France, Furniture & Fashion…Oh My!

A fashion event with bubbles, fab French furniture, gorgeous people, red carpets & a step and repeat, all in the ‘burbs?!?  Mais oui, s’il vous plait!

Armenian born, French Canadian raised, Boston based Vartan’s designs are predominantly body hugging jersey dresses, but his suiting is stunning!  There was a soft grey long blazer & cigarette pants, a royal blue sport jacket and pants, and a white suit that would have all been very happy in my wardrobe!

Fashion and Finance Friday!

Thank the heavens above, the week is done!  Now if only the deep freeze would thaw….

Ralphie has done it again!  Ralph Lauren unveiled the US Olympic Team uniforms yesterday and they are purdy!!!!!!!  (having said that, reversecommuter is still SO UBER OBSESSED with Austria’s Olympic Uniforms from Bogner – click here to salivate!)

This video from Ralph Lauren tells the story of a wool producer from an Oregan ranch that has been a family owned business for over 140 years.  It is a beautiful vignette and instills immediate patriotism!

In the video the narrator comments on the friendliness of the NYC Ralph Lauren design team.  reversecommuter had the pleasure of working with these designers a few years back and I can personally vouch for the warmth, design skills and energy offered from this fashion mammoth.

Ralph Lauren should be commended for their creativity, design and vision of delivering the athletes uniforms that are completely designed and produced in the USA.

Instagram as a science project?  Instagram has been helping a tech firm named Olapic and professors at the University of Wisconsin study marketing and the relationship between photos and online sales (file under SUPER cool!).  According to their findings the colors yellow and blue increase sale.  The filters available on Instagram and other photo apps influence emotional reaction to the pictures.

And here you thought your favorite filter option just made your skin glow a little more!  Olapic counts Steve Madden, Bumble and bumble, Gilt, Coach, NastyGal, Veuve Cliquot and Vineyard Vines as clients who turn to them to pull Instagram pics from users into marketing data and mine it to increase sales.

Fashion & Finance Friday!

The Olsen Twins, creators of that delicious line The Row, won the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year award (or would that be Designers of the Year?).  Either way, tremendous nod from the fashion world powers that be to the ridiculously creative twin set!  KUDDOS!

Gucci bought a horse!  Not just any horse – a horse with bananas pedigree and even offers Olympic competitor promise.  The stallion’s name was Vleut when purchased by the Italian house of gorgeousness, (for some reason I think Veuve Cliquot but that is another story).  Now the name is GUCCIO, named after Guccio Gucci the design house’s founder.

I was lucky enough to go to the Gucci pop-up museum (museo in Italian – bad pic, but can you tell how ridiculously happy I am to be there?), in Florence in November, and can attest to two facts, Gucci is a design house obsessed with horse bits, and Guccio Gucci was his real name!

Piper Jaffray held its 32nd annual Consumer Conference in NYC on June 6th, and three major retail powers, Nordstrom’s, Urban Outfitters and Abercrombie & Fitch were present. What is clear and present on these CFO’s and CEO’s minds is VERY interesting, namely the internet.  Nordstrom is a 110 year old company and had 10 million customer names that they could contact, up until last year.  That is when Nordstrom‘s bought Hautelook (an online invitation only pop-up sale sight), which brought Nordstrom an additional 4 million names.  Nordstrom, a 110 year old company.  Hautelook, a 5 year old company.  Impressively effective accumulation in just 5 years!  All three companies stated that the focus for growth was not strictly directed to bricks and mortar stores, but rather that internet sales figures drove most expansion decisions.

The relationship between Fashion and Finance keeps me riveted!
