Dumb Down the Price

Celine’s Fall 2014 Collection had a long knit turtleneck that made reversecommuter crumble, drool and stutter.  It was ❤️at first sight…right up to the $2000 price tag.

I justified that it was too limiting a piece for that type of investment.  Point on revelation but I still really, really loved it.

Fast forward to now.  In the ‘burbs, armed with a rake.

Wearing a $30 turtleneck from Zara.

Yeah, that’s pretty much how it feels!

Mom Speak Fashion Translation

Versace’s Fall Couture 2015 was etheral.  The best dressed rockstar fairies ever!

_VER0934

Chanel’s Fall 2015 Couture was terrifically tweedy and fantastically luxe.

_024_CHA0385

But what exactly are moms’ supposed to wear to go pick raspberries?

IMG_9300

We deal with runny noses, messy love filled hugs and toppled ice cream cone sticky kisses.  Donatella and Karl don’t really design for these.

IMG_9301

reversecommuter adores high end fashion, and loves translating it into everyday speak.  Fashion is fun, not intimidating.  Fall Couture’s message thus far is a softer color palate and a more classic take on clothes.  But it is summer now, so brighten up your outfits with some color and a smile!  Slap on a pair of silk shorts and a tank top, grab a cute pair of sandals and a floppy hat and work that runway of life like nobody’s business!

Clogged

One thing with fabulous fashion trends and styles is that they eventually repeat.

AA2X0120

Clogs are back this Spring with a solid wooden-heeled thunk!

IMG_7690

Marc Jacobs clogged up his Spring 2015 runway with color coordinated Dr. Scholl-esque shoes that are SO cute…ranging in price between $2000 – $2300, and selling out fast as per NYC boutique!

AA2X0208

Gold, Military Green, Navy Blue (obviously reversecommuter is SUPER happy about that!), velvet, satin twill and suede – take your pick and stomp all over town owning that wooden statement!

504296_e1_xl

Gucci has a heeled version with all the stomping power needed to get through the day.

IMG_7696

Bits, leather and wood – yummy…and $850.  Worth the investment – reverse commuter bought a pair of Gucci clogs in the late nineties (I KNOW!!!!) and they are still every bit as gorgeous now!

Dr. Scholl (as in the original clog meister) still delivers a collection in plain and stripes!

3098417-p-MULTIVIEW-1

Super duper delightful and budget loving at a modest $55 – seriously.

Whatever your spending limit, run like a little Dutch girl to pick up a pair of wooden clogs for Spring 2015!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

First day of Spring and it falls on a Friday!  WHOOOP!!!!!!!!!!

(reversecommuter will not even comment on the fact that it will snow here in Boston later this evening…)

Cavalli trumps Pucci – it is ON in Italy!  Roberto Cavalli announced this week that Peter Dundas will return to the casa de Cavalli after a hiatus from the house of animal-print-body-hugging-plunging-cleavage designs, where he worked between 2002 through 2005.

CAV_0105

Dundas was the creative director of Pucci from 2008 through to this February’s Milan Fashion Week.

_MON0010

Pucci moved quickly to report that MSGM’s Massimo Giorgetti will be Dundas’ replacement.

CAV_0945

“Dramma” – that is drama in Italiano!

_AG19247

“Pavement Cracker” Kanye has done it yet again, and Choupette is pissed!  Kanye West X Adidas out clicked Chanel and any other collection during the fashion weeks, the closest second was Chanel by 1 MILLION!!!!!!!!

klagerfeld_choupette_v_20dec12_pr_b_426x639

Naturally the Yezzy Boosts are all sold out.

adidas-yeezy-boost-detailed-images-1

Should be interesting to see what happens to the rest of the ahem…collection.  If you cannot fight the urge to purchase, Barney’s just announced they will be carrying all the yeeziness!

01_Yeezy_season1

Put that black turtleneck in the very back of your closet, pull out the brilliantly bright stilettos and celebrate the end of winter with a click of your heels and a clink of your champagne flute!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Blogging with an ocean view is not as easy as it sounds – the temptation to play is way to great!  That is my excuse for a late submission today, can you really blame me?

IMG_0004New York Fashion Week is officially underway.  Devastated as reversecommuter is to have missed Jonathan Simkhai‘s crazy good show yesterday, at least I can drown my sorrows with a phenomenal margarita beachside.

