Fashion & Finance Friday!

Beach + Friday = PURE HAPPINESS!

That’ll learn him!  Chip Wilson – ousted founder and former CEO of lululemon just sold 20.1 shares to Advent International – the investment banker brought in by lulu’s board once they decided to throw Chippy out.

unknown-2

Remember when Chip told the bigger girls that lulu’s yoga pants were not meant for curvy body types on national tv?  BEST AWESOME CORPORATE F-UP EVER!!!!  (Click here for a reminder of the awesomeness!)

images-1

The board wanted Chip gone immediately after that, and so Chip agreed to sell 20.1 million shares yesterday and made $845 MILLION.  reversecommuter is quite sure Chippy learnt a valuable lesson here…

Luxury design houses are starting to report lower sales and earnings, based primarily on China not buying as much as was projected.

Diego+Della+Valle+Extreme+Beauty+Vogue+Milan+1keN-FyHJ2Bl

Tod’s just released a profit decline, citing China as well as two major US boutiques closing for renovations as the reason behind the lag.  CEO Diego Della Valle is optimistic that 2014 Fall Collection is strong enough to rally Tod’s clientele back into power shopping mode.

images

Note to Diego, the awesome car shoe and delicious Italian leather handbags are what makes Tod’s clients deliriously happy, and apparently Simon Doonan a little bit hungry!   Attempting to draw us in for a clothing line hasn’t accomplished the same pull.  Stick to what you know, let the profits grow (catchy huh?!).

Champs in a flute and the sun shining is reason enough to slap on the fancy shoes and wow the world with that outfit you secretly want/need to wear…Do It!

O.W.O. Sunset Edition

O.W.O. (one weekend outfit) is all about sunsets and rosè…and sweats.  Insert “HUH?” here.

IMG_2872 IMG_2873

It is in reference to the launch of net-a-porter‘s net-a-SPORTER, a dedicated portal for all things sporty, be it golf, tennis, running, yoga and even apres-les-sportifs!

net-a-sporter-launch-featured

reversecommuter has long been concerned about women trapped in the dreaded “I GAVE UP” yoga pant uniform.  Net-a-SPORTER is different.  It is a gorgeously selected group of designer pieces that make the sporty look look fab!  Designers include Laiin, Monreal London, Bodyism, Stella McCartney, Nike, Hey Jo etc.  Suffice it to say that the old fading yoga pants have had their day.

Unknown

Natalie Massenet and her troops can help clean up the world just a teeny tiny bit – in the same vein as reversecommuter aims to do on a daily basis – to remove one burnt out elastic yoga pant from one woman’s wardrobe.

Don’t you just love it when your wine matches the sunset?  😉

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Bring on the LOOOOOONG Choco-Bunny Weekend!

“It’s good to have goals.” – One of reversecommuter’s favorite mantras, and it appears the same can be said for The Gap Inc.  in regards to China.  Gap has 81 stores in China and is planning on adding 30 more shops this year.  Gap Inc. will probably consider introducing additional Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta stores into China in the next 2 years.

Unknown-4

The Gap wants to reach $1BILLION in sales in China by 2017.  How do you say “Khaki’s Everywhere” in Mandarin?

images-1

reversecommuter mini-rant (* DIRECT bi-product of being cooped inside since Sunday with sick stomach flu children – apologies!)

The world’s total clothing spenditure is $1.4 Trillion.  If Gap Inc. hits $1 Billion by 2017, reversecommuter shudders to think how very similar everyone’s outfits will be.  At the risk of ranting (on a Fashion & Finance Friday no less!), fashion is not about looking like everyone else, nor is it about mass producing inexpensive, poor quality clothing – that puts garment workers in developing countries at risk.

King Karl once again proves his regal worthiness.

Unknown-2

Despite the shared opinion of reversecommuter and Karl Lagerfeld (um, how much fun was that sentence to write?!?!?), it seems as though the fashion world’s love of all things workout-y is expanding.  How is it that the suburban masses of yoga pant uniformed housewives are influencing Paris, Milan, New York and London?!?!?!  net-a-porter is rumored to be expanding the website into workout wear, Tory Burch is about to launch her workout line, and Lululemon is about to launch their “&Go” line of everyday clothing.

reversecommuter mini-rant Part II (* DIRECT bi-product of being cooped inside since Sunday with sick stomach flu children – apologies!)

Tory Burch being “influenced” by recognizing a lot of women wear their gym clothes all day makes reversecommuter once again ask “how is she considered a leading designer in fashion?”.  And if designers waive the white flag and surrender their creativity based on the bored masses in their yoga pants and unkept ponytails, this era will be more horrific than the 80’s shoulder pad debacle.

Unknown-3

reversecommuter appreciates gorgeous, stylish workout clothing probably more than most, perfect example is this adidas by Stella McCartney top I just nabbed on net-a-porter.com, but I will be wearing it to work out in, and then I will shower, float around on my endorphin high and change into other clothes!

Easter Weekend is upon us, get ready for happy, giggly children, pastel outfits, chocolate bunnies, egg hunts, family time, sugar highs, and Easter bonnet parades (my absolute favorite Bill Cunningham spread in the New York Times Fashion section of all year!!!!).

Dress up, smile for all you have and add some champs to that glass of o.j. at Easter Brunch!

Abaya Babes

Visiting Dubai was truly the experience of a lifetime!

