Getting Public School’d

Public School was in Boston October 20th!  (Obviously I had to take a picture of the perfectly timed school bus sitting outside the W Hotel during the Public School party.)

img_7085

The CFDA 2013 winning design duo extraordinaire, were at Saks Fifth Avenue for a q&a session, followed by a private party for Public School held at the  W.

ps_ss16_9_2048x2048

The evening allowed Boston fashion fans to meet, ask questions, and even party late late late into the night with these incredibly talented and mad friendly designers.

Models rotated looks from the current and upcoming collections while the crowd posed, clinked glasses, danced and happily hung out with Dao Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne – or at least that is how reversecommuter did it!

The tartan biased cut skirt (think flannel tartan shirt tied sloppily at the waist and dangling down at various angles) was an absolute fave.  Public School’s current FW’16 collection offers this in a darker tartan, and the upcoming Spring ’17 collection it will be in black and white.

img_7084

Nothing better than a skirt designed to work with boots and a t-shirt or elevated with ankle boots and a leather top.  The beauty of Public School’s designs is that they can absolutely be worn every single day in the ‘burbs.  Ironic that when the children go to school the moms can wear Public School!

Public School‘s Fall 2016 magenta biker jacket better be in Santa’s sack for this blogger, it is THAT good a statement piece.  This brilliant jacket will make any grey winter day seem a little blast of tropical happiness blew in!

Public School is also launching the  Fitbit Alta collection, offering two sleek and stylish  models that will make capturing those alluring 10,000 steps even more of an accomplishment – ever notice how obsessive a behavior that can be?!

img_7082

reversecommuter has been a fan of this design duo for a while, the CFDA brought them to my attention, their designs have continued to capture my attention, and Maxwell Osborne’s Black Lives Matter letter to W Magazine fully delivered my loyalty.

ps my phone case is super cute (a Chanel perfume bottle shape with pink sparkles floating on the back – however my blurry pictures confirm it is infringing upon the camera lens – time to replace…

Fashion & Finance Friday!

What is better than waking up to a Friday morning?  HELLLLLOOOOOO Weekend!

The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Challenge launched the final leg of it’s competition before the winner unveiling gala in November.  The competition is SUPER COOL this year with the 10 semifinalists each being assigned a city in the U.S. to design an outfit (including a donated makeup palette tailored for each city by main sponsor Maybelline).  The cities include:  Austin, San Francisco, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Detroit, New York, Portland, Nashville, Honolulu, and Miami.   All designers will need to BLOW the judges away – no easy feat considering the panel, shown here at the Bowery rooftop patio in NYC.

The CFDA is the organization where Alexander Wang, Jonathan Simkhai, Veronica Beard, Public School and many other designers received their groundbreaking introduction, funding and exposure – this is where American fashion truly incubates!  reversecommuter is psyched to see what the designers deliver…

New Zealand lingerie company Bendon has just switched from one “The Body” to the other “The Body”.  Supermodel Elle Macpherson, the first “The Body” has been replaced by Heidi Klum, also otherwise known as “The Body”.

heidi-klum-elle-macpherson-vogue-16oct14-rex-b_426x639

A few years ago the two supermodels were on less than lovely terms as each attempted to own the nickname.  This shuffle in the lacy undergarment world will most likely not add any warmth to the relationship.

After a 25 year relationship with Elle Macpherson, Bendon at least maintains continuity with supermodel nicknames!

ps a ton of Elle Macpherson’s Intimate lingerie is on sale BIG TIME on the website!!!

Fill the champs flute, do a little lacy, frilly online shopping and ring in the weekend!

Mother Denim has a killer jumpsuit (The Riveter in Danny Boy Navy) that would take all the misery out of the weekend morning ritual of standing naked in the closet screaming “IHAVENOTHINGTOWEAR!!!!!!.

Thank the powers above, the weekend has arrived!!!!!!!!!

Bergdorf Goodman (aka my mecca) is about to get a facelift, starting with the 6th floor.  Rumor has it the space will be transformed into an emerging talent incubator, replacing sportswear and lingerie.  Shopping will not be affected nor will hard hats be mandatory.

Unknown-1

With up and coming talents like Jonathan Simkhai, Public School and Rosie Assoulin (reversecommuter’s crazy big fashion crushes), an area dedicated to emerging talent is a BRILLIANT idea.

Top Bloggers are raking in the dough-ray-me!  According to an article this week, the tippy-top of the blogosphere aka Bryan Boy, man repeller, Elin Kling etc, can command up to $50,000 for a personal appearance and even get up to $3000 for a sponsored instagram posting.  Bryan Boy’s quote = a great definition of fashion happiness to the NTH degree: “I’ve made enough to live comfortably and be able to not wear samples and buy my clothes retail.”

Hot Diggity it is finally here!!!!  Happy Friday!!

Fashion reporters make news too.  Sartorialist favorite Bruce Pask for instance, (nope, he isn’t just some impeccably dressed dude who happens to always get snapped!).

imgres-5

Pask, formerly the men’s fashion director for the New York Times, has joined Bergdorf Goodman as the most magical retailer in the universe’s men’s fashion director.  CONGRATS!

imgres-6

And not to leave out the ladies, The New York Times has scooped Vanessa Friedman, ultra classy fashion editor of the Financial Times, as fashion director and chief fashion critic.  Vanessa will be replacing UBER fashion journalism institution Suzy Menkes, who announced she was leaving the NYTimes last month.

Everybody do The Happy Dance!  It’s finally Friday!!

The CFDA offers it’s winning contestants mentoring as part of the package.  NYC’s Public School won this year, and they are now going to be guided by the President of Alexander Wang (who by the way, is not actually Alexander Wang, but rather Rodrigo Bazan).  This year’s runners up are Marc Alarv and Juan Carolos Obando.  Marc is going to be mentored by Tomas Maier (OHEMGEEEE) and Juan Carolos will received industry guidance from the CEO of Proenza Schouler.

reversecommuter thinks that in this instance coming in second wasn’t so bad!  🙂

Travel is a great fashion influencer.  Whenever reversecommuter travels, a new look is discovered.  Recently in Miami (click here for more on that little bit of sunshine) I noticed a serious love of boots & shorts put together.  It ranged from sequin shorts and a plain tank, jean cutoffs with over the knee suede boots and even khaki shorts with a leather hiking boot.

reversecommuter loves the opportunity to take a look and translate it into my own style – that is what fashion is all about!

Victoria Beckham is a busy designer jetsetting all across the Pond.  Recently in NYC for a whirlwind 2 day visit, looking dynamite in reversecommuter’s all time fave color – navy blue.

article-2537969-1A94ACEF00000578-448_306x719

Victoria recently announced she will be setting up a NYC based office for her label, and will be opening a stand alone boutique for her line in London.  Stating that after building the brand for the past five years, she is now ready to deliver a shop catering to her clients’ tastes and needs.  LOVE!!!

Wishing you a weekend filled with bubbles, fun outings and perhaps even a fab outfit combining shorts & boots!
