Fashion & Finance Friday!

How is it the word “Friday” evokes a big a*s grin, every single week?

Fast Fashion mammoth, Zara, was the focus of a brilliant piece in the NY Times earlier this week (click here to read the full article).

According to the NY Times, an average consumer buys 164 pieces annually. Perhaps such a high number could be reduced if the consumer focused on acquiring quality pieces. Quality not quantity….just saying.

Sak’s Fifth Avenue is blaming Hurricane Sandy. Sales forecasts are down for the remainder of 2012, and Saks says it’s due to the impact the hurricane had on it’s business. The NYC flagship represents 20% of Saks sales, and as the flagship was closed as a result of Sandy, as well as online sales down, Saks is bracing for a less than stellar end of year.

Salvatore Ferragamo released sales profit numbers are up 8%. reversecommuter stayed at one of the Ferragamo boutique hotels in Florence this past week, and it is no surprise that sales are up – this family truly has been bitten by the style bug! Gorgeous Gorgeous Bellisimo!

Shamps, Hip and Ole!

Imagine reversecommuter’s delight while sitting at her fave tapas restaurant Boqueria in (gasp, surprise, and obvious sarcasm) Soho, when her Handsome Husband (aka HH) leant over the table and said “Who knew we were still this cool?”  Sitting in Soho, sipping on a mango sangria, chomping on a little serano ham and manchengo, people watching GALORE and happy as a friggin’ Spanish chorizo!

Leaving the ‘burbs for a quick NYC getaway poses all kinds of packing problems.  My goal was a carry-on.  Yeah Yeah, laugh all you want but guess what?!  I DID IT!!!!!!  I packed three dresses, a silk blouse, a tank, a pair of hot pink jeans (you never know), a pair of Louboutains, some lingerie (did I mention we were away from our children for 40 hours), 3oz flight friendly toiletries, a hairbrush, a camera, an iPad, a charger, and a Britsh Vogue (don’t leave home without it!).

So for our big night out, I chose an T by Alexander Wang navy blue dress, Louboutain nude patent pumps and a little DVF clutch.  It was a little chilly that night but nothing some bubbles wouldn’t warm up!

Dinner was done, and just when I thought we headed to snoozeville, the big surprise occurs…HH announces that we MUST hit the rooftop bar at the Paramount.   Uh, excuse me Daddy of 3, where did the hip-and-hot-must-hit-list come from?  HOW LUCKY AM I?!!!!  Heck yeah, let’s go daddy-o!

Rooftop bar hanging over 5th Avenue, clear views of the Trump Tower (complete with lit up foliage about 30 floors up), distant lights of the Louis Vuitton boutique, a hint of a view of Bergdorf Goodman and Central Park, and the delish people circulating about the bar was bananas!

After a glass or two of shamps (purrrrrrrrr) and downloading about eight songs a la Shazam (part of my new summer playlist will remind me of my uber cool NYC night out), we were leaving.  But not before I fell in love with this great painting hanging in the elevator foyer:

Here is the artist’s signature (which I still find illegible), so if anyone knows who this is, PLEASE let me know!

We got back to our hotel and put the signage on the door.
