Designer Sneaks

Remember when a pair of sneakers were just something to wear to workout in?

Those days are gonezola people.  High end designers have gotten into the game and the sneaks are snazzy!

The prices can be startling too.  But for art and fashion we happily pay.

Golden Goose Deluxe Brand, from Italy is a major player in the designer sneaker club.  Basic cut, either low or high top, ALWAYS with the signature leather star, then add sparkles, suede or buttery soft Italian leather with an unbelievably comfortable insole.  The $500 price tag is up there but once you try, you fall in love and buy.
Ports 1961 knot sneaker is a yummy design that translates beautifully season after season.  Leather, satin, velvet or the newest offering multi-print knot is establishing itself as a major contender.  A $700 price tag, and rarely can you find them on sale.

Gucci’sAlessandro Michele has adorned Gucci’s adidas Stan Smith inspired sneakers with bumble bees, hearts, studs, snakes and/or stripes.

All of which can be matched to a gorgeous handbag or clothing piece from Gucci’s couture or ready to wear line.  Grazie Miele Alessandro!

Alessandro has deemed sales are no longer part of Gucci’s retail existence, so buying a pair of the sneakers is really a smart investment, at a cool $950.  (clearly I am the one you need to help you justify a purchase…)

Saint Laurent made it exceptionally easy for reversecommuter to choose her sneakers – palm trees!

January being the month of avid fitness and New Years resolutioners crowding the gym, set yourself apart from the crowd with some serious kicks!

Palm Trees

reversecommuter’s favorite hashtag on twitter and instagram is #ineedapalmtree…wherever palm trees are it has been practically scientifically proven that I am happiest! IMG_7895

My favorite whine is seemingly now trending with designers for Spring 2015!

It didn’t hurt that the setting was a tropical stretch of beach on the Mexican Riviera and that the shop is the cutest little white box holding the most wondrous colors of the rainbow cut into flowy silhouettes that work on every single post beach babe that walks in!

reversecommuter first happened upon Josa three years ago on my first visit to Tulum (insert sighs, floating hearts and happy faces here).

DSC_0115

Josa’s coverups walk right off the beach into the bar, restaurant or wherever.

IMG_7732

Some models come with built in bras, some are made of über forgiving jersey that hides almost every single sticky finger print your child offers up, and you still look WOAH at the end of the day because the material, print and pattern are still fun and fresh!

v851_large

Josa Tulum has just launched their new & improved website which makes it MUCH easier to grab a little piece of boho beachy style, even when the graying chunks of snow are still littering the ground – I am so not kidding, the stuff refuses to melt!

houston1_large

Josa Tulum went to NYC for coterie in February (think massive fashion shopping event for store buyers), so fingers crossed there will be some BIG news from that wondrous little shop sometime in the very near future…hint hint #calypso…

Colorfully Cold!

What a difference 24 hours makes.   #understatement

Beach and palm trees one day, snow drifts taller than me the next.  OLE!

oleBest way to beat the winter blahs is to continue the brilliant hues of the tropics.    House of Holland’s brilliant purple jersey sweatshirt begs for a drink with an umbrella in it:

Old Man Winter get ready for a pop of color and a show of leg!  Wear this sunshiny yellow skirt from J Crew with a turtleneck, a jean jacket and a simple tall boot to completely shock the cold!

Wear a sweater to keep warm but brighten up the outfit with Jonathan Simkhai’s multicolor sweater, delivering a hint of blue sky no matter what is going on outside!

Better than an extra large dose of vitamin D (although reversecommuter highly recommends that as well!).

Tropical Polish

It is snowing again. Dumping obscene amounts of snow across New England. Boston’s suburbs are blanketed, school is shut down and the record books are quivering with delight at the new heights reached with the freezing cold white stuff.
reversecommuter could choose to wax on about Snowmageddon 2015, but instead I’ve chosen to zero in on tropical nail Polish offerings.

