are on sale CLICK HERE!!!!!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Seriously, deliriously happy it is Friday!!!!!!

Celine is growing, and I for one am deliriously happy about it! There is an outlet recently opened at the Woodbury Commons just outside of NYC. (Insert extremely high pitched squeal of happiness by reversecommuter here!!!!!). Celine has also just opened the brand spanking new doors of their new flagship store in London on Mount Street (neighbors to Lanvin, Azzaro, Balenciaga and Goyard!).  Phoebe Philo is also going to fill up 15 additional new shops internationally including Tokyo, Soho, and Las Vegas.  Ahem….Boston please?!!!

J Crew might be going public.  Looking for a cash king to come riding into the sunset but not having a happy ending with Japan’s Fast Retailing Co (parent company of J Brand, UNI QLO, Theory and a few others).  Talks ended earlier this week in which J Crew was possibly going to be bought by Fast Retailing for $5 BILLION.  That is a whole heck of a lot of sushi so the Japanese company went Sayonara.  Rumor has it that Mickey is now gearing up for an Initial Public Offering with Goldman Sachs.

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Only 7 more sleeps till NYC FNO!  And it’s Friday!  Gotta love a double combo of happiness!

J. Crew is getting ready to expand internationally.  This is a bold move considering international and domestic economies are not exactly healthy.  J. Crew is already up in Canada, with one store in Toronto (where reversecommuter has it on good authority you can get a much better selection of the highly coveted and hard to find J. Crew Collection.

And net-a-porter (LOVE LOVE LOVE all things Natalie Massenet & net-a-porter!!!)) carries a considerable amount of J. Crew (which reversecommuter found quite surprising at first but now warmly embraces).

Now the retail powerhouse is preparing to open up stores in Hong Kong and London in the next two years, and will begin to ship internationally to 107 countries!  Mickey Drexler is doing a great job – not a big surprise (click here to see an earlier reverse commuter.com posting on the retail Midas, Mickey Drexler).

DuJour Magazine (click the blue to take a look at this fab new mag) – the magazine that will only be delivered to readers whose homes are over $1.5 MILLION and have an average income over $250K – is truly a gorgeous magazine (in print and online – the interactive digital version is phenom).

Jason Binn, publishing guru and founder of DuJour Magazine is also chief advisor to Kevin Ryan, Gilt’s CEO, among other projects including Niche Media which publishes 13 magazines scattered across major US cities such as Boston Common Magazine, Aspen Peak and Gotham to name a few.

reversecommuter is very excited to let you in on a little secret…I am going to the DuJour Magazine launch party on Wednesday September 5th….KIND OF EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a brilliant, fabulous, fashion filled LOOOOOOOONG WEEKEND!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

How fabulous that it is already Friday – gotta love a short week after a fantastic looooong weekend!

J. Crew shouted from the rooftop that their profits had nearly doubled in this first quarter, compared to last year.  Their revenues read an amazing $503.5 million, and the profit was a cool $30.7 million…in one quarter! As mentioned earlier, the Mickey Drexler CNBC documentary was a phenomenal piece,  inspiring corporate propaganda that any retailer would die to have aired!

Neiman Marcus enjoyed $1.06 billion revenues this year, up from $983 million last year.  Apparently big ticket retail is alive and kicking!  Needless Markup (oh come on, you know you use the nickname too) is going to focus on further developing CUSP, the 6 contemporary pop-up stores that they have had for 6 years.  Personally I love CUSP, I really enjoy the edited version of Neiman’s that it offers, and I always have success jumping in to CUSP, whereas attempting the same quick visit at Neiman’s seems daunting based on pure volume.

The Olsen twins (no matter what they do as adults, are forever referred to as such) are the new creative directors of Superga sneakers.  The Italian classics were purchased by Steve Madden and he then appointed The Row designers (LOVE LOVE LOVE The Row!!) the new Superga creative directors.  Sadly all the dedicated CASHMERE styles to be sold on The Row’s website are completely sold out.  Seccatura (bummer in Italian)!

Finance & Fashion Friday!

Bonjiorno Venedi!

Giorgio Armani announced a 45% increase in annual sales for 2011.  Not only is that an amazing increase for a year’s sales, it is also quite impressive that Giorgio felt like sharing that information…it is a privately held company so he could have kept that fabulous news all to himself.  (I would choose to brag about the good news too, especially right about now in Italy!)

China (again)…Ralph Lauren Corporation (stock symbol RL) has announced there will be 60 stores opening in the next three years.  Sixty!  Personally I am rethinking the potential payback of the Rosetta Stone Mandarin cds I just bought….

Speaking of the Lifshitz Family, (I just love the Lauren’s real surname!!!), Ralph’s gorgeous wife, Ricky Lauren, just released quite the delicious coffee table book, “The Hamptons: Family, Food and History” and launched the book at a soiree held at the Ralph Lauren Manhattan flagship store.  Cannot wait to get my mitts on a copy of that luscious read, just in time for summer!

The reverse commuter is tired today, stayed up too late watching an awesome CNBC  biography on Mickey Drexler, former CEO of The Gap, current CEO of J. Crew.   AMAZING WATCH!!!!!!!  He owns 7 homes (most oceanfront mansions) but started off in a  one room walk-up and very humble beginnings.  Still meets with the “borough boys” – men that he grew up with and know him better than anyone else (except his college sweetheart wife).  Mickey is inspirational on the professional and personal fronts, refreshing!  Plus he loves the color yellow – thinks it is an attention grabber (happens to be my youngest’s fave color).

Mickey is sending J. Crew over to China too….just saying (说 in Mandarin).
