Simkhai Spring 2018 NYFW & A Party Too!

Jonathan Simkhai presented his Spring 2018 Collection on Saturday at Skylight Clarkson Square in New York City, as part of NYFW.

Pastels, light breezy chambrays, lacework cascading through delicious black, cream and navy dresses – yup, that is still my fave color.  Rose jumpsuits, pinstripes and black strappy dresses, and a one sleeved ruffly top that I have actually dreamt about for the past two nights, it is just that perfect.

The Collection had a strong softness, a romantic element (the models hair and makeup was magical) that celebrated the strength of femininity.  Ruffles, diagonal cut skirts, lace and denim all combined for a show not to be missed.

Simkhai also collaborated with Reebok and brought back the Hi Top, originally sported by none other that Jane Fonda in her workout videos!

This time round the Reebok Hi Tops are catering to the Simkhai collection.  Lace, soft blue and rose colored complimenting the distressed denim and various other bananas-good pieces Simkhai sent down the runway.

  * Full disclosure, the runway was actually a square but the gorgeous clothes were still sent “down”. *

When I started reversecommuter I had two personal goals.  One was to go to NYFW.  Jonathan Simkhai has invited me three times (so far) and it means the world to me.  Undeniably I am a mad fan for his clothing, but what is truly incredible is the person he is, he is THE example of the getting what you deserve.

But wait, there’s more.  After the show, Jonathan Simkhai had an after party, held at Made Hotel.  An incredibly, appropriately gorgeous crowd complete with crazy beautiful djs, custom cocktails and a phenomenally powerful happy vibe.

But don’t take my word for it, read all about it in Vogue!

Simkhai & The Beach!

NYFW is in full swing and reversecommuter is at the beach.  Literally.

The timing of fashion week always baffles me.   The middle of the coldest winter month, which also coencided with my children’s school break.  How is this blogger supposed to sneak away to New York during THAT week?

Happily Vogue, Tim Blanks, Instagram and the Internet are all willing to work on my behalf (lol) and keep me posted while I focus on swim, sun, surf and all things beachy!

Jonathan Simkhai presented his Fall 2016 Collection yesterday and dare I say it was one of THE best presentations!

Jonathan has created a niche using geometric cuts and lace in his deliciously designed dresses and knits.  Fall 2016 continued this but in a more wearable way.  His dresses were less crop top more hot wives who lunch.  Wearable but with a major statement of style and strength.

Movement was everywhere in this collection, with fringe, tassels and unfinished ends that seemingly danced down the runway.

Furs, neutrals, knits, navy (don’t think I am not ABSOLUTELY buying this complete look!!!) and suiting cut to perfection.

Bustiers and slip dresses complemented with luxurious furs delivered fantasy level date night outfits.  His romantic sensibility met body conscious sex appeal in every piece, by adhering to the age old adage of keeping somethings left to the imagination.

Velvet Noir

Marc Jacobs forgot to invite me to Monday’s Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir mascara launch party in NYC.

Luckily for this blogger Sephora chose me to preview the new mascara before its official launch.  Thank you!

It is now available online, $26 and it can be yours – click here!
Cute packaging with stylish Marc Jacobs branding.  Easy application.  Definitely a lengthening and volumizing mascara.  Not to mention a really great price point.

One little drawback is how quickly the raccoon eyes started to form underneath my eyes. ¬†With so many mascaras on the market that are tried and trusted, not to mention the limited time a mom has to actually put on mascara let alone monitor for black smudges,¬†it’s a very good thing Marc has that clothing line too!

Happy to test drive some of the gorgeous Spring 2016 Collection…

Cold as a Witches What?!

Winter has officially arrived.  Coldest week of the year here in Boston right now.

Seriously, this blogger needs a palm tree.

There is a silver lining to this cold bleak grey week.  I blame German dockhands for my happy warmth.

Wellenstyn jackets were originally made out of sail cloth, a material strong enough to withstand wind, cold and damp. ¬†It’s like the shipyards of Hamburg are¬†sister ports with Boston. ¬†Brrrrrrrrrrr Frauline!

Glencheck, navy blue, camel, black, royal blue, metallic, grey, red, lime green, what’s your pleasure? ¬†Any choice will deliver delirious warmth, perfect for building snow forts or surviving snowball attacks!

Waist length, car coat or bomber?

Down, faux fur, three in one shell with a vest to wear once it all thaws out?

Done, done and done.  There is even room to dabble in the mens section if you want a different cut.  Or surprise your man with a crazy warm winter coat!

There are now four Wellenstyn stores in the US, one in California, one in New York City, and two outlets, one in Chicago and one in Wrentham, MA.  Jackets at the outlet run around $400-600, and worth every single penny when the temperature is zero Рnot including wind chill.  #hatewindchillmorethanbangs

All Wellenstyn jackets are either waterproof or water resistant – this is very good news for anyone who lives where “Nor’Easter” is part of the forecast! ¬†Plus each jacket style has its own adorable name. ¬†Obviously “darling” called to me.

“Schneeauber” means snow magic in German. ¬†reversecommuter thinks Wellenstyn may be a perfect synonym.

Back to the Future Jacket

Futuristic Metalics are changing outerwear.

Outerwear needs to be warm.  Obviously.  But why not add a little color, texture or shine?

adidas by Stella McCartney has a fun metallic crop jacket that is ridiculously warm and efficient as a wind breaker.  Safe to say my hair speaks to the wind factor.

The fact that it resembles the delorean silver car in Back to the Future is the perfect reason to profile it on Back to the Future Day!

Sleeveless Wonder!

Fall is one crazy season!

Jacket, no jacket, layers, stripping off the layers, OY!

