Sensational Simkhai at Saks!

Saks Fifth Avenue hosted the ridiculously fabulous Jonathan Simkhai for a day of style, swings and seriously decadent designer wear.

‚Äčreversecommuter has been consistent in my adoration and appreciation for the design and talent of Jonathan Simkhai

Seriously, take a tour through the past four years of this blog and count the numerous mentions of one of my absolute favorite designers!

Fun story about the white lace top I am wearing – Saks special ordered three of these for the event, and all three were snapped up before 2pm yesterday, in fact we were all trying them on at the same time, three dressing rooms in a row!

Yesterday’s Saks event was tremendous and proves that Jonathan Simkhai is a designer that knows what his clients desire.  Despite his crazy busy schedule, international clientele and mind-boggling success – he danced with Gigi & Kendal for Vogue for Pete’s Sake, he was absolutely in the moment in Boston.

Jonathan was literally running between jam packed dressing rooms yesterday, meeting and greeting his clients as well as offering customized one on one alterations and suggestions.  #fashionswoon!ūüíē

He suggested I try this dress on – so obviously I did!

Sadly it was too big but perhaps a revisit may occur if an appropriate event pops up on the calendar – I’m thinking of a gala in June…or maybe this white lace and cotton full length dress which I absolutely covet (despite my goofy face in this pic!).

The clothes are decadent, feminine and yet strong at the same time.  Fancy lace detail paired with chambray denim or cotton that allows the client to interpret the way she wants to wear the piece – flip flops, sandals or Stillettos, casual patio lunch or dreamy date night.  This is the attribute that makes Jonathan Simkhai a favorite designer.  This red dress will be a perfect summer piece and I can pair it with gold flat sandals or a heel.  Dressed up or down, a Simkhai piece makes you walk just that little bit taller & happier!

The more I learn about the man Jonathan Simkhai and his incredibly talented, crazy intelligent team the more I own the validity of my four year & counting style crush.ūüíē

Colette, tres coquette!

On a recent trip to Paris, there was one store I hit over and over again.

Colette an institution in Paris and throughout the fashion world, is one of THE best shops.
When I arrived in Paris Colette¬†had started their winter sale, and the store was jammed! ¬†The window had blue blow up men wiggling in the breeze, D.J.’s were banging out the most incredible sounds and the crowds were trying hard to look casual while grabbing the uber cool discounted threads from drool worthy designers.

A few days later I went back – honestly I could not help myself, I LOVE Colette!

The Spring Collections had magically appeared, the blue blowing dudes were gone from the window and the most mesmerizing brilliant designer pieces were draped artistically over mannequins throughout the upper floor.

Colette is unique in that it is a designer clothing boutique upstairs and has a veritable playroom in the street level complete with books, candles, candy and tech gadgets galore! ¬† One of my favorite post-Parisian rituals is unpacking my Colette purchases and falling in love all over again. ¬†‚̧

Favorite Parisian Drugstore Buys

Trips to Paris do not have to cost a lot of money.  Small pharmacy purchases are the secret, (aka les Petits Objets).

Some of my favorite purchases are made at the pharmacy. And that is a budget friendly store found on many Parisian corners.  There is something so fun about searching through a drugstore that is not a cvs and seems somehow so glamorous, how stereotypically French is that?  As French as a French poodle wearing his Goyard collar!

Marvis toothpaste is a must, especially at half the price that it is in the US.

Klorane hair products are some of my absolute favorites.  Blondes love the camomile line, but there are a multitude of options available.  Mango butter shampoo anyone?  Yummaroo!

Klorane is a natural plant based hair care company, and one of those lines that actually delivers immediate improvement to your hair.  ‚̧ that!

Nuxe body oil is pure magic.  I always stock up on it in Paris as half price is better than full – plus it leaves more euros for other purchases.  Nuxe is the only after shower oil that saves me from New England winter dry skin.

Et voila!

Style Mafia Bella!

Miami Swim Week.  What part of that statement doesn’t deliver excitement?

A beach lined city of pulsating music, bikini clad models strutting the newest swimwear lines on floating swimming pool runways, Latino energy and fashion, fashion, fashion.

I may never go home.  Seriously.

One event reversecommuter was lucky enough to attend was Coast’s rooftop party presenting a handpicked lot of designers and their incredible lines.  Designers included Acid NYC, Luxchillas, YannaK and Style Mafia.

Style Mafia is a Miami based line of beautifully designed clothing, incredible craftsmanship and seriously ridiculous-in-the-good-way pricing.

Ruffles, pinstripes, off-the-shoulder tops, cropped frayed pants, scalloped tanks and tops, flirty crop tops and nautical striped flowing tops in a clever color assortment.

‚Äč‚Äč
Valeska and Simmonett Perera are the mother/ daughter masterminds behind Style Mafia.  Creating a line that didn’t break the bank yet still delivered trend on fashion was the absolute goal.

No exaggeration, I saw the Maeve top in yellow and thought it was Fendi.  The price on the Maeve top is $69.

Valeska (on the far left), having just returned from traveling abroad to Lebanon and Columbia, was not exhibiting any jet lag at the party, but rather was warm and friendly towards the crowd of Mafia Style fashionistas!

Sarong SO Right!

The next time you find yourself longingly stroking a scarf or sarong

thinking that yet another purchase would be “so wrong” (tee hee)

think lovingly of THE easiest, chicest beach outfit option, and swipe that credit card like a boss!

T-shirt, espadrilles or flip flops and GO Beach Baby GO!

Sexy Lingerie Partout en Paris!

reversecommuter spent Easter in Paris and as a result I have come to conclusion that French women love their lingerie. ¬†Like really love their lingerie. ¬†As I am quite sure the French men do as well ūüėČ ¬†Maybe even like lingerie more than les patisseries (bakery).

paris

It is truly everywhere in Paris.   Walking about the Parisian streets one is suddenly in possession of a burning desire to buy MANY lacy, frilly pieces of lingerie in a great variety of colors and styles.  A neutral t-shirt bra did not make the shopping list AT ALL!

Printemps is a gorgeous, huge, designer stocked department store that has dedicated an entire floor just to frilly bits.  Beautiful, florals, bright hot pinks, seductive blacks, lacy, racy, frilly, sexy, sumptuous lingerie.

Aubade is one of reversecommuter’s favorite lingerie lines, and whenever I am in Europe I try to stock up due to better selection and price. ¬†Their trademark lace up design is tr√©s coquette (very flirty).

La Perla is another crowd pleaser that held major real estate in the Printemps store.  DROOLWORTHY lingerie.

La Perla’s Everyday Essentials is a new line, softer pricing and ridiculously soft cotton. ¬†reversecommuter has numerous pairs of the drawstring pants and tanks – makes for great post bubble bath hangout wear, comfy with a subtle side of sexy (and less than a pair of yoga pants).

There is also Princess Tam Tam, which has stand alone stores plus is in Printemps.  Great selection and even better prices.

Sort of a sexier version of Victoria’s Secret, imagine that!

So here is a golden nugget of knowledge.  Lingerie makes the outfit.  It reminds you that  you are STILL the sexy little vixen you were before becoming a mother, a chauffeur, a cook, a laundress and a nose wiper extraordinaire.  So take a moment to tour the links littered throughout this post, and treat yourself (and the one you love) to a quick Parisian update to your wardrobe.

“Not As Flat As Her” – O.W.O.

Yup, some lady in a shop actually pointed to me and said that, LOUDLY, when describing to a salesperson the shape of her daughter.  Stellar Moment.

Nothing like a teeny weeny Italian bikini to make a girl grateful¬†for her “limitations”.
