Getting Public School’d

Public School was in Boston October 20th!  (Obviously I had to take a picture of the perfectly timed school bus sitting outside the W Hotel during the Public School party.)

The CFDA 2013 winning design duo extraordinaire, were at Saks Fifth Avenue for a q&a session, followed by a private party for Public School held at the  W.

The evening allowed Boston fashion fans to meet, ask questions, and even party late late late into the night with these incredibly talented and mad friendly designers.

Models rotated looks from the current and upcoming collections while the crowd posed, clinked glasses, danced and happily hung out with Dao Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne – or at least that is how reversecommuter did it!

The tartan biased cut skirt (think flannel tartan shirt tied sloppily at the waist and dangling down at various angles) was an absolute fave.  Public School’s current FW’16 collection offers this in a darker tartan, and the upcoming Spring ’17 collection it will be in black and white.

Nothing better than a skirt designed to work with boots and a t-shirt or elevated with ankle boots and a leather top.  The beauty of Public School’s designs is that they can absolutely be worn every single day in the ‘burbs.  Ironic that when the children go to school the moms can wear Public School!

Public School‘s Fall 2016 magenta biker jacket better be in Santa’s sack for this blogger, it is THAT good a statement piece.  This brilliant jacket will make any grey winter day seem a little blast of tropical happiness blew in!

Public School is also launching the  Fitbit Alta collection, offering two sleek and stylish  models that will make capturing those alluring 10,000 steps even more of an accomplishment – ever notice how obsessive a behavior that can be?!

reversecommuter has been a fan of this design duo for a while, the CFDA brought them to my attention, their designs have continued to capture my attention, and Maxwell Osborne’s Black Lives Matter letter to W Magazine fully delivered my loyalty.

ps my phone case is super cute (a Chanel perfume bottle shape with pink sparkles floating on the back – however my blurry pictures confirm it is infringing upon the camera lens – time to replace…

Jonathan Simkhai, Sigh……

This is truly where the magic happens!

It is no secret how much reversecommuter LOVES Jonathan Simkhai, designer and designs, since being introduced to him through W Boston and Louis Boston last spring.  Click here for a refresher.

Jonathan Simkhai designs clothing that is fun, fashion forward, wearable – as in everyday gorgeousness even when schlepping children around, running errands and any other daily operation that normally elicits groans!  His pieces are easily added to a basic wardrobe to create a polished, fashionable effect with very little energy.

His studio is in the CFDA Fashion Incubator Studios, from 2012-2014.

Guess who got to visit and take a few pics?

JS4

What a trip to go inside the studio, small and intense, and see the inner machinations of the line.  There was a huge Mac screen on a back table, swatches and rolls of fabric littered throughout, even an old school Butterick pattern book (loved seeing that, it was like a little peek into the creative process in the beginning of his career!).

They even showed me some of the Spring Collection and the knitwear is BEYOND!!!!!!!!!!  reversecommuter feels like a knitwit for not grabbing a certain skirt and white cropped sweater – might have to make a call later this morning….

Thirsty isn’t Stylish

What is fashionable about 1 in 9 people on this planet not having access to clean water?  Nothing.  What is stylish about carrying a 40 lb jerry can for over an hour to get clean water?  Absolutely nothing – trust me, those jerry cans are REALLY HEAVY!!!!!

This man is stylish.  Philanthropy is in always in fashion.  Scott Harrison, founder of charity:water which has raised over $100 MILLION in just seven years.  Fashionable is renting an old plane, getting tech GAZILLIONAIRES such as Melody McCloskey of StyleSeat, Ed Turner of Facebook,  Divyank Turakhia of media.net and Oliver Ripley of Black Ocean and getting them to pay to go to the unpaved mountain villages in Ethiopia to build wells.  Click the blue to read about this trip.

Fashionable is W Hotels hosting “Walk with Purpose” charity:water’s waterwalk – a runway of sorts where participants carry jerry cans (HEAVY jerry cans) down a runway to raise money for clean water.

W Boston hosted “Walk with Purpose” last night – what a PHENOM event!  The crowd was in full party mode with outfits ranging from bright sunny yellow dresses to suits to floral shorts to short sleeve plaids and even leather leggings.  Clearly Boston is not prepared to let go of summer quite yet!