Invest in a sleeveless vest.

Put a tank top underneath.  Pair it with a long sleeved t-shirt.  Add a thin cashmere layer. A tailored shirt works too.
Jeans, leggings, even a tailored knee length skirt works with this piece.  Add a pair of statement boots and vamanos mamacita!

Budget friendly options available if your name isn’t Amal Clooney or Gwyneth Paltrow.  Current faves include Trouv√® at Nordstroms for $78 and  ASOS for $72.

Bergdorfs Meets Lycra in the Burbs

Bergdorf’s in the burbs? ¬†Dare to dream!

Unknown-1

First thought that popped into my head when I experienced LEGIT activewear, an online and retail boutique in Wellesley, MA, a suburb just west of Boston.

reversecommuter has been upfront honest about my dislike of the unimaginative yoga pants suburban mom uniform.  Legit is here to change it up.

Owner Lisa Goldberg (warning, she will instantly seem like your super fab sophisticated city girlfriend) single handedly tracks down the most intriguing design lines that will shake the lulu lemons right out of their tree!

LEGIT activewear is like the legitimizer of workout clothing.  Designer clothing for actual workouts…it is like the directions on how to wear lycra are found right in the name of the store.  Take what you worked out in off after the activity, but feel free to wear the gorgeous jackets, outerwear, cashmere, etc all day long.

Tennis lines such as Monreal London and Adidas by Stella McCartney, brilliant colors and the necessary tennis white all included.

Banging out those pre-marathon miles just got a whole lot sexier.  Leggings from Lucas High, Michi, Charli Cohen with mesh, neon, ribbing, cutouts, seriously these are the clothes that make you jump out of bed and want to hit the pavement!

Spinning class outfits just got so real you are going to ask them to keep the lights on so your outfit gets appropriate admiration time. ¬†Snakeskin prints by Human Performance Engineering, and Ultracor’s Camo crops and leggings with a shock of brilliant yellow neon beg for a SoulCycle diva showdown extra long class!

Yoginis rejoice! ¬†More Spritual Gangster than you thought possible and Out Incorporated’s mesh side leggings will make the most stylish zen bendy in town!

Pheel blends lycra with metaliics to deliver a superhero feel to any workout, and let’s face it, carving out time to workout¬†is a superhero feat with our schedules ladies!

Cool down jackets and wraps from lines such as Nesh, Vimmia and Alala will make it imperative to run a couple of errands after your workout, too luxurious a statement not to make.

See you at the checkout line…or is that the now Chic-out line?

Brogue Nation

A Rogue Nation is defined as a renegade state.

Try to find a more renegade state than suburban moms! ¬†United in a lack of sleep, an overflow of mommy guilt, an excess of baby bragging capabilities (irregardless of the child’s age), and a daily challenge to find the¬†perfect uniform that works while running, chasing, laundry, cooking, cleaning, dodging body fluids and still managing to look hot. ¬†woah.¬†

Suburban moms, it is time to celebrate and WHOOP it up!  Brogues are THE shoe for Fall 2015.

Flat.  Leather. Comfortable. Stylish. Cute. Work with jeans, shorts, leather pants, skirts, whatever.  Dress them up or down.  Just wear them.

As an added bonus brogues allow you to wear those super duper silly adorable itty bitty no-see-um socks.  Seriously, the inventor of those babies needs to win some sort of serious award.

Classy Classic

Classic is in!

That is the message delivered in New York this week by a majority of the presenting designers.

Proenza Schouler rejigged the double breasted blazer, opening their show with a sleeveless jacket wrapped up in¬†a Pussy Galore meets the KFC Colonel’s skinny black bow tie. ¬†Nothing represents classic fashion more than black and white.

Michael Kors is THE gentleman of classic clothing.  His Spring 2016 Collection is clean, forever fashion that glided across the runway and made buyers, editors and fashion lovers drool! The simplest design with the cleanest of lines in the very best of fabrics and colors.

_KOR0409

Kors also brought out a bouquet of decadence in brocade floral pieces.  The richness in their design and material is beyond compare, and an investment in his clothing guarantees a healthy roi!

Budget wise Michael Kors also offers a lower priced line, Michael Michael Kors which is always influenced by his ready-to-wear designs.  So these fashions will easily translate into mall shopping!

NYFW a la ‘burbs

There was a pity party happening in the suburbs.
Fashion blogger and style editor couldn’t go to NYFW. Too many commitments in my other role as a mom.¬†
Luckily Vogue.com, instagram and the grooviest online fashion feeds allow me the super human combination¬†of being super mama and fashion obsessed blogger all in a day’s work!

Truly all my technological fashion feeds are in direct thanks to Christopher Bailey, the CEO and design director of Burberry.

3023587-poster-p-1-182-whats-next-for-burberry-christopher-bailey

Christopher changed fashion forever when he permitted a live feed of his fashion show in February 2010.  Before this landmark event fashion shows were strictly for buyers and editors and certainly NOT for suburban moms!

Burberry-Spring-Summer-2016-Lace-Dresses06

The greatest luxury is being able to watch live video feeds of the shows (hello phenomenal new playlists!!!), translate the fashions into suburban mom-speak and write posts for the blog, news sites and magazine, all while running the corporation of home, husband and children!

This was Alexander Wang’s gift to his New York audience, along with his return to street wear FIERCE collection, British rapper Lady Leshurr.

Seriously add it to your workout playlist NOW!

Other designers tapped it¬†back in the form of nineties artists, Willie Nelson and of course using¬†the appropriately titled “begging for threads” tee hee!

Tune in tomorrow for a posting dedicated to the simplicity of Spring 2016 Fashion.  Imagine that!