Dub5

Camel rides on the beach…

DSC_0058

Architecture that defies gravity and redefines structure…

Dub6

The Gold Souk – a gold market overflowing with all things 18 & 24K, intricately woven necklaces, rings, bracelets, and charms being hawked in fluorescent lit shops by deal promising Arabs…

Dub4

Visiting Dubai was also learning experience, one in culture and as a result I now have a new appreciation for the Abaya, the black cloak worn in public by Muslim women.

DSC_0019 2

Researching the cultural restrictions prior to leaving, reversecommuter was WORRIED about what part of my wardrobe I would actually be able to wear in Dubai (click here to revisit).  According to Muslim customs, Western women should have everything from the shoulders to the knees covered in public.   Uh…that eliminates my entire summer wardrobe.  Truly.

Dub1

Once I arrived in Dubai I noticed that Westerners were taking the dress code quite lightly.  As in Daisy Dukes, revealing sloppy tank tops and mini skirts galore.  All of a sudden the Abaya approach seemed to offer an element of class and grace. Prior to Dubai, the Abaya symbolized oppression and control to me. Dubai taught me that  it’s Abaya wearing women, who by the way compliment the black cloak with 6 inch towering Dior electric blue stiletto sandals, Chanel and Louis Vuitton handbags, expertly applied kohl pencil cats’ eyes, eyelash extensions and brilliantly painted talons, carried themselves with a quiet sophistication and femininity rarely delivered by the yoga pant uniform that has swept across the U.S.  Flashes of designer jeans and flowing wide leg linen pants peeked out of the abayas, gold belts synched the waists, and even the cloaks themselves were sometimes adorned with lace, Swarovski crystals and peekaboo organza patches.

Dub2

Poolside I was grateful for the Western summer uniform of a bikini, and the discomfort potential of a black cloak in 100+ degree desert heat is not something reversecommuter will be signing up for anytime soon, but thanks to Dubai’s Muslim women, I now have a new respect and appreciation for the Abaya adorned, with their grace, confidence and air of quiet superiority to the oafy daisy duked.

Cute Accoutrement!

Accoutrement – French for “additional items for dress”…like a fur scarf!

pradafauxfur25

Or a fab faux like this Rachel Zoe, on sale right now so click the blue!

Michael Kors brought it as one of his key looks for Pre-Fall 2014.  reversecommuter could / should / would absolutely live in this all day long!!

BCBG Max Azria scattered a couple of pelts around the neck too for Pre-Fall 2014.

reversecommuter is mildly obsessed with fur scarves.  Purple fox?  Check.

Mink?  Yup.  Sable?  Working on it….Valentine of mine, are you reading this?

KirnaZabete was rocking it last week when they were hanging with Prabal Gurung, pre-NYFW, pre-streaker (ugh).  Click here for more of that Fashion Week debacle (why is it always the peeps who shouldn’t overshare that do?!)

beth-sarah

Pause here for an Uber-cool reversecommuter moment – when I met KirnaZabete (Beth Puccini and Sarah Easely), I told them the goal of the blog was to get one woman in the ‘burbs out of yoga pants every single day – they LOVED it, and told me it was the same reason behind what they did.   Um….shivers!!!!!!!!

Fashion & Finance Friday!

Hello Gorgeous Sunny Friday!!!!

Calypso St. Bart’s has hired Mindy Meads as the new CEO, amongst rumbles that the company is looking at growing from its current 20 boutique size. Mindy was co-CEO at Aeropostale but left 3 years ago to consult.

reversecommuter always hits Calypso just before a beach vacation – they have cute coverups! It’ll be interesting to see what changes are coming….

Buh-Bye!!! Lulu Lemon has an new CEO and now it’s time to issue an Adios to the founder & outgoing, gaff blabbing CEO, Chip Wilson. Remember a couple of weeks ago Chipper announced on National television that “some women’s bodies don’t actually work” in Lulu’s yoga pants.

reversecommuter is still giggling over that one! So Awesome!!!!

Apologies that today’s posting is short but sweet – reversecommuter is en route to NYC with her daughter for a little fashion bonding!!

Raise a glass of champs and toast all the fabulous people in your world at some point this weekend!

Fashion and Finance Friday!

What is it about a Friday before a long weekend?!  YAY!

Unknown-1

Before I get to the F&F, I wanted to take a minute to say “Thank You” to reversecommuter followers – your support, comments, likes and tweets mean the world to me!  Please find me on Instagram (@reversecommuter) and on Twitter (@reversecommutr).

Unknown-2

File under the category of “He Said WHAT?!”  Chip Wilson, the man who founded Lulu Lemon, (and Canada’s 10th richest man interestingly enough), blamed curves and women who are not skinny for the see-thru quality of his yoga pants and also for the piling effect of said yoga pants.  Hey Chip, take a drive through the ‘burbs to realize you just insulted the majority of your clientele!

Chip lost reversecommuter 5 years ago when the New York Times exposed the Lulu Lemon “bamboo” pant as a complete hoax.    Click here to read more on that.

Oprah is a copycat!  reversecommuter LOVES SKIN (click here to begin to obsess about SKIN!!).  Now that Oprah has released her Favorite Things list for 2013, the 12th item listed is none other than loungewear from SKIN!  How cool is it to say “Told you so!” to Oprah!  🙂      Click the blue to read the list & start your holiday shopping!

Enjoy the weekend and take the time to raise a glass of champs to all the service men & women, past and present, who collectively make bravery fashionable!
