Tom (as I like to call him) explained the Men’s Winter 2014 Collection’s casual pieces as a reflection of his new lifestyle as doting daddy to his son, Jack.  Shearlings, cable knit  sweaters, pinwhale corduroys, high top sneakers (!!!!), trench coats, and all in rich colors including blackberry and ginger.

Tom (sigh) said that he needs clothing he can go to the park in.  HE IS JUST LIKE reversecommuter!!!!!!!  All consumed with the proper fashion wardrobe in which to hang in the burbs with his children.  Tom, call me, I can TOTALLY relate!  Let’s have a playdate!

pantone

Pantone has released the Spring color chart (actually it has been out for a bit but that Polar Vortex nearly pushed me over the edge so reversecommuter is just padding this post with warm colors!!!).

MBFW NYC has announced it’s lineup for February, and reversecommuter thinks rollerblades might be THE fashion statement of the shows.  Major designers have opted to present at off-site locations as opposed to the Lincoln Center tents.

Big Dogs such as Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, Diane von Furstenberg, Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs (is that not THE BEST PIC of him?!?!?), are all going off site which is SO exciting as to see what the venues will look like, and how creative architecture will influence these incredibly talented creative designers!

Not to mention the inevitable traffic woes to succumb to all the fashion crowd.  Buckle Up!

Enjoy the weekend – do something to thaw out…like strap on a pair of fantasmic heels and pop a bottle of champs!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

F-R-I-D-A-Y!!!!!!!!!!!!

H&M is going Big in the Big Apple.  Really Really BIG!  The Swedish retailer has announced plans for a new flagship, their biggest store in the world.  It will be a 57,000 square foot store!  5th and 48th will be transformed into H&M corner, the store will offer 6 floors of merchandise – that is a lot of shopping potential!  And this H&M will sell their home collection as well as clothing, (click the blue to peruse).

DVF has brought in a big gun!  Joel Horowitz (former Tommy Hilfiger business partner and CEO) as co-chairman of Diane von Furstenberg.  Industry insiders suspect that the reasoning behind this addition is that an IPO (Initial Public Offering) is in the future.  What this means is that DVF may become a publicly traded company – reversecommuter wonders if the ticker DVF is available?

Speaking of Diane von Furstenberg, her husband, UBER BUSINESS MOGUL Barry Diller’s former company, HSN (Home Shopping Network) is celebrating it’s 35th birthday.  HSN rakes in over $3 BILLION annually in sales – that is a lot of tv watching!!!

reversecommuter had the pleasure of working with HSN a few years ago and it is the most incredible operation.  Located in St. Petersburg, FLA, the compound resembles a Hollywood movie set and is unlike anything else.  Everyone gets around on go carts, there is product storage warehouses the size of condo buildings, and the level of professionalism was truly inspirational!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HSN!

Have a SENSATIONAL weekend!

Finance & Fashion Friday – on Saturday!

OOOOPS!  These long weekends can really confuse a girl!  I totally overlooked that yesterday was Friday, which is normally Finance & Fashion Fridays on reverse commuter.com.   So, let’s pretend it doesn’t matter just for today!

Glenn Murphy, CEO of Gap Inc. clocked in a modest $9.7 million compensation in 2011, a 63.3% jump from 2010 – that is what I call a STELLAR YEAR OF JEANS & T-SHIRT SALES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO J. Crew GO….the photography and bookings director of Harper’s Bazaar (love that mag) just jumped ship over to J. Crew as V.P. of Brand Design.  The building momentum of J. Crew makes me think this company is preparing to launch big things.  Bigger than their current coo of manufacturing their cashmere sweaters at the same plant as Loro Piana in Italy – which, by the by, is HUGE considering the cost of a J.Crew cashmere sweater is a fraction of a fraction of the cost of Loro cash-cash, (and let’s face it – it all comes from the same type of goat!!).

Tommy Hilfiger is inspiring!!!!!!  He started his business in High School, chipping in $150 with a friend of his to buy 20 pairs of bell-bottom jeans and selling them to schoolmates.  Last year Tommy Hilfiger Inc. had $5.6 BILLION in sales, world wide.  Obviously his line has expanded.  🙂

I love this quote of Tommy’s, in fact I have it on my desk –

“… fashion is fleeting and style is forever”