This event was truly an eye opener to how heavy water is and how fashionable clean water is. The facial expression below is not an exaggeration!

Gorgeousness Abounds!

reversecommuter has never been much of a secret keeper…

dsc_01151

so it really should not come as much of a surprise that I HEART CFDA designer Jonathan Simkhai and his gorgeous designs too! (click here for a gentle reminder). I was lucky enough to meet him at a trunk show hosted by W Boston and LOUIS Boston (best store ever, truly). The owner and fashion clairvoyant extraordinaire, Debi Greenberg, was one of the original store’s to write an order with Jonathan. Thank You DG!

Fall 2013 does not change the level of love…

JS1

well maybe it has increased just a smidge!

JS2

Patterned grids of loveliness, sweaters offering contrasting classics, leather, quilted leather, leather & pony hair shirts (OHEMGEEEEE!), skirts that deliver fantasy waists, yellows and blues and blacks, dresses that ooze with the near impossible mix of sex appeal and class.

Runway Strut with Purpose!

reversecommuter is walking the runway…in bare feet and carrying jerry cans!

W Hotels/charity: water Luncheon at W New York - Times Square

Clearly this is not for Fashion Week – but it should be!  Wednesday August 21st at the W Boston is hosting “Walk with Purpose” to raise money for charity:water, a non-profit that provides drinking water to developing nations with 100% public donations.

W Hotels/charity: water Luncheon at W New York - Times Square

I read an article in the New York Times a few weeks ago that really peaked my curiosity.  It was about Scott Harrison, founder of charity:water, taking a bunch of actors, activist and techie ka-zillion-aires to Ethiopia on a water mission.  Click here to read the NY Times article that started my new obsession.  Scott was a nightclub promoter in NYC in an earlier life and can probably make water sexier than Evian!  Who else could hire an old plane and fill it up with the likes of Matt Mullenweg (hello co-founder of WordPress), Nathan Hubbard (ceo of Ticketmaster), Tony Hawk & Sophia Bush and set off to Ethiopia?  Imagine my surprise when I was invited to W Boston’s WaterWalk?!?!

11water2-articleInline

The W Global  Music Director, Michaelangelo L’Acqua will be spinning the WaterWalk – so you just know that SoundHound and Shazam apps will be VERY busy that night.  Dare to dream there will be a playlist provided!

He has had Jessica Biel, Sophia Bush, Jessica Alba, Seth Myers, and other Hollywooders strut their stuff on the Waterwalk, and now it is reversecommuter’s turn….

If you are near Boston and want to come support this phenomenal event, please rsvp to W Boston.

New Love!

It is such a very rare event to find a designer that creates clothing just for you.

DSC_0112

Every single item fits perfectly, would compliment your existing wardrobe, and offers something amazing and new, all at the same time!

DSC_0115

It is my pleasure to introduce you to NYC designer Jonathan Simkhai (click the blue to go directly to his website).

reversecommuter had the pleasure of hanging out with Jonathan Friday night at an event at the W Boston (more on that tomorrow), then again on Saturday at Louis Boston (click here to read more about Louis) for a trunk show.

DSC_0114

Jonathan is a member of the CFDA Fashion Incubator Program (click here to learn more), suffice it to say the CFDA has taken a considerable interest in the talents of Jonathan Simkhai…uh, get in line!!!!!

Leather softer than butter and lighter than cashmere (where did he find those skins??!) – reversecommuter tried on a white leather t-shirt that brought tears of joy to my eyes…and that is no exaggeration! Silk prints and solids that seemingly floated when I walked. Wide legged pants that somehow flattened the stomach area (what girl out there dislikes that concept?). Expertly tailored, clean cut lines, subtle details that make you NEED/WANT the clothing even more than you did on first sight.

DSC_0113

Jonathan chose this outfit for me – no exaggeration, I didn’t want to take it off! The silk wide legged pants are from Spring 2013 Collection, the PONY HAIR & LEATHER T-shirt (OHEMGEEEEEEE!) is part of the Fall 2013 Collection. RIDUNCULOUS! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
