Fashion & Finance Friday

6 more sleeps till Santa comes / 3rd night of Hannukah and it is Friday – can you say Holiday Party?!?!?!

Just in case you are stumped in the “whatshouldIweartothatparty?” feel free to peruse the first 7 days of reversecommuter’s 12 Days of Christmas Party Outfits (or Holiday Party Outfits depending on what side of the menorah you are sitting on).

The shakeup that shook up horse bits around the world occurred again this week.  In case you were still sobbing loudly into to your velvet Tom Ford for Gucci tuxedo jacket, Gucci once again released their lead designer, Frida Gianini and the CEO, Patrizio di Marco, who interestingly are a real life couple and parents to a 2 year old.

Giannini will depart after her final collection is shown at the Milano fashion week ending February 25, and Patrizio will have become the world’s best dressed stay-at-home daddy beginning January 1, 2015.

Gucci’s holding company, Kering, shakes the world of interlocking G’s every now and then – Tom Ford anyone?!?!?! – and the reason behind this double dipped sword is based on sagging sales figures.  Mamma Mia that is one big lump of designer coal.

Speaking of Gucci Gucci Goo, the SEC has charged AVON for ding-donging some Chinese officials with goodies that included Gucci bags and trinkets from Tiffany’s.

The Avon bribes back in 2006 helped the door-to-door makeup company secure some of the early direct business selling licenses issued by the Chinese government to foreign companies.

$135 Million is the fine – that is a lot of Skin So Soft, just saying…

Whip yourself into a fancy dress frenzy, calm the nerves with a  perfectly chilled flute of champs and ignore the sore feet while you dance the night away on the very last weekend of Holiday Parties 2014!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Wasn’t it just Monday?  No Complaints here – Welcome to the Weekend!!!!!

Bottega Veneta knows a good thing when it has one, and it has for 13 years and counting!

Tomas Maier has been the (ridiculously handsome) creative director at the luxe leather weaver, as well as carrying his own line and boutiques.

TM Portrait Cruise 1213 Collier Schorr High.jpg

Maier’s designs for his own label are all about classic form, streamlines and structure.  Investing in his pieces is a wise play as there is very little trending about his clothing other than classic design.

Tomas has just opened a shop in NYC, to compliment his East Hampton and Palm Beach locations, and reversecommuter knows exactly where she is headed next New York jaunt!

Harvard Business Review just released it’s list of the Top 100 Performing CEO‘s, and retail has a huge positioning!  Please keep in  mind reversecommuter’s background is finance, so this merging of my two worlds (fashion & finance) makes me a little giddy!

Luxury fashion houses were not on the list at all but there were a few solid retail representations nonetheless.

Jeff Bezos, amazon.com’s leader is #1  / Japan’s Fast Retailing is #11(J Brand, Uniqlo, Theory are some of their better known lines) / TJX #51 (Maxxinistas everywhere rejoice!) / Nordstrom #54 / Macy’s #66 /Adidas #73 / Nike #76 / and closing up the rear in a most sparkly form, Tiffany #92.  HBR’s list is a great read, hit the link to see for yourself!

Happy Weekend – raise that flute, enjoy the bubbles and wear something special just because!

Inspiring NOT Stealing.

When I go get these done…

It’s Essie Tour de Finance.

Anywho, when I find myself stuck at the spa I notice that I actually take the time to see the details in a magazine.  Which leads me to adding to this little pile of ripped bits of inspiration.  Kinda like a hardcopy Pinterest board.

It isn’t stealing if it inspires me right?

ps I find that a decent fake cough almost completely covers up the ripping noise.  Just saying.

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Greetings & Salutations FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Fall trends that have been sashaying down runways from NYC to Milan include leather –  and LOTS of it – as exhibited by Veronica Beard’s Fall Collection (click the blue to see more), capes (how super hero-ish!) and florals (yup, even into fall).  So that means that clever fashion savvy shoppers now know what makes a smart buy!

Peek-a-Boo LuLu!

Lulu Lemon had an unfortunate yoga pant transparency issue earlier this week – and it has cost the company a bundle in stock value!  Lulu’s CEO, Christine Day told Bloomberg News that the only way to confirm the see-thru quality was for customers to bend over – the transparency issue was only when customers’ stretched in them.  Click the blue to go to lululemon.com.

Which makes reversecommuter point out the obvious – THEY ARE YOGA PANTS, THERE IS GOING TO BE ALOT OF STRETCHING!!!!!!  Unless of course the customer is wearing them all day long and not doing yoga -which is another travesty all together!

Q4 Earnings have started rolling in (reversecommuter LOVES this time of year!!) and the news is pretty good so far – NIKE, Tiffany’s, Hermes, Sak’s, The Gap have all reported an increase in earnings despite a difficult holiday period and wacky winter weather.

Enjoy the weekend – mix your patterns just for giggles and drink some champs too!

Happy First Friday of 2013!

The Gap has purchased Intermix for $130 MILLION!  Yes, The Gap. Yes, Intermix.  Seriously.

gap-logo

Intermix bagan in 1996 in Manhattan, and now has stores in 11 states, and one in Toronto, Canada.  Intermix carries fabulous gorgeous lines such as DVF, Chloe, Yigal Azrouël, Mulberry, Jimmy Choo, Stella McCartney, and Rag & Bone.  The Gap is worth $15 BILLION and looking to redefine itself.  reversecommuter says “BRILLIANT MOVE!”

tiffany3

Tiffany & Co. and Elsa Peretti are still in love, $47.3 MILLION kinda love.  The Italian designer and the blue box jeweler have extended their relationship with an extended deal. Elsa’s designs are responsible for 10% of Tiff’s annual sales.

Brown Santa!

Brown Santa!

Yesterday was a BIG day for Brown Santa (click here to read about my adoration of Brown Santa).  January 3rd is now known as “National Returns Day”.  UPS was expecting more than 500,000 returns to be picked up and processed yesterday, with an impressive 2 MILLION returns this week.  So much for regifting!

Have  a fashionable & fun weekend!

FNO SOHO

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

FNO SOHO, get ready….it’s a BLOCK PARTY! Woolite Washed & GQ for Nordstrom, just two of the SOHO popups and really well done.  Piperlime existed as a popup the last two years, but this year unveiled it’s permanent shop complete with Rachel Zoe in attendance!  (and no cameras allowed inside, boo).

Boutiques competed for shoppers’ attention offering cupcakes, DJ’s, beefy security detail and ropped off lines.  It was an absolute shopping festival!  Even NYC CityWorks was in the mood, setting up mobil water fountains in the oh-so alluring family sink format (yuck!), right outside Prada (is nothing sacred?!?!?!). Tiffany’s had THE most adorable ice cream cart serving up itty bitty white and tiffany-blue ice cream cones (delish by the by). Isabel Marant offered a prompt 6:15pm opening, complete with fabulous French cheese & honey crostini & champs, hurrah! Why oh why the eternal need for one goofball shot? And le piece de resistance, the Empire State Building’s lights went red for the night, to celebrate FNO!