YVL_1294 The signature ‘meshiness’ of his clothes makes me want to invest and layer up in Jonathan Simkhai pieces from head to toe, now and with the new Fall 2015 collection.

Ready for a clever segway?

photo-1

Moda Operandi, the online boutique of immediate fashion gratification, has just received $60 MILLION Series E financing, with the most generous funding coming from Boston’s own Fidelity Investments.  Great news for any fashion fan who NEEDS/WANTS the latest luxury fashion directly from the runway.

Unknown

The lines Moda Operandi carries include Jonathan Simkhai.  See how I did that?  🙂

Speaking of clever, chalk up another brilliant business move by Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon. Amazon just signed on as a major sponsor of Fashion Week, (starting with the upcoming Men’s Fashion Week), but reversecommuter predicts with the opening left by the departing Mercedez Benz, perhaps Amazon’s deep pockets could help NYFW like not many other sponsors could…

img-jeff-bezos-met-gala-2012_160846316382.jpg_carousel_parties

Bezos has grand fashion inspirations for Amazon (click here for more) so this new relationship is so very important!

Enjoy the weekend, ignore the impending snow storms and pop the cork on that champs with wild abandon…while wearing something romantic & fabulous!

O.W.O. An Ode to Raf

One Weekend Outfit (O.W.O.) this week is reversecommuter’s personal shootout to Raf Simmons and his deliriously exquisite presentation of Dior’s Spring 2015 Collection during Paris Fashion Week.

DIO_0619

Namely the inclusion of the classic black Bermuda short.

photo 1

Go buy a pair now.  Wear them with long coats, blazers, vests, sleeveless jackets, etc.  This is an example of a classic piece that should be in your wardrobe.

DIO_0902

Just please do yourself a fashion favor and purchase the Bermuda shorts.  Knee socks not mandatory.

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Still warm enough for open toe shoes and it’s Friday – Double Whammy of Awesomeness!

Viva Forever - Press Night Arrivals

Victoria Beckham opened her first store yesterday in London and it is an environment of beauty worthy of her luxe line.  The architecture, the lighting, the cascading videos walls showcasing her fashion shows, the clean lines throughout and the simplicity of the clothing presentation is jaw droopingly perfect.

reversecommuter cannot wait to experience 36 Dover Street in London in person.

LAN_0815

Alber Elbez is a genius in clothing design and in understanding women.  He prepared for Lanvin’s Paris Fashion Week show by sitting in cafes watching women walk by, busy in their lives.  Alber realized that to women fashion is “all or nothing”, and the collection reflected this brilliantly.

LAN_0467

Elbez also brought back a few of his favorite models to walk the show to help celebrateLanvin’s 125th anniversary.  He stated that the more experienced models (aka older) didn’t need nearly as much makeup as the younger crew.

LAN_0685

Alber weighs the success of a dress by whether or not he can see the model’s face.  reversecommuter LOVES this!  You know that moment when you put on an outfit and you feel invincible, gorgeous and positive all at once?

LAN_0755

So does Alber Elbez and that is how he creates.  Tremendous reason to increase my obsession with Lanvin.

Live this weekend like you don’t have children that wake up at 6am.  Pop the champs with wild abandon that definitely does not reflect all the chauffeuring, sports activities, playdates and chores that await you the next morning!

Transatlantic Transcendence!

Bibhu Mohapatra is a designer who deftly manipulates fur, fabric and designs into jaw dropping elegance.

bibhu2

New York based Mohapatra began working for J Mendel, Parisien furrier extraordinare.  Bibhu travelled to Paris to work with Mendel’s father, Jacques, who taught Bibhu the intricacies of working with fur.

_LKV3633

In 2009 Mahapatra launched his first solo collection, notably his main focus was evening gowns and furs.  Bibhu’s Spring 2015 Collection had been spinning around in his mind for a couple of years but despite a vague nautical direction, the full definition was somewhat incomplete.

images-1

Until two years ago when Bibhu Mohapatra sailed transatlantic for seven days on The Queen Mary, with his partner, spotty internet,  and a library littered with random yet fascinating titles.  His book of choice was a biography on Nancy Cunard, heiress to the Cunard shipping line,  an adventurous woman who’s spirit inspired Bibhu.   Cunard, along with the transatlantic voyage, helped to seamlessly create and define Bibhu Mohapatra’s Spring 2015 Collection.

