Fashion & Finance Friday!

First day of Spring and it falls on a Friday!  WHOOOP!!!!!!!!!!

(reversecommuter will not even comment on the fact that it will snow here in Boston later this evening…)

Cavalli trumps Pucci – it is ON in Italy!  Roberto Cavalli announced this week that Peter Dundas will return to the casa de Cavalli after a hiatus from the house of animal-print-body-hugging-plunging-cleavage designs, where he worked between 2002 through 2005.

Dundas was the creative director of Pucci from 2008 through to this February’s Milan Fashion Week.

Pucci moved quickly to report that MSGM’s Massimo Giorgetti will be Dundas’ replacement.

“Dramma” – that is drama in Italiano!

“Pavement Cracker” Kanye has done it yet again, and Choupette is pissed!  Kanye West X Adidas out clicked Chanel and any other collection during the fashion weeks, the closest second was Chanel by 1 MILLION!!!!!!!!

Naturally the Yezzy Boosts are all sold out.

Should be interesting to see what happens to the rest of the ahem…collection.  If you cannot fight the urge to purchase, Barney’s just announced they will be carrying all the yeeziness!

Put that black turtleneck in the very back of your closet, pull out the brilliantly bright stilettos and celebrate the end of winter with a click of your heels and a clink of your champagne flute!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Blogging with an ocean view is not as easy as it sounds – the temptation to play is way to great!  That is my excuse for a late submission today, can you really blame me?

IMG_0004New York Fashion Week is officially underway.  Devastated as reversecommuter is to have missed Jonathan Simkhai‘s crazy good show yesterday, at least I can drown my sorrows with a phenomenal margarita beachside.

YVL_1294 The signature ‘meshiness’ of his clothes makes me want to invest and layer up in Jonathan Simkhai pieces from head to toe, now and with the new Fall 2015 collection.

Ready for a clever segway?

Moda Operandi, the online boutique of immediate fashion gratification, has just received $60 MILLION Series E financing, with the most generous funding coming from Boston’s own Fidelity Investments.  Great news for any fashion fan who NEEDS/WANTS the latest luxury fashion directly from the runway.

The lines Moda Operandi carries include Jonathan Simkhai.  See how I did that?  🙂

Speaking of clever, chalk up another brilliant business move by Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon. Amazon just signed on as a major sponsor of Fashion Week, (starting with the upcoming Men’s Fashion Week), but reversecommuter predicts with the opening left by the departing Mercedez Benz, perhaps Amazon’s deep pockets could help NYFW like not many other sponsors could…

Bezos has grand fashion inspirations for Amazon (click here for more) so this new relationship is so very important!

Enjoy the weekend, ignore the impending snow storms and pop the cork on that champs with wild abandon…while wearing something romantic & fabulous!

Wide leg culottes – buy them now.  Wear them now with sandals, flip flops or heels.  Parlay them into fall with ankle boots, brogues and a denim jacket.  Winterize them with boots.

Navy Blue.  Classic, cool, rich, navy blue.  (full disclosure, this is reversecommuter’s all time fave color!!)  Invest in a great piece worthy of this color.  Think navy blue blazer (so good with ripped jeans, shorts and patterned pants).  Maybe a navy blue jumpsuit.  Something meaningful, significant and navy.

Lace has invaded the runway in a Valentino pleasing manner!  Veronica Beard, Jonathan Simkhai, Oscar de la Renta, 3.1 Philip Lim, Cynthia Rowley and more, all offering gorgeous, light, airy, lace detailed pieces.

Light blue.  Think robin’s egg and invest in it.  Rosie Assoulin and Jonathan Simkhai (who’s dress was inspired by broken glass shards), delivered my personal favorites.

Start lightly with a t-shirt or sweater, test drive the light blue color, fall in love deeply before a heavy investment.  This is a great color to break up the grey winter blahs!

Fashion & Finance Friday

Well HELLO Friday!

What is up with the cash rich Canadians?  First Hudson Bay Co. scoops up Saks Fifth Avenue for an eye-popping $2.4 BILLION, now the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board is buying Neiman Marcus for an illuminating $6 BILLION.  That is a lot of loonies and toonies ($1 & $2 Canadian dollar coins)!

LuluLemon’s stock is falling down, (pity the suburban masses don’t take note and stop wearing it daily…).  Apparently recalling Luon pants (the label’s bread and butter item), running the company without a CEO and the over-expansion of retail shops (201 stores), is having a negative impact on projected growth.  shocker.

NYFW is done.  What a whirlwind of fabulousness and some notsofabulousness…uh, Alexander Wang are you too thinly spread to design?  Parental Advisory shirts, really?

My heart belongs to Proenza Schouler’s Spring line up.  Texture, cut, shape, ease, buttery suede, rich color palate, classic lines, absolute deliciousness for the wardrobe!  (photos courtesy of Style.com – thank you Tim Blanks!)

Hope your weekend plans include watching the NYFW show recaps, wearing something that rocks your world and a glass of champs!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

NYFW (New York Fashion Week) the average cost of a fashion show is a ballpark $750,000.00.  NYFW also generates $865 MILLION ANNUALLY!!!!  WOWZER!

Google Glass was THE accessory at the Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2013 show. Sergey Brin, a Google co-founder and Diane hung out together backstage, pre-show to record, text and take pictures all through the one lensed wonder. Google is planning to launch then next year for approximately $1500.00.

Wonder if the models got to keep theirs?

Google released a short film, “DVF Through the Glass” to deliver what was captured at NYFW – COOL COOL F’ING COOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Diane, has the reversecommuter mentioned lately that you are DIVINE!!!!

Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend…chill, hug the ones you love and recover from NYFW!
