Fashion & Finance Friday!

What is it about Friday that instantaneously adds a big smile?!

NYFW is over, LFW is began today.  Snow to rain, fabulous fashion to fabulous fashion.

Marc Jacobs ended the shows in NYC, and he did not disappoint! Rich luxe colored furs, caramels, winter whites, mod patterns sequins, a little lace, some hand stitched organza and quite possibly some of the most beautiful dresses presented in a long time.  Almost like a celebration of his emancipation from other lines (Louis Vuitton) to give his line the love it demands!

Ralph Lauren’s collection was dreamy and rich, a line up of soft grey and purple and cream floated down the runway, dripping in cashmere, satin and wool crepes.  reversecommuter was hoping Ralph would end the show in one of those INCREDIBLE U.S. Olympic uniform sweaters, but alas his only nod to the snowy sports celebration was to be found on his feet!

Tod’s owner and all round favorite Italian patriarch (click here for why) is having a little spat with Fiat, or to be more specific with Fiat heir John “Yaki” Elkann, grandson to founder Gianni Agnelli.  The two “gentlemen” are throwing insults at each other in the media (click here to have a giggle), in a war of words that starting over soccer (football in the rest of the world except the U.S.).  The luxury Italian leather maker is also the owner of a soccer/football club in Italy, and it happens to be the main rival of the Fiat owned team.

I rigazzi sono rigazzi – that’s “Boys will be boys” in Italian!

On that note, pop some prosecco while wearing your cutest weekend get-up and celebrate love over this Valentine weekend!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

How is it Friday already?  WHOOOP WHOOOP!

Qatar royal family’s investment company, Mayhoola, bought Valentino Fashion Group for $858 MILLION!  That’s a lot of cashoola!

reversecommuter was fortunate enough to see the Valentino exhibit in Rome a couple of years ago – AMAZEBALLS!!!!!!  (even better from inside the exhibit but alas, no photos allowed).

Burberry and Levi’s both announced drops in sales – and the analysts are in agreement that tougher times are ahead regarding retail numbers.  This is alarming as these two  fashion firms are polarized on pricing – one represents high priced goods and one the low price point of a simple pair of jeans… in terms of the words of Scooby Doo – “Rut Ro!”

Ralph Lauren designed the US Olympic Team’s uniforms, which were unveiled yesterday on the Today Show and online at RalphLauren.com (see here by clicking).  The collection has taken a lot of heat, and not in a good way.  Going out on an edge, reversecommuter is digging the ceremony newsboy (click & buy) and not totally hating the collection.

Especially when you take a moment to look at Armani’s designs for the Italian Olympians…um, notso benne.

Proenza Schouler opens the doors on their very first boutique today in NYC, 822 Madison Avenue to be exact.  NEEDLESS to say, reversecommuter will be spending some time and money in those fabulous 2000 square feet on her next trip to the Big Apple!

Cool didyaknow fact – Proenza Schouler used to be associated with Valentino Fashion Group, and is now partnered up with the founder of Theory.

(see how I tied all that together?  neat, huh?)

Happy Weekend!
