Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) has been printing fashion news daily since 1905.  Until April 24, 2015 that is.  WWD has now morphed into a weekly publication that launched Wednesday April 29th.  To celebrate this HUGE publication, WWD Weekly dropped SIX different covers with some extremely fascinating fashion stars!

#WWDWeekly has caused quite the murmur amongst those in the fashion world who start each day with an expresso and a read of the daily.  Fret not Fashion Pets, there is a new digital daily edition that will be emailed to existing subscribers, and now there is yet another reason to celebrate Hump Day as that is when the weekly will come out!

Lucky Magazine (*full disclosure – reversecommuter is a contributor) has announced that their social media maven of an editor, Eva Chen, has announced she will be leaving the magazine.  There is also an unconfirmed rumor that the magazine will be going completely digital!

As a result of the editor and possibly editorial changes at Lucky Magazine, the upcoming May 7th Lucky FABB bloggers conference is postponed – bummer as reversecommuter had just booked a equally FAB hotel room at the W and was planning outfits…

File under Fun Fact:  Did you know that John Paul DeJoria (handsome dark haired owner of Paul Mitchell hair products) is also the owner of Patron Tequila?  His annual income of 2.8 BILLION is a testimony to an awe inspiring drive – he started Paul Mitchell with a $700 loan.

Unknown-5

reversecommuter not only loves the smell of Paul Mitchell’s awapuhi shampoo (seriously, give it a whiff) but I am officially obsessed with the work ethic of this man – I have a new hero!

Enjoy the weekend – slip those perfectly pedicured piggies into something open toed and raise your silver julep cup to all the drop-dead hats and outfits at the Kentucky Derby!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Sorry.  Late posting.  I blame the weather.

Jason Wu just presented a beyond-beautiful Spring 2015 Collection that was all about mules, navy blue *reversecommuter’s all-time-fave-color*, crisp whites, gorgeous tailored lines and rich suedes.

KIM_4874

Seemingly the perfect collection to launch on the day he announced he had sold a majority share to Interluxe.  CEO Gary Wasner has long been a Jason Wu fan, and the influx of cash will help him polish up his online business as well as build a flagship store.  Congratulations on a banner day!

NYFW is officially underway, which means reverse commuter is getting no sleep this weekend!

Better pop the champs, raise the flute and smile for everything that makes you look taller, thinner and more fashionable!

Beautiful Birkenstocks?

I just don’t know about Birkenstocks.  Lots of cool cats are sporting them this Spring…

Eva Chen is a big birk girl…

tumblr_msvh40TVcO1qgiquqo1_1280-1

and reversecommuter is not normally known for indecision regarding shoe purchases.  Seriously click here, here, here or here if you don’t believe me.

And as the only straight girl on the college field hockey team, I am not afraid of labels…especially when WWD is calling Birkenstocks “the brandof the year” – WOAH!

images

It’s just despite their sudden popularity, I can’t quite seem to wrap my head around owning a pair of Birkenstocks.   Never say never…Going to try some on today – but first I am shaving my legs.

Baked Goods, Goats and Coats!

Allow me to wax on about a lovely little bakery in a little suburb in Wellesley, Massachusetts.  It’s called SUSU and it is simply divine, with all of it’s cinnamon muffins, cupcake camps, cakes and cookies.  Oh, and it’s couture & cashmere trunk shows.  Insert “WHAT?” here.

DSC_0014

Yup, SUSU is hosting a trunk show 11/18 & 11/19 highlighting some exquisite talent in the area of CashCash (click the blue if you aren’t familiar with cash cash…), and couturier level clothing, with two designers with MAJOR designer pedigree.

DSC_0048

FJALL (Swedish for Mountain) is a cashmere line designed in Rhode Island, spun and created in Como, Italy (helllooooooo George Clooney!!).  The Como mill, land and goats have been owned by one family, for generations.  The designs include peplum waists, cableknit ponchos and cashmere sweatshirts (OH YEAH!!!!!!).  FJALL creator,  Lisa Kasabian, has also included her trade secret non-pilling process on each of these beauties…and yes, of course I tried to find out the specifics of the secret….no luck.

DSC_0021

Lisa worked for Ralph Lauren in knitwear design, and one look at these creations and instant luxe recognition occurs!

DSC_0024

ISOUDE is the creation of classically trained couturier Kate Brierley, formerly a designer with Ralph Rucci.  (Click the blue to visit the website, complete with online shopping!)

DSC_0043

Already written up in Vogue, WWD and Towne & Country (HELLO, THAT IS INCREDIBLE!!!), Kate is dedicated to creating pieces her clients can invest, collect and live in, “dressing up and being comfortable, with versatility with sophistication”.

DSC_0041

Kate believes that clothes need to be beautiful, not mass produced.  She believes that “the quality of a line by the inside of the garments”.  ISOUDE represents the “European mentality of owning a few great pieces, and wearing them out!”

SUSU is not just another pretty, flour-sprayed baking goddess, she also has phenomenal fashion friends!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

It may be freezing cold but it is still Friday!!!!!!!!!

The weird hook-ups in the fashion world keep on coming (click the blue to see others reversecommuter finds weird), this time it is Swatch buying Harry Winston.  In the name of all things sacred, sparkly and non-plastic can the madness not stop?!?!

Apparently the colorful, creatively designed plastic watch business is rather lucrative as Swatch has $1 BILLION to spend on Harry Winston.  Who Knew?!

The Pre-Fall Fashion Week has just closed in Paris.  Ever wonder why the designers present collections that have nothing to do with the calendar or even the weather?  Fashion Week shows presents collections 6 months early – enough time to wow the audience of magazine editors, bloggers (whoop whoop) and store buyers.  The editors, and bloggers write up the most popular or spectacular presentations while the buyers submit their orders.  This gives the fashion houses enough lead time for production.  That is why you can never find a bathing suit in the month of August in a store but you can find a gorgeous winter coat!

Burberry stock slid 21% in September when it projected a slow down in China luxury goods sales.  This week Burberry stood by it ‘s earlier comments but suggested there may be a positive change after the new political leadership of China is announced.  Apparently within the Chinese culture giving gifts is a big deal.  At the moment the list of people in power you would want to gift is unknown.  Analysts appreciated the potential silver lining and the stock came back up by 13%.  (click the blue for the full NYTimes article).

reversecommuter likes the leadership Burberry brings to the Fashion industry.  First company to present it’s fashion shows online, real time, (click the blue to read more) and now Burberry lead’s the charge in honest projections regarding China’s luxury retail numbers.

There is a poll online at WWD.com whereby you can cast your vote for Michelle Obama’s choice in dress for the President’s Inauguration Monday February 21st.

reversecommuter doesn’t have a clear favorite choice, however would not complain if the First Lady opted up from the infamous White House Black Market frock… just a fashion blogger’s opinion.

Wishing you a fashionably fabulous weekend!