_LKV3689

The Spring 2015 Collection offers an interesting element of fur, an element notably absent from most designers when presenting that season.  Bibhu’s mastery in working with fur to make it pretty, fun and light are a testimony to his years learning the trade.  Saks Fifth Avenue carries his line, a must!

_LKV3572

His cuts and tailoring are masterfully appreciative of the female body, slipping into one of his dresses is like being luxuriously cucooned in the finest fabrics perfectly molded onto your body.  It is truly an experience better than chocolate!

_LKV3668

Evening gowns with spiralgraph-esque patterns cascading down the skirt, a pattern Bibhu created himself.  But if evening gowns are not currently part of your wardrobe, he has extended his creations to cigarette pants and organza flanked crop tops in the same swirly  movement.

bibhu3

Furs in a perfect pink, manipulated into looking like polyantha roses (perfect tiny super fragrant roses) set on buttery soft leather in that same exact perfect pink.

_LKV3529

Beautiful beading can be found throughout the collection, and Bibhu told me the secret to it’s decadence.

Bibhu1

He uses a beader who relocated to India from Paris, and is also the Balenciaga beader.  The detailed work speaks for itself!

photo 2-2

reversecommuter was fortunate enough to be invited to play dress up in this delicious little number I dubbed ‘naughty Mrs. Cleaver goes on safari’ (much to the amusement of Bibhu!).  The tight fitting bodice is enveloped with a satin filled skirt that playfully offers the most decadent of details – pockets!  The safari reference comes from an unexpected frivolity on the back of the dress, two trench styled flaps that sit on the shoulder blades – SO FUN!

Silly sidebar moment – I told Bibhu I was mildly obsessed with look #10 from his NYFW and he immediately pulled this dress.  Apparently we share an obsession!

photo 1-2

The Collection is fun, as is the designer.  He is grateful to where he is at this exact moment, and wants to grow “with baby steps, surround himself with good people and focus on his passion.”  His energy, confidence and warmth are intoxicating, almost as much as his clothing.

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Sunshine plus the end of the week = giddy fashion blogger!

DSquared2 (the beyond brilliant line by twin Canadian brothers Dan & Dean Caten) is about to open a store in the U.S., finally in my humble opinion, on Rodeo Drive.

DSQ_0885

reversecommuter has loved/obsessed over these designers since waaaaaaaay back to my very first job, retail shop girl for Ports International when Dan & Dean were the head designers.

DSQ_0757

DSquared2 presented their Spring 2015 show yesterday in Milan and it did not disappoint! They are mad geniuses (or is that genuii?) for denim – their jeans are the truest form of beauty that no other denim designer has ever touched.

DSQ_0221

Add to that their shoes, bags, hats, dresses, trenches, not to mention leather and this line is truly one to be VERY excited about.  Not to mention, all the models were sporting eyewear that matched the twins – adorbs!

DSQ_0125

Etro and Missoni presented at Milan Fashion Week today and reversecommuter is now dreaming in technicolor gorgeousness!

_AG11518

Even in Fall Collections both of these houses work in bright rich tones, a perfectly timed reminder to embrace the rainbow as we slowly enter the colder months.

MIS_0067

Nothing makes black, grey and blue pop more than a hit of brilliance!

MIS_0172

Stella does it again!  Stella McCartney presented her Green Carpet Collection, highlighting a sustainable evening capsule collection and it not only makes the world a better  place, it also for quicker heart rates amongst fashion lovers!

images-3

“The green carpet is the most sought-after validation in the fashion world for sustainability and excellence,” and this collection is so pretty it is easy to forget it is all eco too!  Like falling into a decadent bowl of highlighter bright sorbet!

images-1

In a time of mass production, copying and reproductions and disposable fashion, Stella McCartney has once again risen to the tippetytop of designers.  FAB FAB FAB!!!!!!!!

Celebrate that which makes you pop like a champagne cork this weekend – but do it in a Milan Fashion Week worthy outfit!

Guccio Gucci (great-grandson of The Original Guccio Gucci, who founded Gucci) is under house arrest after being found guilty of fraudulent bankruptcy.  Guccio no longer works for the family firm (he left in 1989).   Rather he attempted to launch his own line of handbags, which didn’t work and he filed bankruptcy…and apparently syphoned the assets in an attempt to save a little money.  Not so buono Guccio.

Enjoy the last remnants of summer this weekend.  Champs o’clock!