IMG_0064

What’s better than a brilliantly cute named, beach friendly OPI nail polish to take the brrrr out of February?

Isn’t it amazing the power of a good pedicure? Practically transports you to a beach!

Full Disclosure – reversecommuter has escaped the snow for the next couple of weeks…and brought the polish for touch ups!

O.W.O. Palm Beach Coverup

Nothing like a phenom bikini – Shan is THE only swimsuit I wear ❤️❤️❤️

Next step to poolside happiness is a stellar coverup and all is good in the post-turkey pre-holidaze craze!

More of a palm tree gawker but even I need to recognize how beautiful fall foliage is!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Greetings & Salutations to the Weekend!!!!!

Timing is everything!  Yes, reversecommuter got to take camel selfies and shop at Chanel in Dubai in April, but I completely botched the opportunity to attend the 2014 Chanel Cruise Collection held in Dubai on May 13th.

Camel Selfie!

Camel Selfie!

The CHA CHA appreciative Dubai audience was appropriately quilted, double C jewelry and bel adorn, and there were also a few black abayas, scarved heads (Chanel scarves obvi!), and some Keffiyehs scattered amongst the audience sitting upon pillows on the ground of the most glamorous tent ever created complete with indoor palm trees and shishas!

Push_Look_2.jpg.fashionImg.hi

The fashion seemed perfectly tailored for the U.A.E. crowd, with veils, Chanel’s diamond encrusted crescent moon hair clips, gold lamè pants, the obligatory fabulous tweed, pearl dotted quilted bags and sunglasses and oodles of Kurta pajama inspired skinny pants.

Chanel’s 2014 Cruise collection (available in October fyi!), went far beyond beautiful – it was like watching a magical performance of Alladin meets Lawrence of Arabia, complete with the best transe filled soundtrack. King Karl said that Dubai is “…interesting and exciting…the modern thought of the world… mix of the old world and the new world…it is the 21st Century Chanel.  Dubai is the home of the tallest buildings in the world, it was time for an Oriental revival.”  BRAVO KING KARL!!

Rumor on the money street is that there may be a takeover in the works for Lululemon.  The yoga pant machine has been suffering with low stock price, bumbling ex-CEO quotes insulting the curvaceous qualities of Lulu’s army of size 12+ devotees, and a couple of falsely labelled bamboo/not-bamboo pants headlines.

Some potential interested parties include NIKE, V.F. (as in Splendid, Ella Moss, Wrangler…) and even Columbia Sportswear.    Goes without saying this fashion blogger is doing a happy dance over the potential demise of the company responsible for the SINGLE WORST fashion trend to fall upon our society!  Toodles everyday lazy uniform of yoga pants, hello sportswear for sports!

Bellinis for everyone at least once this weekend!

Confessions…

reversecommuter has a confession to make…

DSC_0084

I really love stonewashed linen.

Bedding, curtains…

table linens, cushions…

even a simple robe to wear while enjoying the morning coffee.

A couple of my favorite sources (mainly European) are Ibeco, and H&M (believe it or not the retail behemoth offers amazing quality linens!!).  Click the blue to go shopping!

Oh, on the topic of confessions….

reversecommuter has temporarily escaped the snow, and is warming up at the beach (where the internet connection is sketchy at best!).

A small selection of reversecommuter’s Shan collection

Please don’t undermine the intensity of my decision making process.  The wrong selection could deeply affect my beach time…(not really).

The navy blue python tassel bikini it is!  Although the raspberry is still calling my name…

Shan delivers variety in every collection, with material, cut and style but fit is never an issue, always exactly as expected.  Hit the blue to go to Shan.ca and take in all of the 2014 Collection – both men’s and women’s, fyi!

souplesse_celeste_2_3

I haven’t tried Shan’s full piecers yet – at what time of your life do you bid adieu to the bikini – or do you? But that alas, is an entirely different conversation to be posted some other time!  😉
